What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise the essence for its lightweight texture, quick absorption, and ability to boost hydration and product efficacy without feeling heavy. The major friction point is price: at $110 for 5.1 oz, reviewers repeatedly note that comparable alternatives exist for a fraction of the cost, with some questioning its continued relevance in today's market. A few gurus report seeing no visible results despite regular use, while others swear by it for plumping and prepping skin.

"I like their essence. It's really lightweight, absorbs really quickly. It preps my skin for the serums and treatments that follow. It kind of helps boost your skincare treatment with its 100% Hadasei, it's like a trio of fermented Japanese superfoods. They're going to help hydrate, resurface, soften, and plump your skin. I just really like it. It helps me hydrate and plump the skin. I apply my vitamin C on top of it. It really helps prep the skin for my next step. It helps improve some of the absorption of the other products in your routine as well. So if you're somebody perimenopausal or postmenopausal, this might be a good one to introduce. The key ingredients here are the Akita rice, the Okinawa algae, and the Uji green tea."

"I love it because it's super lightweight. I feel like it hydrates, but it doesn't leave me that hydrating feeling completely. I can still apply my moisturizer on top without feeling like there's anything underneath. If you're very dry and you want the lightest hydration but still somewhat hydration, she's your girl. This will prep my skin, boost my hydration, makes my actives almost feel like a little bit better going on. It will hydrate, it will plump a little bit. It makes it look kind of radiant, not too dewy, not too shiny, and it helps my subsequent steps absorb and work a little bit better. The key ingredients in this one are the Aikita rice, the Okinawa algae, and the uji green tea."

The Only Toners & Essences I've Repurchased - Fragrance Free & Affordable Favorites
"It's got saccharomyces ferment which is a great probiotic soothing ingredient, green tea ferment, and then it's got Okinawa algae. Algae are great for protecting your skin from especially light damage, UV, radiation, sun damage. Those are the main functionary ingredients of it. It's a wonderful essence. It's really expensive. If it were like 30 bucks, I'd probably still buy it. Really nice, really lovely, really light texture, but there's just so many other options. At this point, if I were going to spend 110 bucks on a toner, I would probably save the 110 bucks and put it towards something like the Skin Medicinca TNS serum or something that gets a little bit more beneficial ingredients. But it's still wonderful. Really liked it, used a lot, went through a lot of bottles of it."

"I had a feeling it might not be for me but they came out with a small size a 2.5 oz 75ml bottle and I picked that one up and I thought it was a good chance to give it a try because I have had good luck with some Tatcha products. The sunscreens are great, the essence I really enjoy, some of the moisturizers are quite nice. Not everything from Tatcha is a total win but some of the primers and things like that have been really nice."
Then vs Now - What Cult Skincare Products Stand the Test of Time
"It currently retails for $110 for 5.1 ounces. It's got rice ferment, green tea, and Okinawa allergy. In my opinion today, compared to back in the day when this first came out, I personally don't think this one is as relevant anymore. I found an alternative that's $22, so it's like $88 less. The one thing that is nice about the Tatcha is the short ingredient list, but then again we're paying $110, it's a lot of money."

"I used the Tatcha Essence a lot and I could not literally see any difference anything on my skin. Right now I'm at a point when it fit into a new routine is finished and I'm not going to repurchase it because honestly the product is so expensive and I did not see any results from it."
