What the gurus are saying

Gurus are split on whether this product justifies The Ordinary's entry into cosmetics. Critics argue it's neither innovative nor affordable compared to existing alternatives, and that the brand abandoned its skincare strength to launch a basic clear mascara. Supporters find it performs well for those avoiding mascara, holding curl all day and offering a clean aesthetic, though removal can be sticky. The consensus gripe is that The Ordinary missed an opportunity to formulate this with lash-growth ingredients rather than deliver a straightforward finishing gel.

"I'm not the biggest fan of when brands step out of their niche and their category. The Ordinary do some great skincare, some of my favorite skincare products come from The Ordinary, and this I think is just too far removed from their standard offering. It left people a bit bemused as to what the point of it was. This sort of product already exists on the market. I don't think this is new, innovative or anything beyond what you already get. And so for me it's a bit of a pass. If The Ordinary were going to do this properly, they would have come out with a product that actually was packed full of beneficial skincare ingredients that were going to extend the lash growth cycle, that was going to increase volume and density. But what we've actually got is a bit of a finishing gel for your lashes and your brows. If you want that and you want to do it affordably, this is fine. But I think most of the fans of The Ordinary, myself included, looked at it and thought, 'Really? That's what we plowed all of our research and development into at the expense of other options that they could have developed.' I think brands are best when they just stick to their category. In the case of The Ordinary, that's skincare. This one just missed the mark a little bit."

THE ORDINARY - Reviewing All Their New Products (This Is Their Flop Era)
"This is The Ordinary Lash Curl Finisher. No, nobody needs this. Nobody wants this. It's designed to help with the hold of your lash, your mascara, your curl. Why are The Ordinary doing this? Nobody needed it. These products exist. Nobody needs this. This isn't particularly affordable compared to some of the competitors on the market. It's not actually well formulated. I thought maybe they do it with some beneficial lash enhancing skin care ingredients, in which case I'd be like, "Okay, I'm on board." No, no, no, no. This is just like a clear mascara to hold the curl that exists. I don't know why The Ordinary investing their money in this when they could stay in their lane and deliver quality."

"It just becomes kind of gluey and gummy on the lashes. You still get a beautiful effect. It's just more difficult to remove at the end of the day. But I've been reaching for this on weekends when I don't feel like wearing mascara. It's a really nice mascara replacement for those that don't enjoy mascara or you're going to be near water, you're going to be playing sports, you don't want to wear mascara, then this would be a great alternative. And it actually performs really well. I'm quite impressed with how long it stays on the lashes. It keeps that curl for the entire day and it looks very natural and gives that clean girl look."

"It took some time and I had to really work at those lashes and get that product off. It took a while to get it off. So now I just do one good coat and I don't have problems removing this at the end of the day. And I actually really like the way that it looks on the lashes as well. So it's not something that I use often, but it is a good one to use on weekends when I'm running errands and I don't feel like wearing makeup. And I think this will be great for the summer when you know you're going to be active, you're going to be near water, but you don't want to deal with raccoon eyes. But besides that, I feel like there are better products out there if you want something that is more of that conditioner and something to help grow the lashes. There are better options out there. But not bad for what the product is. I'm going to give this a 7 out of 10."

"I have a feeling this is just for people that don't want mascara, but they want a polished look. My eyelashes look fine after it. They're about the same as they were before I applied it, but they do have a little bit of a polished finish look to them. My eyelashes grow kind of clumpy sometimes. It feels nice. Very thick, very, very thick."
