What the gurus are saying

Gurus overwhelmingly praise this as a gold-standard vitamin C serum backed by robust clinical studies and dermatologist endorsement, particularly effective for dry and sensitive skin. The consistent caveat is the premium price tag (over $165) and the product's instability: it oxidizes quickly, demands cool storage away from light, and should be used within 2-3 months of opening. One dissenting voice objects to the price-to-cost ratio and notes the formulation may be too strong for deeper skin tones.

"This one is a splurge, but it's definitely worth it. It has vitamin C, E, and then ferulic acid. It is probably the most potent antioxidant that there is. It has the most data. It's the most studied. This one's going to help fight against UV damage, free radicals. It'll help brighten the skin. It'll help with fine lines and wrinkles."
Save vs Splurge: Dermatologist-Approved Skincare Picks That Are Actually Worth It
"Skinceuticals C E Ferulic is considered the gold standard in antioxidant serums. It brightens skin, it firms over time, protects against all that environmental stressors like UV radiation and pollution. It is clinically proven to reduce up to 48% of potential damage from all the free radicals formed by pollution and the sun and the metals for up to eight times stronger skin against environmental aggressors. The key ingredients are 15% ascorbic acid, 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid. There's really no other vitamin C on the market with as much clinical studies and research behind it as there is with Skinceuticals. Skinceuticals until just recently has held the patent on their exact concentration and the pH of the vitamin C, which are proven to deliver better penetration and stability."
Skincare for Your 20s: Top Tips from Dermatologist Dr. Aleksandra Brown
"A good vitamin C, and really the gold standard, the most studied one, is SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. It does come with a price tag, but it combines vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid, making it a potent antioxidant powerhouse that protects against environmental damage such as pollution and UV rays. It reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and improves skin firmness. It will also brighten skin tone for a radiant, even complexion. The key ingredients here are 15% L-ascorbic acid, aka vitamin C, which provides antioxidant protection. It also has 1% vitamin E, which will nourish and protect the skin from damage, and 5% ferulic acid, which enhances the effects of other antioxidants."
Best Vitamin C Serums for Every Skin Type | Dermatologist Recommended
"This is the gold standard. If you don't think your skin is sensitive, I would start here. It's the most clinically studied. It works really quick. It targets everything from dullness to collagen loss. This one's the most often recommended by dermatologists because it has the most studies behind it. It's worth the splurge. It combines the vitamin C, a little bit of vitamin E, and ferulic acid. Therefore, it's like a potent powerhouse of antioxidants. It's really lightweight. It does have a stinky smell. If you're sensitive to smell, it might be a tough one. But if you're not, I would splurge and go through a bottle and see what you think. It's a pretty powerful antioxidant, protects against environmental damage, UV rays. It helps minimize some of the hyperpigmentation. It will reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You do need to use it with sunscreen on top. You may want to even moisturize in between your vitamin C and sunscreen. But with consistent use, you will notice improvement in your skin. The key ingredients are 15% l-ascorbic acid, which is your vitamin C. It has 1% vitamin E, 0.5% ferulic acid."

"The smell is something I really struggle with. It's not a dupe to other vitamin C products, but it's very similar in consistency. The ingredients are fantastic. It has 15% L ascorbic acid, and some people with rosacea don't respond well to L ascorbic acid, so that's something to watch out for. My skin is very sensitive and this is 15% L ascorbic acid, it has not irritated my skin at all or my eyes, and I do get it all the way to my under eyes. Vitamin C, the L ascorbic acid, it can be very unstable and should be in a glass container."

"The goat of vitamin C serum is Skinceuticals C E Ferulic. It's backed by a lot of science and so it's at a higher price point, but it has vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid. All of them work synergistically together to stabilize each other, but also to help reduce dark spots. Just a few drops on the face, maybe five drops. You can also bring it down to your neck. Do not neglect the neck and chest area because this really shows your age. If you actually want to start off by putting a few drops on the back of the hand and then applying it to your face, go right ahead. That's a really nice strategy to treat the back of your hands, which shows a lot of photoaging over time."

