What the gurus are saying

Gurus overwhelmingly praise this as an affordable, lightweight oil that delivers genuine barrier support without heaviness, especially valued in warmer months. The standout appeal is its balanced fatty acid profile and how easily it layers when mixed into moisturizer rather than applied as a separate step. The main criticism is that it lacks the broader skin benefits of other oils like rosehip, and the product has been discontinued, which reviewers lament as a missed opportunity for The Ordinary.

"I have loved the ordinary chia seed oil in spring's past, but that oil has been discontinued. It helps keep my skin barrier strong, healthy, and hydrated."

"This is The Ordinary Chia Seed Oil. I have been in love with this for quite a few years and it's an oil that I pick up a lot in the more temperate months, really Spring and Summer for sure. It's a really nice kind of medium to lightweight oil and very supportive for your skin barrier."
Fall PM Retinal Skincare Routine + Why I Stopped Tretinoin
"The Ordinary Chia Seed Oil, I have just the tiniest little bit left. I did a routine a few weeks ago about three drops into the Liquid Gold here mixing it in. Chia seed oil, it is a very underground product, like it's not very hype, but I love that glow."
PM Routine w/ Tret | What Well-Aging Means to Me
"I'm going to use the ordinary chia seed oil alongside of that as well so I just mixed three drops of the oil into a pump of Stratia Liquid Gold and then I apply it that way. My skin just accepts these layers when they're mixed together a lot better than if I were to do a layer of like the emollient cream and then an oil on top it would just feel too thick for my skin. This way when I mix it I get all of that nourishing goodness and comfort but without a lot of thickness or greasiness on my skin."

"The Ordinary Chia Seed Oil, 10 out of 10, you've seen me use it in a lot of my skincare routines. It's really the oil that I favor in warm weather. This was recently discontinued by the Ordinary. They made that announcement this summer, so zero out of 10 right for that decision. You can no longer get your hands on this, and this was actually my last bottle. I'm going to really miss this one."

"I'm also using three drops of The Ordinary Chia Seed Oil. This is something that I do in every single skincare routine that I show on YouTube pretty much. This is something I use every single night to keep my moisture barrier strong and have been doing since 2018. It's been a long time."

"The Ordinary Chia Seed Oil, you know I love this one too. It's a 100% oil, it's very very affordable under $10, and chia seed actually has a really nice fatty acid profile too, especially for barrier deficient folks or those who are suffering with dehydration. What I particularly like about this one and why I reach for it is it's a little bit of a lighter oil expression than blends can be. It's not super duper thin but it's a little bit lighter, and so this is something that I reach for a lot in warmer weather when I'm producing more oil and I don't want a really thick kind of oil feel on my skin but I want all of the benefits of oil."
My Most Repurchased Skincare | 2024 Edition
"I've been using The Ordinary Chia Seed Oil since 2018, for almost six years now. This is not hype, I'm just being 100% with you, it's the product that just works for me and I don't want to take it out of my routine. I had really oily skin and was very acne prone, but as I got older it became more combination and prone to dehydration. Once I discovered oil, I realized it was actually really transforming my skin. I've used a lot of different oils, but I've bought The Ordinary Chia Seed Oil the absolute most because it's super affordable, it's like $10, so cheap but so good. The fatty acid composition of chia seed oil is a match made in heaven for my skin. It really helps with dehydration and it's a lighter type of oil, not so heavy that I can't use it in the summertime if I choose to. It's a really light, fluidy type of oil that's incredibly balancing, not overwhelming, not too greasy, and it just really helps my skin."
Stress-Free AM and PM Summer Skincare Routine
"I'm using the Ordinary Chia Seed Oil mixed directly into my moisturizer. I love oil because it really soothes and nourishes my skin, and the chia seed oil has that right Omega profile of fatty acids that's really good for your moisture barrier so that just helps keep my skin strong. What I like about this chia seed oil is that it's a little bit lighter weight than some of the other oils that I like. It's a little bit lighter so it's always kind of my go-to in the summer time to get the nourishment and comfort that my skin really wants without extra grease or without extra weight."
Slow Morning, Late Summer Skincare Routine
"I am using The Ordinary Chia Seed Oil. I'm just putting a couple of drops and I just mix that straight into my moisturizer. It helps to keep the layer thinner, it's quicker to absorb. I still get the nourishment and the glow of the oil but it's not sitting in like two separate kind of heavier layers on my skin. It feels so good. I love that last layer of the skincare routine."

"This is a real budget friendly facial oil that is beautifully cold pressed and such a great find. Chia seed oil definitely just didn't have the multitude of benefits that you get from say rose hip seed oil so people just didn't reach for it and choose it. I don't think it's a terrible product at all chia seed is great universal works for everyone but there are other oils I think just offer greater benefits. If you like a bargain and you want to shop this while it's on sale great, just drop a few drops of it into your moisturizer ramp up the hydration levels that you're going to see but again it was a hard sell for the ordinary not surprised it's going."
