What the gurus are saying

Gurus overwhelmingly champion this as a versatile, affordable exfoliant effective for face and body, addressing texture, keratosis pilaris, discoloration, and rough patches. The 7% strength is praised as potent enough to deliver results without excessive irritation, especially when buffered with the included soothing actives. Consistent themes: use 2–3 times weekly on clean, dry skin followed by moisturizer, spot-test first on sensitive areas, and avoid pairing directly with retinoids the same night. One dissenting note flags caution about combining it with retinoid treatments.

"I personally love the one from The Ordinary, their 7% glycolic acid, their exfoliating toner. When I initially started using this product, I would use it as a toner for my face to get rid of like dead skin cells. But this product is such a powerhouse, guys. And I don't think that I'll stop recommending it anytime soon. So I use this on my face sometimes and I remember like I told you guys already that I had bumps on my chest. I used this product and it got rid of all those bumps. Now one part of the body where I think that people have spoken about this before, but just in case you've not heard, this is a very good product to use on your immediate underarms because if you use deodorant and you're just very active, we tend to actually accumulate dead skin cells in that area."

"I like this glycolic acid because at least one it explicitly states just how much glycolic acid you actually get in this toner. Sometimes AHA serums don't tell you how much AHA you have in the toner. With this one it's just clear, they make it clear that it's 7%. I use this two to three times a week on my face. After I wipe my face, I like to take this and I run it all over my chest. It's actually working."

"This is the Ordinary's glycolic acid. I think this has 7% glycolic acid in it. And together with retinol, these two things have gotten rid of the texture for me. I hardly ever get closed comedones anymore."

Top 10 Drugstore Skincare Products for Mature Skin That Are Actually Worth Buying
"This is one of my favorite affordable ways to address cell turnover directly. Glycolic acid is one of the most effective AHAs for that. It has a really small molecular size, which means it's going to penetrate a little bit deeper. 7% is strong enough to deliver results without being overly aggressive. The Ordinary formula buffers the glycolic acid with that Tasmanian pepper berry derivative to reduce irritation and includes ginseng root and aloe vera for soothing support. One thing I love about this product is that it is so versatile. You can use this as your traditional toner, put on a cotton pad after cleansing. I would probably use this one or two nights a week max. You can also apply it to your neck, chest, back of your hands to help increase exfoliation. You can use as spot treatment for rough patches, for KP, for butt acne, rough heels, elbows. For the price, you get a lot of flexibility. With consistent use, it helps reveal smoother, brighter, and more refreshed looking skin over time."
10 Simple Skincare Hacks Backed by a Dermatologist | Dr. Aleksandra Brown
"My favorite product here in this category is definitely The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7%. It helps loosen that keratin buildup that contributes to keratosis pilaris. Also helps improve rough texture by increasing cell turnover. It's a super lightweight formula. I like to apply it to clean skin initially and then moisturizer on top. And you can apply it to your back, your arms, your legs really. You can even use it for stinky feet and you can use it on your face to help increase exfoliation. It's such a versatile product. The key ingredient in it is the 7% glycolic acid, the Tasmania pepper berry derivative and ginseng root and aloe vera which help kind of balance some of the irritation that you might get from the glycolic acid itself."
You Really Need a Toner? The Truth from a Dermatologist
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution is probably one of my most recommended skincare ingredients to date because it has so many different uses. It penetrates the skin for enhanced absorption of active ingredients in your routine. It can help fade discoloration, even out skin tone, even refine pores over time. I have showed the use of this product in things like dry feet, KP on the arms, on the scalp, body acne. The key ingredients are the glycolic acid, which is your alpha hydroxy acid that's going to help exfoliate the skin. Tasmanian pepper berry derivative to help reduce irritation associated with the acid use and jet root and aloe vera that offers both visible radiance and soothing benefits."
Why Your Nails Are Weak, Peeling, or Breaking | Dermatologist Explains
"I would probably recommend the Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7%. This is such a versatile product. It can help improve brittle nail or that rough nail texture when you're applying on the nail plate. When used on the nail, it can help smooth the surface irregularities, exfoliate gently that top layer of the dead keratin, which will in turn help increase penetration of your hydrating moisturizers. I wouldn't recommend this every day. This would be once in a while, maybe once every other week or maybe two, three times a month. You want to apply it sparingly to the nail plate and the cuticle around it. And always moisturize on top."
Milia: What Those White Bumps Really Are (And Why You Shouldn't Pop Them)
"My recommendation here is probably the glycolic acid from The Ordinary. It's 7% toning solution. I consider this one to be middle of the road. It's glycolic acid, which is kind of like medium potency alpha hydroxy acid, stronger exfoliation than lactic acid. So it's good for more texture concern, but it's not super strong like salicylic acid leave on that's going to irritate more sensitive skin. I recommend using this either with a cotton pad or just a little bit in your palms and applying it to the skin two to three times a week. Apply to clean, dry skin. Let it dry completely and apply moisturizer on top. The key ingredient is 7% glycolic acid, but it also contains the tasparian pepper berry derivative, which is going to help reduce some of the irritation associated with the acid use as well as the ginsen root and aloe vera to help minimize the irritation."

