What the gurus are saying

This lightweight, non-sticky lotion appeals to all skin types, but it needs layering to stay hydrated through winter or after washing. Used alone, it provides instant hydration that fades within two hours; those seeking all-day wear or winter protection may want to layer it under or over another moisturizer.

"It promises to keep skin hydrated even after washing, that's a specific claim they are making. The lotion textured formula provides instant and all day hydration and strengthens the skin barrier after one application. I would say it does some of that, but it isn't enough to keep my skin hydrated after washing. It is very hydrating, it does leave skin feeling instantly hydrated and it does help the skin barrier after one application, but after you cleanse in the shower it cleanses off with you. There are a handful of moisturizers for the body that can do this, this one not enough for that. It's not enough on its own to provide all day hydration for the winter, but with another product under or over it definitely helps. When I apply it, it feels nice and super moisturized, but within 2 hours I can tell it's kind of dry. When I layer it, I don't have that problem."

"This is a new product from them, their natural moisturizing factors body lotion plus inulin, it's 11 bucks right now. The product is good but getting the pump open was even a challenge. It's a very nice body lotion with no scent to it, which makes it nice. It's got a lightweight texture to it, great for layering, or if you don't live somewhere that gets really cold, this is probably enough for most people. Feels very nice, great for your body. You can probably use it on your face too. It's got amino acids, sodium hyaluronic, several sugar-derived humectants as well as urea and inulin. The star ingredient is a polysaccharide found in the roots of several different plants and is used in skincare for its prebiotic activities."

"This actually makes my skin feel so soft, it's really moisturizing and it's not sticky or tacky, which is a great thing. But once it has absorbed, it just leaves this nice layer of moisture across the skin and I really love that. So I think this is going to be great for the winter months. I do use this occasionally on my hands as a hand cream, which is also fabulous. I think that a lot of you could probably benefit from this because I feel like it's great for all skin types."

NEW! THE ORDINARY BODY CARE LINE REVIEW - DARK SPOTS, ACNE, ANTI- AGING & MORE! | SINCERELY MISS ASH
"This lotion is extremely lightweight so if you're someone that likes those lightweight options and formulations that don't remain greasy and heavy and sticky on the skin then you're going to really like this. This is fragrance free. This is great for all skin types including sensitive skin. It contains amino acids and PCAs and these are humectants that hydrate the skin so they attract and hold on to moisture so you do get a little bit of that nice plumpness with the skin as well because of the amount of hydration that this provides. This also contains inulin as well as prebiotics so this can help with your skin's microbiome and it also keeps your skin's moisture barrier in check as well."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Urea

Urea both holds water in the skin and gently loosens dead surface cells. At higher strengths it has good evidence for very dry or thickened skin.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
