What the gurus are saying

The star marketing claim doesn't match the real formula: this is marketed as a salicylic acid treatment but actually relies on sulfur, with the salicylic acid in a very low concentration. It does calm and soothe blemishes when applied, though it hasn't held up to the original hype, and recent price hikes make the small amount of product harder to justify.

"Salicylic acid treatment from the INKEY List. A lot of people don't know that salicylic acid is anti-inflammatory. It's related to acetyl salicylic acid, AKA aspirin, and applied topically it can actually help to take down inflammation as well as exfoliate the scalp skin. And our scalp has a lot more sebaceous glands, basically those oil glands, than the rest of our body. These are great options if you feel like your scalp is inflamed."

10 Best & Worst Hair Growth Treatments That I’ve Tried At Home
"I found some things that were like exfoliating or nice for my curls from the Inky List like this salicylic acid exfoliating treatment. It was good for getting the crusties out of the way, but I don't feel like this helped regrow my hair."

"There was a lot of talk about this product, Salicylic Acid Blemish Treatment, with people saying this was just bad marketing. This product relies on sulfur to deliver the spot fighting benefit, but sulfur isn't sexy, so it's Salicylic Acid, let's make that front and center to sell the product. A lot of people called them out on it and said it's fancy marketing over actual quality formulations."

Its Over For THE INKEY LIST - Can This Serum Save Them
"They had the Salicylic Acid Blemish Treatment, a great product which I absolutely loved, but again they focused down on that salicylic acid because it sounded new, innovative, sexy, like it had that appeal, but actually it was in a very low concentration. It was a lot of the other ingredients that were actually doing the heavy lifting."

SKINCARE GRAVEYARD - Skincare I No Longer Use (And Why)
"The INKEY List Salicylic Acid Blemish Treatment is a product that I completely bought into the hype of when it launched. I still suffer with adult acne and breakouts, and this was my go-to treatment when I saw that pimple emerging, slap some of this on and it worked really well to just calm it, soothe it and kind of stop it in its tracks. Now the issue with this is it's gone up in price a lot recently and you don't get a lot of product. I also think The INKEY List were guilty of over promise and under delivery when it came to this product. They really hyped it, it was probably the best on the market until about six months ago."