How to Repair Sun Damaged Skin | Dermatologist Tips for Dark Spots, Wrinkles & Uneven Tone
"My first recommendation is The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution. This one's so gentle, easy to use. It prepares the skin for enhanced absorption of active ingredients in your routine. It's ideal for alternating between retinoids. The AHAs will help increase cell turnover, so that will help fade discoloration, even out the skin tone, and refine pores over time. This one is not just for your face. You can use it for your dry feet, apply it right after shower and apply moisturizer on top. I love it for KP on the arms. I love it for scalp. I even love it for butt acne. You can apply this just about anywhere. You can use it under your arms to minimize body odor or to improve hyperpigmentation under your arms. The key thing with it is to make sure you test spot. Apply a small amount on your wrist or the inside of the upper arm. Let it sit for 12 to 24 hours. Make sure you don't have any irritation before you apply it to a larger area, especially before you apply it to your underarms, since the underarms are a very delicate area."
How a Dermatologist Transitions Her Skincare for Spring & Summer | Dr. Aleksandra Brown
"I purchased this myself, and it's lasting a long time. You can put this Ordinary anywhere you want to, just about on your body, like face, neck, chest, rough elbows, knees, feet, you name it. It fixes KP. If you don't have one of these in your home, just go ahead and get it. I like the glycolic from The Ordinary for the winter because it's a little bit more gentle. If you're beginner to exfoliating acids, always spot treat first before you apply it to a big area. In the summertime, I tend to bump it up a little bit. The exfoliating acids will help open up the pores and give me that nice glow."

"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution goes in place of the toner, so on an exfoliating night I use my exfoliating agent first then do my toner. It prepares the skin for enhanced absorption of active ingredients in your routine. It's ideal for alternating with retinoids on non-retinoid nights to balance the exfoliation and skin renewal. It will help fade discoloration, even out skin tone, and refine pores over time. The key ingredients are glycolic acid, which is an alpha hydroxy acid that will help exfoliate the skin, and it also contains Tasmania pepperberry derivative which will help reduce irritation associated with the use of the glycolic acid, as well as Jensen brot and aloe vera which both offer visible radiance and soothing benefits."

"Glycolic acid does an excellent job at exfoliating dead skin cells, unclogging hair follicles, smoothing rough texture. It also improves overall skin clarity and helps fade some of the redness from KP over time. If you maintain it, use it consistently, it works really well for stubborn KP on the arms, thighs, and buttocks. The key ingredient here is the glycolic acid and then Tasmanian pepper berry derivative, ginger root, and aloe vera."
My Skincare Routine as a Perimenopausal Dermatologist in Her 40s | Step-by-Step Guide
"I like The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7%. It's strong enough to get the job done, yet mild enough not to irritate my skin. This is perfect for face, neck, chest, arms, really the whole body. It works by removing dead layer of skin cells, helping brighten complexion, and can be used anywhere really on the body. It's really budget friendly. You can get a giant bottle for like 10, 11 bucks. I initially started using this on a cotton round, but honestly, you can just put some in your palm and then dab it on the areas of concern. I love it for my arms, legs, even abdomen. I applied after shower followed by moisturizer on top. It helps it seal that glycolic acid in so you wake up with really soft, smooth skin."

It's really ideal for alternating with retinoids on non-retinoid nights to balance the exfoliation and skin renewal. It will help fade discoloration, even out skin tone, and refine pores over time. I use it on my face, neck, and chest as an anti-aging product, probably once a week. I use it on the back of my hands for anti-aging. I use it for keratosis pilaris on the back of the arms, on top of the thighs to help smooth out the chicken skin or strawberry skin. I have used it on my scalp to help increase the cell turnover rate. I apply it to my scalp directly prior to getting in the shower for about 10 to 15 minutes and then wash it off. I also apply it after the shower to help with hyperpigmentation and dark marks from previous acne, and it helps with aging and smoothing the skin. The key ingredient here is the glycolic acid, which is an alphahydroxy acid that will help exfoliate the skin."
Dermatologist Skincare Swaps for Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
"If your skin is not too sensitive and you want to spice it up just a wee bit, but still be pregnancy safe, this is where I would use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7%. This is a little bit stronger than lactic acid, so it's better for more severe texture concerns. You can just put on a cotton pad after cleansing and use it maybe a couple times a week. It is like a completely runny essence. So you really want to apply it to clean, completely dry skin. It does contain aloe and gins that will help calm down and energize the skin. The key ingredients here are the 7% glycolic acid and Tasmanian pepper berry derivative which will help reduce irritation that can be associated with the glycolic acid. And it also has the ginseng root and aloe vera to help further calm down any irritation you may develop."

