What the gurus are saying

This oil's gold flecks dissolve into skin and create a very subtle, warm glow with a whisper of shimmer that catches light. Though it's praised for being beautiful on the shelf and gorgeous on skin, some reviewers note that equally effective oils are available at lower price points. Those with sensitive skin or a gold allergy should steer clear.

"I did originally enjoy the Maracuja Oil, I just don't personally think you necessarily need to spend extra on it, there are a lot of great oil options from much more affordable brands, and to this day my absolute favorite oils are still from indie brands."
Yay
"The Maracuja Oil from Tarte is really exciting. It has these little gold flecks in it and it's a beautiful oil. While the gold flecks don't do anything miraculous for skin, they do kind of dissolve inside of this oil and leave you with this really nice dewy glow. If you have sensitive skin or god forbid a gold allergy, which is rare but possible, you want to steer clear of this. But if you're someone who says I want skincare that's fun, I want something that looks beautiful on my shelf, that looks gorgeous on my skin, and literally gives me almost like a makeup light iridescence, this is for you. It gives you that oil layer but then it also has these little gold flecks and as they dissolve into skin, they literally give you almost this highlighter like shimmer. It's very very subtle, you can barely see it, but it looks absolutely gorgeous and it just has this warm little gold tint that kind of reflects when it hits the light. I absolutely love this one, it's super fun to use."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
