What the gurus are saying

The gurus praise it as an affordable, gentle makeup and sunscreen remover that does not strip or leave skin feeling tight, with oat's calming properties working well for sensitive and irritated skin. However, several experts flagged that the reformulated version separates in the tube and leaves a film unless applied to completely dry skin, which means anyone considering it may want to apply to dry skin only and have a washcloth on hand. A few found the oat scent off-putting, but many have embraced it as a reliable, budget-friendly first cleanse.

"It's one of the most effective cleansing balms I've ever used. Didn't dry me out and a great price as well. But the worst because sometimes the product separated. You'd open the lid, a load of oil would come out, and it was just next to impossible to squeeze out of the tube. After testing the new version, product separation is still an issue. The graininess has gone and it feels like a really nice rich cleansing balm. Very classic, does the job it needs to do. But there's still something wrong. Skin's not feeling dry or tight in any way and it does rinse away very nicely."

"The Inkey List reformulated and cheapened the ingredients they were using in the product and ruined what was an absolute gamechanging cleanser. People started complaining online that the product started separating, it didn't cleanse as well as before, and it was almost a little grainy on application. The brand never actually owned up to reformulating it, but thousands of people said this was a completely different cleanser. They tried to save a few pence or cents and ruined a perfectly good product."

BEST CLEANSER 2023 - Move Over The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm
"I loved how you could use it as a mask or a cleanser, how it felt so calming and soothing on the skin, got rid of multiple layers of water resistant SPF and makeup and disappeared like that without a trace. It was like the best Holy Grail cleansing balm. Then for reasons not only to The Inkey List, I thought we could do better, let's reformulate it, and as a result it split before you even got halfway through the product. It didn't cleanse as well as it used to. I found it a little bit irritating on the skin and it used to come out separated in such a gloopy mess. Really wasn't the Holy Grail product it used to be. It wasn't just me. So many of you guys said exactly the same thing, that you'd moved away from it because it just wasn't working."

"My opinion still remains with this oat cleansing balm: I do not like the smell and I do not like the texture. But as you can see it is melting that makeup off."

"The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm, a lot of people absolutely love this stuff. I didn't love it. I didn't hate it at first and then I changed to not loving it but not hating it. It's pretty effective at removing makeup, but I did find this leaves a film for me if I don't use it with a washcloth to rinse it off. And I found you have to ignore the directions on this and don't do what it says because it says to apply to a dampened face. I highly disagree with that. You have to apply this to dry skin. If you apply this to damp skin it doesn't do a good job at anything, but if you apply it to dry skin it does a better job for me. It leaves a little bit of a film, but for a lot of other people it doesn't. In terms of affordability, it's really affordable, so if it ends up working great for you it's worth it."

"The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm contains oats so this is very calming and soothing to the skin. It's great for all skin types including those that have sensitive skin and it also is quite moisturizing as well. I never use this as that traditional cleanser; I just use this to remove makeup and sunscreen and then of course as a face mask. This is really gentle, calming, and soothing, and you're getting 150 mls of product."

5 MUST HAVE SKINCARE PRODUCTS TO CALM TRETINOIN IRRITATION/ RETINOL BURN FAST!
"This is a bomb, it's thick but it's also very moisturizing on the skin. It's super gentle, there's no fragrance, but also it really helps to repair the skin barrier with the oat ingredient. Oats is a humectant, so this is going to moisturize and nourish the skin, but it can also help to calm and soothe irritated skin as well. You can use this as your everyday cleanser both morning and evening. This works really well as a makeup and sunscreen remover and also great as that second cleanse as well. You can use this as a mask, put a thick layer all over your face all over your neck wherever you're experiencing irritation and just leave it on for as long as you want, half an hour, an hour, a couple of hours, and let this penetrate the skin. Three percent of the oat ingredient in here will really help to calm that irritation. When my skin is really rosy sometimes I will use this and I do feel like when I rinse it off after an hour or so my skin doesn't look as rosy. You can use this every day twice a day even if your skin is normal."
ANTI-AGING SKINCARE ROUTINES ON A $60 BUDGET | MORNING & NIGHTTIME | AFFORDABLE AND EFFECTIVE!
"The Inkey List Oat Cleansing Balm is perfect for all skin types including oily skin. It's a great cleanser to calm irritated sensitive skin, and also great if you have dry skin. It's a perfect everyday cleanser that performs really well. It doesn't strip the skin and it doesn't make your skin feel tight; it keeps your skin feeling comfortable. If you have redness, this cleanser is also really great for that. A little amount goes a long way, and when you emulsify it with water you get a nice cleanse. You can also use this as a mask. If you need some hydration, have a little bit of irritation, and your skin is rosy, you can put a decent amount all over your face, leave it on for as long as you like, and then rinse. Your face will feel amazing."

"The Inkey List has many excellent skincare products and they're actually pretty affordable brand at baseline, especially for Sephora. One of my favorites is actually their Oat Cleansing Balm. Use it to dissolve makeup, water resistant sunscreen. It has emulsifiers in it so that when you come in with a little bit of water and then a mild cleanser, it all just rinses away. It's very effective, gentle around the eyes. It kind of has an odd odor to it. It's fragrance-free but it has oat in it, so it's kind of like if you've ever bathed in colloidal oatmeal, you know that smell, that aroma. A lot of people have told me over the years they don't like the way it smells, but many of you have discovered it and that is like your holy grail cleansing balm. It's great, affordable at baseline, and if you can save, why not add to cart."

"This is the Oat Cleansing Balm from The Inkey List and I have to say I love this. It's one of their best sellers but some people hate this. For me it is an absolute favorite. I love this as a first cleanse because it breaks down makeup and sunscreen so well and you get so much and it's so inexpensive. Yes, it's a little gloopy on the tube and it can be a little bit separating, but for the price I just mix it back up. This is a miss for many people but this is absolutely a hit for me. This is amazing if you have oily, combo, or acne prone skin if you're looking for an excellent inexpensive cleanser that gets the job done."

"Another really affordable and great cleansing balm is from Inkey List, their Oat Cleansing Balm. This is a thicker balm, and I actually sometimes use this in the shower. It's very gentle and it works fairly well. I don't find it to work as effectively at removing my eye makeup, but for all the sunscreen it works great and it rinses off really nicely with minimal residue."

"A cleansing balm is really your secret weapon here to carefully remove makeup and waterproof sunscreen from your skin with a very gentle massage technique that helps it just lift right up off the skin without needing to use any harsh abrasive makeup wipes or eye makeup remover that can pull and tug the skin or just irritate the eyes and the skin. Cleansing balms specifically are very gentle on the skin, really nourishing and hydrating to our skin barrier all while doing the heaviest work of the entire cleansing method and getting this oil-based sticky makeup and skincare products out of the crevices of our skin and off our skin, especially waterproof makeup."