"Glycolic acid, and this is the GOAT, glycolic acid from The Ordinary, is really nice. Applying this at bedtime will also help exfoliate the top layer of the skin. Now be cautious if you have rosacea or sensitive skin, it may cause some irritation, so you can apply to a small patch on the jawline and just test it one night and see how you do with it before you apply it to your entire face. If you're really set out to do glycolic acid and it really irritates your skin, another way to approach it is to do short contact therapy, so instead of applying it to your entire face and sleeping with it, you can apply it, leave it on for a couple hours, and then wash it off. And you can increase the potency of this treatment by increasing contact time with the glycolic acid if you don't tolerate it."

Dermatologist Reacts to TikTok Skincare Trends!
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid has been all over the Internet and this trend makes me uncomfortable because I see a lot of patients trying to put different things in their armpit that is actually meant for the face. We shouldn't be putting glycolic acid in the delicate skin of the armpits, or what we call the axilla. The axillary skin is very different from the face. When I see videos where beauty influencers even dermatologists recommend glycolic acid for the armpits, I'm always cringing. I actually don't want my patients to do that because you're playing with fire here. What can potentially happen is that you get a contact dermatitis, whether allergic or irritant, most likely an irritant contact dermatitis, and you cause more inflammation leading to worsening of the hyperpigmentation, and your armpits could get worse. I like seeing a lot of other creators sharing their stories behind this, showing that their armpits did get worse with using glycolic acid, especially in skin of color."
The Top Three Skincare Mistakes You Are Making!
"With your glycolic acids, if you're using an exfoliant every day, that's a problem. You're not supposed to be exfoliating every day. I always say one to three times a week max for exfoliating. A lot of you are exfoliating very frequently, and we're not meant to be exfoliating with these chemical exfoliants so often. If you have an irritated face, use your cicaplast balm B5 and then just stick to one to three times a week of a chemical leave-on exfoliant."

If I Wanted Better Skin, This Is Exactly What I’d Do
"I always say it's too strong, can make you photosensitive, but they made a very gentle formulation meant for the face with vitamin C. Very lightweight and makes your skin so smooth afterwards. No fragrance, fast absorbing, and not irritating so far. I treat it like a leave-on exfoliant. This polishes the skin and give you that extra glassy glowy look."
Online Skincare Advice I Don't Agree With
"I use the ordinary glycolic acid about two to three times a week to get rid of dark spots as well and then also to get rid of odor. I know this is a real concern, but I am very very concerned by putting an exfoliant, a leave-on exfoliant on such a delicate area. The axillary skin is very different from our facial skin. And so when the ordinary has come out with the glycolic acid toner that's meant for the face the armpit we have this fold here in dermatology we call that under occlusion. When you have say saran wrap over our topical steroids or topical medications that's under occlusion and it makes the topical medication more potent and more effective even now when it comes to the very delicate skin of the armpits and you have a fold that will occlude the medication and really push it in further into the skin you're running into trouble. And so I've been seeing patients with hyperpigmentation, contact dermatitis, really irritating rashes there that can leave a permanent hyperpigmented patch or scar essentially in the area. So be very very careful."
Secret Tips For Smoothing Textured Skin from a Dermatologist!
"The glycolic acid toner by The Ordinary, I actually use that every once in a while because it's gone viral and I actually like that product. If you wanted to use that to help further work on your pores, that's fine to do, but I wouldn't say to do that every day and I would not do the leave-on exfoliant the same day as a retinoid."
Overhyped Skincare Ingredients for Collagen Boosting- Dermatologist Reviews
"The glycolic acid toner is actually pretty good. It's very nice and gentle exfoliating toner that some creators are recommending for the scalp for exfoliation or armpits. I have concerns with the armpit area. The armpit area or the axilla, that skin is very delicate and more fragile than the facial skin. And so if you apply your glycolic acid toner there to work on hyperpigmentation, which is very normal, guys, and skin of color especially, you can have darkened skin there. But what we don't want is to cause inflammation, irritate the skin there, which will lead to more hyperpigmentation. And I've seen patients do that. They've applied glycolic acid toner and because it's in an area of occlusion where you have a fold and two skin surfaces coming together you actually can push the medicine in further. Don't do that in the armpits. Now for the face, can glycolic acid boost collagen? I'd say maybe theoretically yes. We can have increased cell turnover through exfoliation and you can have some micro trauma to the skin in higher concentrations."

"I was using the Ordinary 7% glycolic acid liquid, very affordable, big bottle, great for body application. I had been using it for a while, liking the results of that one. And then this one came along and I was like, okay, 7% glycolic acid, that actually is exactly what I'm using right now and it's working perfectly for me. So it's a nice switch over to this one. I love the packaging, loved the application. This does have that pretty characteristic glycolic acid smell."

11/10 ⭐ Skincare Empties I Recommend!
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner is so unassuming but wow, the hydration of this is so long lasting. There's an ingredient in here that actually is touted for its ability to help hydration last a long time deep within the skin and that's the secret to this. It seems non-impressive, just basic, but there's really something special about this. I'm giving this a 10 out of 10. The glycolic acid at 7% is not a lot but it's not a little either, I feel like it's a real sweet spot with glycolic acid. It's enough to give you a good robust result without breaking your skin barrier. I really like the multi-use of this too. It's a giant bottle you could use this for body care and it doesn't break the bank. I've been using this on my back and arms for congestion and to brighten and even out the tone of my skin, which has been really uneven and dull, and it works right."