Dermatologist Explains: Anti-Aging Skincare Routine By Age
"If you have the money, go for 15% ascorbic acid in Skinceuticals C E Ferulic. You're paying for it the reputation, the studies backing it up, the science behind Skinceuticals products. It's been out for a long time and a lot of dermatologists stand by it. I usually apply that in the morning after cleansing. You apply your vitamin C serum, then your moisturizer and sunscreen or your moisturizer with SPF over the vitamin C serum."
You Are Doing Your Skincare Incorrectly: Common Skincare Routine Mistakes
"For ascorbic acid whether it's Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, these are ascorbic acid ingredients which is great. You got to be careful on how you store it, don't keep it by your window sill where sunlight's coming and it's going to hit the bottle and cause it to oxidize. So once it oxidizes the potency goes down quite a bit. Keep it in a cool place. Use this in the morning and this does not replace sunscreen, so apply your sunscreen after this. If you were to layer it with hyaluronic acid, you would apply this first and then your hyaluronic acid serum after. Because this is such an unstable compound and such a great ingredient for long-term benefits, I would apply this first versus your hyaluronic acid, which is more of like temporary plumping of your skin. This adds to long-term benefits, so I would apply that after you get this great ingredient on your skin first."
You Are Doing Your Skincare Incorrectly: Common Skincare Routine Mistakes
"If you see SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, or M love their glass is very dark so it's going to try and filter out the light coming in. I keep it in a cool area of my bathroom or if you have a skincare fridge which I've been gifted before you can keep your vitamin C serums in there because heat and sunlight will make your ascorbic acid break apart and become not effective."

Dermatologist Explains: Ten Ways to Manage Melasma!
"Skinceuticals C E Ferulic is top tier with that 15% ascorbic acid, and I like the C E Ferulic because it's also backed up by vitamin E and ferulic acid antioxidants that help boost the efficacy of the serum to help with stability but also brighten your skin even more. Use your vitamin C serum in the morning before your sunscreen to help fight free radical damage from all of the oxidative stress that we can get from sunlight and pollution when we step outside."
Dermatologist Explains: How to Upgrade your MORNING Skincare Routine!
"SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic is paired with vitamin E and ferulic acid that help stabilize but also help potentiate the effects of vitamin C. Try to use your vitamin C serums in about three to six months tops because it can oxidize and you notice a color change, and so the potency may be affected by that color change and go down with time, and so you don't want it sitting in your drawer or your counter for too long. Just a few drops in the morning and then go ahead and put your moisturizer on and your sunscreen or a moisturizer with SPF."
The Perfect Timing To Begin Anti-aging Products And Procedures (Dermatologist Explains)
"You'll see in dermatology C+E+F, the Vichy Lift Active line, SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, or Mulo, those all have ascorbic acid and they are stabilized by vitamin E and ferulic acid to work with it synergistically to brighten your skin."
Dermatologist Explains: Three Ways to Glow Up Your Skin Today
"There's Dermatology Vitamin C E Plus F, so this is a nice one. It has vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid, and it's a little bit higher price point but not as much as the C Ferulic by SkinBetter Science. I want to show you that if you don't use these quickly within the first couple months it will change color and turn into this dark syrupy look. You want to use your vitamin C serums probably in the first two to three months otherwise they'll start to oxidize and break down and become less potent. SkinCeuticals, I believe, did that Apple trick and showed that even if the color of the product changes it's still efficacious. But I always say try to keep your vitamin C serum in a cool area. You can even put it in the fridge if you wanted, but a cool area and not in the sunlight by the window sill."

"Starting off with the holy grail of antioxidant serums for the past 20 years, Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic, which will run you about $185 a bottle. This product paved the way for every other vitamin C serum on the market because this exact formula has been clinically proven to enhance sun protection, reduce fine lines, and fade dark spots. When you hear dermatologists and aestheticians talk about how amazing vitamin C is for your skin, it is because of the studies done on C E Ferulic specifically. For those reasons, it's not a bad place to spend your money, and I actually carry it in my own practice because it is the gold standard."
Top Pick: gold standard vitamin c

I Tested The World's Most Popular Vitamin C Serums — These are the Best | Dr. Sam Ellis
"I could not do a global bestsellers vitamin C list without including SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. This is probably some of the most expensive vitamin C you can buy, running about $185 for a bottle, but it is truly the gold standard when it comes to vitamin C. What I mean by it being the gold standard is SkinCeuticals did the original clinical trials on vitamin C and its efficacy with this exact formula. So when we make the generalization that vitamin C helps with collagen production and brightening of the skin, we are not actually saying that all vitamin C products do that; we are really saying that SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic does that and has proven to do so. This has 15% L-ascorbic acid, vitamin E, and ferulic acid, which is sort of the holy trinity of antioxidants. This was actually the first vitamin C that I ever used. I started using it in my 20s when I was a dermatology resident because they give you tons of products to try, and this one really stood out to me. It's kind of a watery, slightly oily texture and it's very hydrating on the skin. It's definitely effective and I have no qualms recommending it to someone who does not have budgetary constraints. But I don't love that it's $185, and I also don't love that it comes in a dropper bottle. That does make it oxidize a little bit faster. And dropper bottles are also a problem for me."
Hyperpigmentation Morning Skincare Routine with Hydroquinone | Dr. Sam Ellis
"This is like prestige antioxidant skin care. The texture is super nice, it's a lightweight serum but it's not as watery as some of the ascorbic acid-based serums like Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, which I also really love, that one's super watery, this one's thicker than that. Vitamin C is helpful for helping you produce collagen and it also slows the breakdown of collagen. When it comes to addressing melasma and hyperpigmentation, it also inhibits an enzyme in your skin called tyrosinase, and tyrosinase is what makes melanin, the pigment in your skin. So when you slow that process down or reduce it, you're able to get your pigmentation under better control. In addition to having vitamin C in here in the form of tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, which is an oil-soluble form of vitamin C, this also has so many other antioxidants in it. Yeah, it's a pricier vitamin C for sure, but I think it's not just a vitamin C. To me, this is a very comprehensive antioxidant serum."

