"Glycolic acid, and this is the GOAT, glycolic acid from The Ordinary, is really nice. Applying this at bedtime will also help exfoliate the top layer of the skin. Now be cautious if you have rosacea or sensitive skin, it may cause some irritation, so you can apply to a small patch on the jawline and just test it one night and see how you do with it before you apply it to your entire face. If you're really set out to do glycolic acid and it really irritates your skin, another way to approach it is to do short contact therapy, so instead of applying it to your entire face and sleeping with it, you can apply it, leave it on for a couple hours, and then wash it off. When I see videos where beauty influencers even dermatologists recommend glycolic acid for the armpits, I'm always cringing. I actually don't want my patients to do that because you're playing with fire here. What can potentially happen is that you get a contact dermatitis, whether allergic or irritant, most likely an irritant contact dermatitis, and you cause more inflammation leading to worsening of the hyperpigmentation, and your armpits could get worse. I like seeing a lot of other creators sharing their stories behind this, showing that their armpits did get worse with using glycolic acid, especially in skin of color."

"With your glycolic acids, if you're using an exfoliant every day, that's a problem. You're not supposed to be exfoliating every day. I always say one to three times a week max for exfoliating. I know this is a real concern, but I am very very concerned by putting an exfoliant, a leave-on exfoliant on such a delicate area. The axillary skin is very different from our facial skin. And so when the ordinary has come out with the glycolic acid toner that's meant for the face the armpit we have this fold here in dermatology we call that under occlusion. When you have say saran wrap over our topical steroids or topical medications that's under occlusion and it makes the topical medication more potent and more effective even now when it comes to the very delicate skin of the armpits and you have a fold that will occlude the medication and really push it in further into the skin you're running into trouble. And so I've been seeing patients with hyperpigmentation, contact dermatitis, really irritating rashes there that can leave a permanent hyperpigmented patch or scar essentially in the area. So be very very careful."

"The glycolic acid toner by The Ordinary, I actually use that every once in a while because it's gone viral and I actually like that product. If you wanted to use that to help further work on your pores, that's fine to do, but I wouldn't say to do that every day and I would not do the leave-on exfoliant the same day as a retinoid."

"The glycolic acid toner is actually pretty good. It's very nice and gentle exfoliating toner that some creators are recommending for the scalp for exfoliation or armpits. I have concerns with the armpit area. The armpit area or the axilla, that skin is very delicate and more fragile than the facial skin. And so if you apply your glycolic acid toner there to work on hyperpigmentation, which is very normal, guys, and skin of color especially, you can have darkened skin there. But what we don't want is to cause inflammation, irritate the skin there, which will lead to more hyperpigmentation. And I've seen patients do that. They've applied glycolic acid toner and because it's in an area of occlusion where you have a fold and two skin surfaces coming together you actually can push the medicine in further. Don't do that in the armpits. Now for the face, can glycolic acid boost collagen? I'd say maybe theoretically yes. We can have increased cell turnover through exfoliation and you can have some micro trauma to the skin in higher concentrations."

This is the best deodorant you're going to find and it actually reduces the pH of the skin under the arms, which means that potentially unpleasant scent causing bacteria can't multiply and so it'll just keep you fresh all day long. It's also great for exfoliating the underarm, so if you're someone that has some underarm discoloration, this will really help. I put a little of this just on my pan, pop it under after the shower every morning, fresh all day long. Yes, you can use it on the face, on the body, but for me I buy a couple of these just to use as a deodorant. Genuinely keeps me fresh and I just really really like it."

"I used to overuse it, so I used it every single day and found that it destroyed my skin barrier. I then decided that the product was at fault and I stopped using it. I then took a second look and thought maybe I was just overusing it, maybe it was me, and it turns out it was. I was just using it too frequently. On the scalp, put a little of this through the scalp twice a week and this will help prevent buildup of product, dandruff, and those flakes, leave it on for like 10 minutes then shampoo it out and you will notice such a difference. On the lips you do something called lip basing, where you put a little of this on the lips then put a rich emollient lip balm over the top of it, you'll wake up with the softest lips of your dreams. Personally I think this is a little bit too strong to use on the face, but if you've got a resilient skin type with no sensitivity this could work. You can use it on the dry elbows, knees, get your body summer ready with this. Some people use it under the arms to take away underarm discoloration and it also suppresses scent causing bacteria, so it's also a great deodorant option. For under £10 you can have like six or seven skincare uses from it and I absolutely love it."