And you can use this on your whole body as well. Like sometimes I'll use it on your elbows, you know, various places."

"This is The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% exfoliating toner. I don't use this on the face. It would my skin would scream if I used 7% glycolic acid on my face. I use this on the scalp couple of times a week. I just put this through the scalp. It helps prevent buildup. It gets rid of some of those flakes and my scalp feels fresher and yeah, it just works really, really well. You can use it under the arms as an alternative to deodorant because the pH of this will suppress scent causing bacteria. So, it works great for that. You can use it on the feet if you want to smooth everything out. I wouldn't personally advise using this on the face, but everywhere else it's all good. And if you want to use it on the hair, put it through. It comes with this nozzle applicator, which is really easy. Put it through, leave it on for 2 minutes, then go into the shower, rinse it off, go about your usual routine. It genuinely works."

Skincare Brands Are In Trouble - THE END FOR EXFOLIATION?
"Looking at The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, at one point this was called The Daily Toning Solution, which implied that you need to use it every single day. That was never a good idea. I think brands like The Ordinary have realized that and actually changed their packaging to encourage people to use it less frequently to make sure that they're getting the best results from the product."
My MORNING SKINCARE ROUTINE At 40 - Better Than Botox
"I would never use this on the face it's too strong but I put a little bit on the arms every single day and I find honestly it's the best deodorant around. This actually reduces the pH of the underarm to a more acidic pH which means that any bacteria which could be causing a lack of freshness during the day can't multiply and so actually it's a super effective deodorant. Also really helps if you've got any discoloration under the arms this will exfoliate it away. I wouldn't necessarily use it on the face but as a deodorant actually works really really well. If you haven't tried it already, providing you don't have sensitive underarms, this could be a really great option."

"Glycolic acid is part of that group of ingredients that can boost collagen, but you generally will need to use it in a 7 to 10% concentration or higher in a pH that's below three. That's going to be quite intense for a lot of people. If you have a resilient skin type, then you could go for The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7%. This would be a good option, but a lot of people can't actually tolerate that daily, which is when you have to use it in order to get the best results for pro collagen benefits. So, I personally would stick to using acids as exfoliators, not as collagen boosters."

THE ORDINARY SALE - Top 10 The Ordinary Products
"I think my problem with this is it used to have daily in the title and The Ordinary encouraging people to use this every single day and we were over exfoliating stripping our skin barrier. Now they've kind of rebranded it to say actually this is an exfoliating toner to be used infrequently for the best results. I'm okay with that. I actually think this is now a well marketed and thought through product. However, I actually don't use this on the face. I use it under the arms. This is the best deodorant you're going to find and it actually reduces the pH of the skin under the arms, which means that potentially unpleasant scent causing bacteria can't multiply and so it'll just keep you fresh all day long. It's also great for exfoliating the underarm, so if you're someone that has some underarm discoloration, this will really help. I put a little of this just on my pan, pop it under after the shower every morning, fresh all day long. Yes, you can use it on the face, on the body, but for me I buy a couple of these just to use as a deodorant. Genuinely keeps me fresh and I just really really like it."
Forgotten SKINCARE FAVOURITES - The Best Skincare Hidden Gems
"I used to overuse it, so I used it every single day and found that it destroyed my skin barrier. I then decided that the product was at fault and I stopped using it. I then took a second look and thought maybe I was just overusing it, maybe it was me, and it turns out it was. I was just using it too frequently. I've now learned that when it comes to exfoliation, a couple of times a week is all you need. This is the kind of product you want to use a couple of times a week and it's really really good now. I don't use this on my face, I use this on the scalp where a couple of times a week it helps to just remove any flakes, remove any product buildup, refresh the scalp. Works so well. I also use it under the arm as a deodorant because this has a low pH so it actually disrupts the scent causing bacteria under the arms, keeps you fresh all day long, and has the added benefit of helping with any underarm discoloration if you have it."
Perfect THE ORDINARY SKINCARE ROUTINE - Anti Aging On A Budget
"This is phenomenal because it lowers the pH of the skin, which means that offensive scent-causing bacteria can't multiply under the arms, so nothing smells fresh all day long. It works so well, and if you get any underarm discoloration, this is also great because it'll just even that out. It works for everyone if you got super sensitive underarms, maybe not, maybe give this a pass, but for everyone else it is great and a real great natural deodorant that doesn't break the bank and will exfoliate at the same time. It's just so so good."
EXCLUSIVE: The Ordinary Sale 2023 - What Im Buying
"A lot of people will automatically reach for The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, which is the most popular of their exfoliators. I think this is too high strength for the face, but I will put another one on order because I like to use this under the arms. If you have underarm discoloration, this is a great option, but it's also an effective deodorant. This will actually lower the pH of the underarm area, which means the bacteria causing odor can't multiply. You can also use it on the scalp if you want to strip some of the buildup there or help with any dandruff that you might have. This is a great product, but I personally wouldn't use it on the face. I think it's too strong, but on the body, under the arm, the scalp, it's a great all-rounder."

