  • Fragrance polarizes strongly

What the gurus are saying

One expert found this a standout mineral body sunscreen that blends in without white cast or stickiness, though the floral scent softens noticeably after about half an hour. However, another reviewer encountered a scent that people found off-putting. Those drawn to floral notes and mineral-only protection may want to patch-test first, and applying it over a light body lotion can help it spread smoothly.

"I hate the smell of this sunscreen. Horrific. It was horrible. And I was doing a meet and greet and the queue was going past the display and I saw people in the queue who were coming to meet me and Robert picking up the product and smelling it and pulling a face. A lot of people didn't like the smell."

"Their radiance body lotion is a mineral sunscreen for the body, unfortunately if you have even a smidgen of body hair it rolls up in that body hair, it doesn't rub in, it's pasty, it's dry, and it smells like gone off milk at the beach."

"This is one of the best sunscreens I've ever used for the body. It's broadspectrum with 20% zinc oxide, so it's all mineral, and it has a beautiful floral scent. I'm not really a floral type of person, but I really love this scent, especially after it has toned down a little bit after a half an hour or so. This doesn't leave your skin greasy or sticky, your skin does not cling to your clothes, there's no gross sunscreen smell, and it truly doesn't leave a white cast on my skin. It actually blends in quite nice. I do like to prep my skin beforehand with a body lotion or a body cream just to give my skin that slip before going in with this because I feel like this spreads and applies well."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
