What the gurus are saying

Gurus unanimously praise the B Oil as a potent hydrator and barrier-repair tool, particularly for dry or irritated skin. The consistent standout is its lightweight, effective formula that delivers noticeable softness and glow even in small amounts. The recurring knock is its earthy, algae-derived smell, though reviewers note it dissipates on skin. Most recommend using sparingly (one drop) and applying at night, as daytime use under makeup can feel heavy.

"It's packed full of antioxidants and so it's going to deeply nourish, hydrate, soften the skin, and you've got a pack full of antioxidant protection too. Those algae extracts, the algae itself, is really great and quite innovative in skincare. There are other marine-based products but you don't see a lot of them. This is one of the best facial oils I have ever used. You can either use it at the end of your skincare routine for some extra hydration or you can mix it in with your favorite moisturizer then apply it. It'll just double down on the benefits of that moisturizer, get you some antioxidant protection, and feels so good. I'm quite lavish with this. I even use it on the body mixed in with my moisturizer because it gives you the softest skin, perfect for summer. At £9 for 30ml, I think now is the best time to buy it."

"The B Oil by The Ordinary is a new launch with a disgusting smell but the most hydrating formula. It works on your skin barrier like a dream, so anybody who has a broken skin barrier, rashes, or sensitivity issues, one drop when you pat it into your skin gives you radiance and glow. It's also fabulous for irritated skin and your skin barrier. It's a thin, lightweight oil, so don't squeeze the entire dropper and slather it on; use maximum one drop."

"It has a greenish yellow hue and an earthy scent to it, not strong but mild, coming from the micro algae, but once applied to your skin you don't smell it anymore. If your skin is super tight and you really need moisture and your skin is very dry, go with this one. Apply it on top of your moisturizer, just a couple of drops, and pat it into your skin. This brings your skin back to life. You will have this nice glow to your skin even after rinsing your skin care off the next morning. Your skin will feel softer as well and it really improves the skin barrier. I'm not the biggest fan of facial oils, but when my skin really needs it, especially during the winter months, this is the one I'm always going with because it never ever disappoints. You can use this every day twice a day, but I use this at night time because when I incorporate it in my morning routine with sunscreen and makeup on top of it, it just becomes too heavy and your chances of peeling are a lot higher."