Proven to BOOST COLLAGEN - Best Ever Anti Aging Skincare
"Glycolic acid has so many amazing benefits. It strips away that top layer of dead skin cells, revealing a more vibrant complexion underneath. It can fade hyperpigmentation. It can smooth the surface of the skin. If used correctly, glycolic acid can boost collagen too. You can use it alongside all your other pro collagen ingredients just to add a little extra benefit from your routine. A couple of times a week it can be supplementary in terms of increasing that collagen production. The pH is key. All the studies which have shown that glycolic acid is great at boosting collagen have tested it at a pH of four or below. In order to harness the power of glycolic acid and get the very best when it comes to collagen production, you need a product with a pH of four or less. The Ordinary one is 3.6. They fit nicely with that."
SKINCARE GRAVEYARD - Skincare I No Longer Use (And Why)
"I think on the face it's just a little bit too strong, particularly the way that The Ordinary advertises it as a daily treatment. Use a seven percent glycolic acid every day and honestly I think over time you'll just build up sensitivity and irritation. For me though, I switched about 12 months ago from glycolic acid to lactic acid specifically, and I've never looked back. I feel like my glow game is on point, my skin is smoother than it's ever been, and I have far less hyperpigmentation than when I was reaching for this. I think sometimes we all got hit up on using the highest potency actives, the strongest concentrations we could find, which is why a lot of us reach for this, but actually dialing it back for a more gentle exfoliator like lactic acid in the long term I think just pays off."

"We used to exfoliate every single day with products like the glycolic acid from The Ordinary, and that's just too much. I've got the best glow enhancer results by using my exfoliators less frequently."
Biggest GLYCOLIC ACID Mistakes - How To Use Glycolic Acid Correctly
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution used to be an international best seller. However things seem to have shifted in the last 12 months and glycolic acid has entered its cancelled era. People online are actively discouraging people from reaching for glycolic acid and you hear an awful lot of scare stories about how people have really damaged their skin by using this exfoliating ingredient."
Biggest GLYCOLIC ACID Mistakes - How To Use Glycolic Acid Correctly
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% strength is perfect for the body, sort of neck downwards, and this will just speed up the results you're going to see and hopefully because the skin on our body is a little bit more resilient, it shouldn't lead to any increase in sensitivity and irritation."
COLLAGEN DOESNT WORK - 4 Skincare Ingredients For Firmer Skin ( How To Boost Collagen )
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution has that right dose of glycolic acid in the right pH. It's around 8% that these studies show to be just as effective as 20%, and the pH on here is 3.6, which give or take is around that 4 that you need. Super affordable, super effective. Bear in mind don't use this daily. Glycolic acid will boost the levels of collagen in the skin if just used a couple of times a week. Don't overdo it because you don't want to stress the skin out. Use this once, maybe twice a week, and you're going to get a great boost to those collagen levels. A 7% glycolic acid is still pretty strong and that's not going to be for everyone's skin, especially if you have sensitive skin."
The End Of GLYCOLIC ACID - Lets Talk
"When it comes to glycolic acid, hands down the best seller is this: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Exfoliating Toner. Glycolic acid has a much smaller molecular size than a lot of other exfoliators, and that matters because it can actually get into the skin and do a lot more when it comes to its mechanism of action. Because of its small molecular size, it means it just packs a big punch. That said, a lot of people can actually experience sensitivity, redness, and irritation."
Affordable Skincare THAT ACTUALLY WORKS - Budget Skincare Awards 🏆
"This is The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution, it's now called The Ordinary Exfoliating Toner, same formula they just changed the wording. This is amazing. For literally £8 you can get so much benefit across the whole body. You can use it on the feet three or four times a week, put a moisturizer on top, sandal ready in no time. On the scalp, put a little of this through the scalp twice a week and this will help prevent buildup of product, dandruff, and those flakes, leave it on for like 10 minutes then shampoo it out and you will notice such a difference. On the lips you do something called lip basing, where you put a little of this on the lips then put a rich emollient lip balm over the top of it, you'll wake up with the softest lips of your dreams. Personally I think this is a little bit too strong to use on the face, but if you've got a resilient skin type with no sensitivity this could work. You can use it on the dry elbows, knees, get your body summer ready with this. Some people use it under the arms to take away underarm discoloration and it also suppresses scent causing bacteria, so it's also a great deodorant option. For under £10 you can have like six or seven skincare uses from it and I absolutely love it."
THE ORDINARY 2024 - My Top 10 Serums
"It's a great exfoliator, particularly if you've got resilient skin. You can put it on the scalp once a week to keep it fresh and manage dandruff. You can use it under the arms as a deodorant, which works really well because it's got a low pH so it actually reduces the pH under the arms, which means any of the odor-causing bacteria can't proliferate. It works as a deodorant and keeps you fresh. If you've got underarm discoloration or hyperpigmentation, this works really well too. It's a great flexible product. You can put some of this on the feet, put a sock on, and you get the softest skin in the world. It's a great affordable multi-purpose product."

