What the gurus are saying

At $630 for nine products ($60-90 each), the routine feels overpriced and unnecessarily redundant, with duplicate night oils and an eye cream that may not justify the cost. The lineup notably lacks sunscreen, a critical step that leaves the collection incomplete. Most doubt the brand will hold consumer interest long enough to sustain itself, expecting people to stick with their existing skincare.

"The entire nine steps consists of a cleanser, a toner, an exfoliator, hyaluronic acid serum, a vitamin C serum, a face cream, an eye cream, oil drops, and a night oil, totaling 630 dollars without tax. This sounds more like a cash grab than a necessity to me. The ingredients don't look bad on first impressions, but the question is are they worth 60 to 90 dollars that people are going to be charged for them. I don't understand why all of these steps are necessary. Even if one product is phenomenal, some of the other ones kind of look like cash grabs. I don't understand why we need two different night oils or why we need an eye cream. This just feels like another Cody cash grab and another consumer product that is going to just get acquired and go out of business in a couple of years."

"I'm suspicious of this brand. She says she's worked closely with a lot of people in the industry and got the best advice ever, but that's kind of a nebulous rebuttal to the credibility question. Nine products for $630, or $90 for a single serum, feels out of touch with the realities of these days with inflation, even though for her that's nothing compared to the roughly $4,500 worth of luxury skincare she already uses. Let's be honest, the skincare line is lacking one of the most important pieces of any skincare routine, and that is sun protection, and given her financial backing I find it a little suspicious that she doesn't have one. I don't think the brand or the products themselves will necessarily be bad, I just don't think the consumer interest is going to hold long enough to be sustained, and I doubt people are going to break up with their luxury skincare to start using hers. I predict this is going to fizzle out."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Alpha hydroxy acids

Alpha hydroxy acids loosen the bonds holding dead cells at the surface. The evidence supports smoother texture and more even tone over time, and they can leave skin more sensitive to sun.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