Anti-aging Skincare: When to Spend and When to Save | Dr. Sam Ellis
"The undisputed king of vitamin C is Skinceuticals C E Ferulic. This is the vitamin C that put this antioxidant on the map. It's what proved vitamin C can be efficacious in skincare. It is the most well-studied formula when it comes to vitamin C ever. If that's the vitamin C you want in your routine, you're going to pay for it, it's like $180, but for so many people that is worth the spend in your routine because that is the most proven version of this product. If you can use vitamin C and it's within your budget, I recommend it. It helps with collagen production, it helps with brightening and dark marks, and it helps enhance the efficacy of your sunscreen."
Dermatologist's Favorite Skincare Ingredients! Vitamin C, Glycerin, Benzoyl Peroxide, & More
"The most popular L-ascorbic acid or topical antioxidant product of all time is the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. The clinical studies that prove L-ascorbic acid's efficacy were actually done on this specific patented formula. This contains 15% L-ascorbic acid as well as Vitamin E and ferulic acid, which are other antioxidants that help keep that L-ascorbic acid stable and effective. I've been using this topical antioxidant for years. For a long time there really weren't any dupes or competitors, and because of that instability of L-ascorbic acid, I was always a little nervous about using a different product that wasn't using that exact patented formula. SkinCeuticals has increased the price of this yet again, it used to be in the $160s and it's now $182 in the US, which is steep and a big ask for most people. I still think it's an awesome product. It's still in my skincare cabinet and I still use it, but it is expensive."
Dark Spots GONE: My Ultimate Routine for Hyperpigmentation & Radiant Glowing Skin | Dr. Sam Ellis
"The gold standard antioxidant is vitamin C. It's why SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic is so renowned because they did the initial pioneering research to determine that L-ascorbic acid, that specific form of vitamin C, when formulated as they have formulated it really helps with things like brightening the skin but also protecting against things like collagen breakdown."

"The good news is it is skin safe: no denatured alcohol, no fragrance, no essential oils. It's got a bit of a funky smell, but that's fine, it is what the ingredient is. It's got 15% ascorbic acid, so that's pure vitamin C, and again, too strong for skin of color. It's not in an airless pump. And honestly, the price to make this product is about £2 and they're selling it for £165, so I don't really like that massive mismatch. It's not warranted. It's a hard no."

BEST & WORST Vitamin C in Sephora for skin of colour | Doctor V
"For me this product is a no for multiple reasons. Number one, 50% lactic acid is not our friend and it's not something you should be wearing during the day and going out into the sun with. Number two, the packaging is not ideal. If it was an airless packaging I'd prefer it. I know they've done a lot to stabilize this vitamin C but still for us we actually don't know once it goes off. And the third thing about this product is the price point. For $220 this is a joke because I know this product is not going to cost them more than $5 to make. If the majority of this product is water and it's 50% lactic acid plus 0.5% ferulic acid plus tocopherol acetate, there's really not much going on in this product for it to be that price point. If you look at this product objectively and you look at where it is right now in the market you can clearly see that this product is not worth the money."

Dermatologist Ranks Popular Skincare Brands (Some Might Shock You!) | part 1
"SkinCeuticals is a luxury brand, but it's also super loved by derms. It's one of those luxury brands that derms can very much stand behind. It has so much science behind each of their formulations. I've met some of the scientists and I have so much respect for them. As a derm who's been recommending SkinCeuticals products for 10-plus years, I've seen people's skin change from using SkinCeuticals products; I see the results firsthand, so it has a special place in my heart. They're known for their SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic; that's their cult product, and I'm a huge fan. My biggest issue is how expensive they are. I don't think your whole line needs to be from SkinCeuticals, because otherwise you may go into debt. Products work. I'm going to have to give this one a five."