"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% is basically the exfoliation that quickly takes off the top layer of skin. However, 7% is quite high for skin of color and for glycolic acid specifically, I would recommend 5% or less. I just wouldn't recommend this particular product for pigmentation. Even 1% reactions is too high when you're talking about hundreds of thousands of people. I would say no to this particular product. If you find a glycolic acid at 5% or less, I'm more likely to say yes. But there honestly are better exfoliators for skin of color than glycolic acid."

"With this there are no other tyrosinase inhibitors, this is a pure exfoliator and the way an exfoliator works is it just removes a top layer of dead skin cells, nothing else. There's nothing really to penetrate to help calm down the hyperactive melanin. So yes, you will get some temporary brightening with any form of exfoliation, but it is temporary. The other thing is glycolic acid is my least favorite exfoliation out of all the acids because it can burn skin of color, lead to hot spots and hyperpigmentation just because the molecular weight is so small. For us, please go for lactic acid or mandelic acid."

"I love glycolic acid it not only does a good job at loosening that dead skin cell layer but it also makes your skin softer and it can be very hydrating to the skin actually believe it or not and it contributes to building new collagen so this is a great budget pick for a glycolic acid. Once a week in your routine I just take a little bit of this put it on a cotton round and then a quick swipe over the entire skin surface very gently. I cannot stress enough to be gentle with the actual application of this you're not scrubbing you're not using this as like a buff pad to scrub that skin layer off you're going to let the acid do its job and just very gently a gentle swipe over the skin."

It is also under $10 right now, I think you can get it for $8.70, which is an amazing price for a skincare product. It has 7% glycolic acid in it. It's really nice to apply to the skin at least once a week. I like that one better for anti-aging and skin barrier repair routines because the higher percentage of glycolic acid can be more irritating the higher you go, and I prefer it over other glycolic toning products that have additional ingredients like witch hazel that could be more stripping."

You can level up to 7 percent, and then 8 percent, which you get in The Ordinary and Minimalist. The results make your skin feel smooth and beautiful, which makes you want to use it again, but be careful not to overuse it. Even though it feels amazing and makes your skin shine, using it more frequently than recommended can cause redness, irritation, and flaking. "You can use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid. The reason I mention The Ordinary Glycolic Acid is because it has been tested. Its pH is correct. It's been tested for the scalp. That's what the brand told me themselves. Otherwise you can do what you want. But exfoliate your scalp at least once a week. If you have a lot of dandruff then please exfoliate twice a week. But scalp exfoliation is critical. If your follicles are clogged then some of them won't grow and also the hair that exists will break. If your scalp is clean and you're doing all the things right, from each follicle you'll get multiple hairs. And that is going to give you increased hair density."

"Glycolic acid tends to be very irritating under the arms. It's an exfoliant depending on how the product is formulated. Alpha hydroxy acids can cause a lot of underarm irritation. So, I don't suggest doing that. A lot of people use this on their scalp too for scalp buildup or for dandruff control. But salicylic acid is so much better because it actually localizes in the sebaceous gland and really thrives in the oily rich environment of your scalp. Glycolic acid can exfoliate away the flakes and help with moisture retention, but salicylic acid really shines up there. It just seems silly to use a facial exfoliant on your scalp with an ingredient that is just not like the most robust for dandruff and scalp care needs."

"I've seen people wanting to use that as a deodorant and it's just not a good idea because first of all the mechanism really isn't there. In theory it may help normalize skin pH by lowering it a bit and that could help cut down on the burden of certain bacteria, but in the long run it's not really going to do that because glycolic acid can cause a lot of skin irritation under the arms because of the combination of sweat and occlusion, and ultimately that's going to disrupt the barrier even further and lead to more bacteria and disruption of the microbiome that ultimately causes body odor."
The TRUTH About UNDERARM LIGHTENING
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid toner specifically is a product that is meant for the face, so you can run into issues using it under the arms where you have skin on skin contact, you have sweat, enhanced penetration. Glycolic acid even on the face can be pretty irritating, but under the arms it's a lot more likely to cause irritation. Also, the majority of these conditions that cause discoloration, glycolic acid is not even going to touch it, it's not going to address the problem, and in many cases it can actually make the problem much worse."

Glycolic acid even on the face can be pretty irritating, but under the arms it's a lot more likely to cause irritation because of skin on skin contact, moisture, and sweat. That irritation ultimately can really worsen the hyperpigmentation. It doesn't make this a great option for everyone, and I have my concerns."

