What the gurus are saying

Alpha arbutin earns praise as a potent alternative to prescription hydroquinone for tackling pigmentation, since it converts to hydroquinone once on the skin. Gurus call it a solid over-the-counter option for anyone seeking brightening results without a prescription or those who find vitamin C ineffective. One reviewer found it average and noted results vary by person, so it may work better for some than others.

"The Inkey List Alpha Arbutin Serum may work better for others than it did for me. I'd rate it a six out of ten, it's average and will work better for some than others."

"There is the Inkey List, they have an Alpha Arbutin Serum if you want other options. It's a great option that you can still buy over the counter, especially if you can't get your hands on something like hydroquinone which needs that prescription from a Derm, and if you don't want to use vitamin C or if it doesn't work for your skin but you're like I love the idea of vitamin C brightening my skin and helping with dark spots, the alpha arbutin is a good alternative."

5 Best Selling Serums From The Inkey List
"This is from The INKEY List, and this one is so good, so potent, I absolutely love it. Alpha arbutin is fantastic for pigmentation because of how it transforms itself into hydroquinone, and hydroquinone is what's prescribed by doctors and dermatologists. It's such a little hero ingredient that so many people don't pay attention to."

How to get rid of hyperpigmentation: my updated skincare routine for fall | Doctor Anne
"I follow up with The Inkey List Alpha Arbutin Serum. Arbutin is like the weaker cousin of hydroquinone. I use alpha arbutin, which has less irritation potential, but is obviously due to that also less effective, and it targets production by inhibiting the Tyrosinase, but in a less potent way than vitamin C does. It also has Squalane, which means that if your skin is more on the oily side it could work as a moisturizer for you. For me it's not quite enough, which is why I follow up with again the Murad Nutrient Charged Water Gel."