"This is The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% exfoliating toner. I don't use this on the face. It would my skin would scream if I used 7% glycolic acid on my face. I use this on the scalp couple of times a week. I just put this through the scalp. It helps prevent buildup. It gets rid of some of those flakes and my scalp feels fresher and yeah, it just works really, really well. You can use it under the arms as an alternative to deodorant because the pH of this will suppress scent causing bacteria. So, it works great for that. You can use it on the feet if you want to smooth everything out. I wouldn't personally advise using this on the face, but everywhere else it's all good. And if you want to use it on the hair, put it through. It comes with this nozzle applicator, which is really easy. Put it through, leave it on for 2 minutes, then go into the shower, rinse it off, go about your usual routine. It genuinely works."

"The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% is basically the exfoliation that quickly takes off the top layer of skin. However, 7% is quite high for skin of color and for glycolic acid specifically, I would recommend 5% or less. I just wouldn't recommend this particular product for pigmentation. Even 1% reactions is too high when you're talking about hundreds of thousands of people. I would say no to this particular product. If you find a glycolic acid at 5% or less, I'm more likely to say yes. But there honestly are better exfoliators for skin of color than glycolic acid."

"With this there are no other tyrosinase inhibitors, this is a pure exfoliator and the way an exfoliator works is it just removes a top layer of dead skin cells, nothing else. There's nothing really to penetrate to help calm down the hyperactive melanin. So yes, you will get some temporary brightening with any form of exfoliation, but it is temporary. The other thing is glycolic acid is my least favorite exfoliation out of all the acids because it can burn skin of color, lead to hot spots and hyperpigmentation just because the molecular weight is so small. "I've seen people wanting to use that as a deodorant and it's just not a good idea because first of all the mechanism really isn't there. It's super affordable at $13 for an 8 oz bottle, which I actually think can last you quite a bit of time because in general we do not recommend using an exfoliant on a daily regular basis unless that's the only thing you're using in your routine. It contains 7% glycolic acid and that's the only chemical exfoliant in this product. 7% is a good concentration, it's not super low where it's only acting as a hint, usually those are like 2 to 4%, but it's still effective but not super high where it's going to cause significant irritation in most skin types. It's going to help improve skin texture, skin tone, hyperpigmentation, dullness, dead skin buildup, dry flaky skin, and certainly over time may help to refine your fine lines and wrinkles. It's a solution so usually used like a toner after cleansing, can be applied with a cotton pad or just with your bare hands. Overall it is fairly lightweight, absorbs quickly with minimal residue, although some people have reported it can leave a little slight filmy feel afterwards, but for the majority it's fairly elegant, lightweight and fast absorbing."

The glycolic acid does exfoliate and it can be helpful for textured skin, so it could be helpful for KP if you are someone who has eczema, which will be a lot of people who have KP, then this might not be the best ingredient for you, or this might not simply be the best product for you. This is super cost-effective you get a pretty large bottle for under $15. I don't typically use this on my face because it feels a little bit too spicy to use on my face but I think it's amazing for your body. You can actually buy a little spray top from Amazon and attach it to this bottle and then just spray it on the body and then go in with whatever lotion you like afterward."

"One of my favorite body exfoliants is by The Ordinary and it's their seven percent glycolic acid toning solution. This product was designed for the face but I actually prefer it as a body toner. Seven percent glycolic acid is sort of a mid potency glycolic acid and there are other things besides the concentration that contribute to the potency of glycolic acid, for example the pH that it exists at. I find that if you spray this or put it on your body once a day for a week or two your skin will glow. If you have sensitive skin I would probably start off by applying this just once a week to your skin and kind of building up, but I find that some of the best effects with using something like this are when you're using it at least a couple times a week. You can use it on your arms and your legs and your trunk, and you can also consider using it in your armpits or in your groin, these are areas that people tend to have excess pigmentation and a lot of times using a glycolic acid exfoliant can help reduce that pigment and make people a little more confident with those areas. It comes with a little narrow cap dispenser which is fine if you're going to put it on a cotton pad and swipe it over your skin, but you can actually get a spray nozzle off of Amazon or borrow it from one of your other skin care products and put it on the top of this bottle and that makes distributing this over a larger body surface area a lot easier."