SALICYLIC ACID VS GLYCOLIC ACID | Which one should you use?
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution is a seven percent glycolic acid with a pH of 3.6, which is close to the pKa. That tells me that this is something that is going to be formulated in such a way to actually be exfoliating. The performance of glycolic acid in terms of exfoliating is influenced by the pH of the product, which plays into what's called the free acid value. Other products may be less likely to have a free acid value that really gets the same level of exfoliation. Not to say that those products aren't effective, but they may be better at hydrating the skin up front and over time more slowly leading to results in terms of exfoliating."
SALICYLIC ACID VS GLYCOLIC ACID | Which one should you use?
"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution is popular right now, especially for people using it as an underarm deodorant or to improve underarm discoloration, but I don't recommend that. That's not how that product is intended to be used. Its pH, which they conveniently disclosed for you, suggests to me that it is likely more on the robust end of exfoliating, which can cause a lot of irritation under the arm. It's not intended to be used there for a reason, it can be too irritating."
How To Get Rid Of Intertrigo FAST | Dermatologist Tips
"I keep seeing over and over again blanket advice on social media to use The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution specifically under the arms. I caution not to do that because it can lead to intertrigo. Be careful there. It's not meant to go in the skin folds per se. It's just gained popularity and sure people who promote it and rave about it, they probably did just fine with it, but be cautious because things like hydroxy acids can be super irritating when you have trapping of sweat, friction, moisture, especially if you live somewhere super hot and humid."

"Consider adding some glycolic acid into your nail care. Glycolic acid being a chemical exfoliant helps to facilitate that kind of turnover of skin and glycolic acid is a great humectant to help hydrate. Studies have actually shown that higher strength glycolic acid peels can help to rejuvenate dry and brittle nails and even improve and thicken nails that are caused by medical conditions like psoriasis. Aside from it being a humectant and improving turnover, it also may facilitate the penetration of other moisturizers and other ingredients that you would put on your nails after, and overall just enhancing that nail rejuvenation process. The Ordinary 7% Glycolic Acid Toning Solution | Dermatologist's take on Glycolic Acid Skincare Hacks
"It's certainly a good product for its price and for the formula. It's super affordable at $13 for an 8 oz bottle which I actually think can last you quite a bit of time because in general we do not recommend using an exfoliant on a daily regular basis unless that's the only thing you're using in your routine. It contains 7% glycolic acid and that's the only chemical exfoliant in this product, and 7% is a good concentration. It's not super low where it's only acting as a thin, usually those are like 2 to 4%, but is still effective but not super high where it's going to cause significant irritation in most skin types. It's going to help improve skin texture, skin tone, hyperpigmentation, dullness, dead skin buildup, dry flaky skin, and certainly over time may help to refine your fine lines and wrinkles. It's a solution so usually used like a toner after cleansing, can be applied with a cotton pad or just with your bare hands. Overall it is fairly lightweight, absorbs quickly with minimal residue, although some people have reported it can leave a little slight filmy feel afterwards."

"Those higher concentrations like 7% 10% toners, depending on the location, you have to use with caution. I treat them like retinoids where low and slow, you start off like maybe only once or twice a week and gradually increase as tolerated. And honestly, for most people, if you are using the Ordinary toner or something higher concentration, at most probably two to three times a week is all you should be using anyway."

"I really love this product because number one it contains 7% glycolic acid at a pH that we know is effective at removing dullness helping over time with improving uneven skin texture and skin tone. 7% glycolic acid also is a good concentration, lower enough that it actually can act as a humectant to help hydrate the skin as well. This is definitely more suitable for those that have more normal skin, combination skin, even oily skin, and for those with more dry and sensitive skin I think it's suitable but you probably want to test it out first or limit the use. Certainly not something that you probably could use as readily as lactic acid, just because in general glycolic acid is a little more irritating compared to lactic acid for those with sensitive skin."

"Use it three times a week max if you have drier skin, one to two times a week max, and if you have sensitive skin whether it's dry or oily, tread very lightly. You want to be very carefully, maybe put your moisturizer on first and then put one of these toners on and then put a little moisturizer on again, but be careful. People love this glycolic acid toner as their chemical exfoliant. People are also using it underneath their arms to control odor. Just be mindful that overexfoliating can lead to an impaired skin barrier, and an impaired skin barrier cannot protect you the way that it should. You can become more susceptible to irritation that could lead to things like hyperpigmentation or worse. So don't say I didn't warn you. That's not to say that you can't use it at all, just be mindful."

It's good for patients that maybe are lighter skin types that want that little bit more of a cleanse. "I sometimes feel like you don't need toners because things like AHA, BHA, peeling solutions, chemical exfoliants are going to be a lot more effective and I feel like toners sometimes increase sensitivity. For skin types like mine, glycolic acid can actually cause more pigmentation if you get irritation. The Glycolic Acid 7% from The Ordinary does have essential flower extracts in there which can also increase sensitivity, so if you've got sensitive skin and you've got pigmentation, maybe you don't want to be using that glycolic acid toner as a second step. You just need to use a cleanser and you should be absolutely fine."
Do You Really Need a Toner? Choosing the Right One for Your Skin!
"The Ordinary 7% glycolic acid toner is really popular on social media. It claims that it doesn't have any fragrances in there or anything that harms the skin. It's good for patients that maybe are lighter skin types that want that little bit more of a cleanse. I know that skincare by hm has really discounted this product mainly because of the Rosa damasa within there, which is a fragrant essential oil. It's a little bit higher up on the ingredients list but not many patients would report a lot of sensitivity with it. But again, if you do have rosacea and you do have sensitive skin, you don't want to be using glycolic acid anyway."

"This Ordinary Glycolic Acid solution is a really great product, it's incredibly affordable, it's a good concentration of glycolic acid to accomplish quite a few things. That being said, keratosis pilaris is 50% of the time associated with eczema-like conditions, so dry skin, sensitive skin, irritated skin, and glycolic acid, especially at that pH that you find in that formula, is going to really irritate the skin barrier in somebody who has keratosis pilaris, especially when overlapped with something like eczema. The glycolic acid does exfoliate and it can be helpful for textured skin, so it could be helpful for KP if you are someone who has eczema, which will be a lot of people who have KP, then this might not be the best ingredient for you, or this might not simply be the best product for you. There are other glycolic acid products that either have a lower concentration or a more moisturizing base that might be a better option for sensitive skin."

"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid, which is the exfoliant that's often talked about, would require between 500 to 600 mL of water to change the pH. You're not going to have 500 mL of water even 100 milliliters of water resting on your face or added from the rest of your skincare routine in order to change the pH of the chemical exfoliant. It's not going to happen. So no, you do not have to wait between steps. I do personally like to wait a minute or two after using a chemical exfoliant just because some of them are sticky and I don't like the feeling of it on my skin, so I tend to wait like one or two minutes, but that's personal preference. You do not have to wait. It has nothing to do with making your skincare less effective."

"I would say use a chemical exfoliant like something with glycolic acid. I love The Ordinary 7% glycolic acid toner. I think that using an exfoliant prior to your other products really helps prepare your lips and helps them absorb the other products more effectively."

"This is the glycolic acid 7% toning solution, a toner that you can use on the face or even on the scalp. This is amazing and it is 7% so it is intense; you shouldn't necessarily use this every day, but from the application to the formula to the price this is just great. Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid and it's one of the smallest ones so it can actually penetrate pretty deep, helps to exfoliate but doesn't dehydrate the skin the way that something like a BHA might. This is especially great for people with dry skin who want to exfoliate. With any acid you need to use a sunscreen during the day and you need to use a moisturizer after or a good one at night. This can really help to brighten the skin, it can help to remove dead skin cells and buildup, and it works great for dry skin but also for oily skin. I have an oily scalp and I love using this on my scalp. This is a phenomenal choice from The Ordinary, but you should use it at night, not during the day because it is an acid, so always use it in the evening and then sunscreen responsibly the next day."

3 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About The Ordinary
"The Ordinary has actives, don't get me wrong they've got the AHA, BHA peeling solution, they've got these other acids like glycolic acid, they've got retinoids. Yes, The Ordinary can be very potent and yes it has unfortunately caused irritation and burned holes in people's skin barriers literally with the acids, but if you do have sensitive skin you're not banned from using The Ordinary."

"This is made of glycolic acid, glycolic acid is an AHA so it's a water-soluble exfoliating acid and it's actually really really small, comes from sugarcane and it can penetrate deep into the skin. If you're really prone to irritation or pigmentation you want a patch test because this might not be right for you, but if you start low and go, glycolic acid can be fantastic. For the price and for what it is, it's such a great product."

"If you're looking to exfoliate, glycolic acid can do it and it does it good. This is potent, so don't use it every day unless you have really resilient skin. If you do have skin that's prone to hyperpigmentation, a little bit of this very strategically placed can help."

"One of the most affordable topical glycolic acid preparations that I have used is by The Ordinary and it's their 7% Glycolic Acid Toning Solution. This is super cost-effective you get a pretty large bottle for under $15. I don't typically use this on my face because it feels a little bit too spicy to use on my face but I think it's amazing for your body. You can actually buy a little spray top from Amazon and attach it to this bottle and then just spray it on the body and then go in with whatever lotion you like afterward."

Dermatologist's Favorite Body Skincare Products: Cleanser, Exfoliator, Sunscreen, & More!
"One of my favorite body exfoliants is by The Ordinary and it's their seven percent glycolic acid toning solution. This product was designed for the face but I actually prefer it as a body toner. Seven percent glycolic acid is sort of a mid potency glycolic acid and there are other things besides the concentration that contribute to the potency of glycolic acid, for example the pH that it exists at. I find that if you spray this or put it on your body once a day for a week or two your skin will glow. If you have sensitive skin I would probably start off by applying this just once a week to your skin and kind of building up, but I find that some of the best effects with using something like this are when you're using it at least a couple times a week. You can use it on your arms and your legs and your trunk, and you can also consider using it in your armpits or in your groin, these are areas that people tend to have excess pigmentation and a lot of times using a glycolic acid exfoliant can help reduce that pigment and make people a little more confident with those areas. It comes with a little narrow cap dispenser which is fine if you're going to put it on a cotton pad and swipe it over your skin, but you can actually get a spray nozzle off of Amazon or borrow it from one of your other skin care products and put it on the top of this bottle and that makes distributing this over a larger body surface area a lot easier."