"It's fragrance and alcohol-free with a really nice lotion texture. If you have skin that needs some brightening, this is a nice serum for that. It's got 15% ascorbic acid, 1% vitamin E, and half a percent of ferulic acid. It's basically what most of these other vitamin C serums are based on, with research that Skinceuticals and L'Oreal did behind this product. A lot of people say the Geek and Gorgeous Sea Glow and this are so close, and formula-wise, they're very similar. But the couple times I've ordered it, they have not come nearly as fresh as the Geek and Gorgeous Sea Glow has. It's not my favorite, but it is the fan favorite."

My Top 9 Vitamin C Serums for Rebuilding Collagen in Skin & Anti-Aging
"SkinCeuticals paved the way with their vitamin C serum, no doubt about it. It's not one of my favorites because it's $180 or some dollars, but the formula they have is proven. Even if it was the same price as some of these other ones, I and my friends just haven't had good luck with it arriving fresh. So once it's starting to turn colors, golden, dark, and then dark brown and almost rust colored, it's oxidizing. You're not going to get the most benefit from them. That's the main issue I have with SkinCeuticals. They're sold in so many places and it's just difficult to get one that's made fresh."

Crazy Price Increases on Skincare and Beauty Products Plus More to Come?!?!
"SkinCeuticals CE Ferulic is 182 dollars and I get that SkinCeuticals has done a ton of research and everything like that and their patents coming up and everything else like that but why can geek and gorgeous manufacture nearly the same thing for 13 dollars that these people are selling for 182 dollars? It's not like there's expensive ingredients in there. There's nothing in this vitamin C serum that costs that much. So I mean I get that they did research and everything else but sometimes it makes me look like it's just a money grab because their patent might be expiring soon."
Then vs Now - What Cult Skincare Products Stand the Test of Time
"It's a product that really came out with research-backed science proving ascorbic acid as well as vitamin E and ferulic acid. When you add those three together, they're an amazing combination to protect your skin from sun damage and to brighten your skin from sun damage, hyperpigmentation, things like that. It was major when it came out and it's still beloved by a lot of people. But in my opinion, it's not relevant because there's an alternative that's 13 bucks that contains the same ingredients, similar pH, and an awesome formula. If you offer these both to me at the same price, I would buy the other one every single time. I've had some experiences with some not so fresh vitamin C ferulic serum which arrived kind of yellow and not clear, whereas the alternative I've been working on for about a month or so now is still super clear because they manufacture it regularly."

"One of my biggest issues with the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic wasn't the formula, which absolutely had loads of data showing how good it was, but it was that we were paying $130 for a product that a lot of people reported came oxidized. "The skincare community and content creators have held up the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic to almost like a cult-like status saying by far and away it's the best vitamin C you'll ever use however in the past 5 years it's been duped a million times and there are now so many amazing in some cases better formulations at much lower prices."
ITS OVER FOR SKINCEUTICALS - Best Vitamin C Serum For Face
"The main issues that SkinCeuticals and their C E Ferulic is going through at the moment is the ending of some of the patents on the product which opens it up to the wider market, the fact that brands are just brazenly duping the product even if there are patents in place bringing very similar formulations to us the consumer at much lower prices, and the fact that SkinCeuticals product often comes oxidized. This is the main issue. Lots of people online report that when they get their C E Ferulic it's already started to turn like that browny orangey color indicating it's oxidized and not going to be at peak performance. The SkinCeuticals response was it's fine, oxidized vitamin C is still fine, just keep using it. That's really poor when they want you to pay £60 for a serum."

NEXT LEVEL VITAMIN C RESULTS - Best Vitamin C Serum Pairings
"Some of the luxury bougie and high-price vitamin C's arrive oxidized. I'm looking at you Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, and that is not acceptable because oxidized vitamin C, whilst it won't be damaging to the skin, it won't be as effective. And if we're paying out our hard-earned coin we want to be getting the results."

"The main reason I would encourage people to make the switch is because it's not okay for a brand to say oh don't worry about it coming oxidized carry on. That's not okay. I think that should be a wakeup call for a lot of people as to how Skinceuticals see their consumer and the way they want to treat them."
Vitamin C Has Changed Forever - OFFICIAL VITAMIN C HALL OF FAME 2026
"One of my biggest issues with the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic wasn't the formula, which absolutely had loads of data showing how good it was, but it was that we were paying $130 for a product that a lot of people reported came oxidized. That's not okay. It's not okay for a brand charging that much to have it sitting around on a dusty warehouse shelf."

"The SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic serum is a little pricey -- I think it's like $168 or something like that. This gets a lot of clout because it actually has some science to back it: it's going to help stimulate collagen and protect you from the sun as well. But you ain't got to spend all of that much money on the serums and whatnot."

"I use an antioxidant serum, the SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. It's a pretty penny, this is just below $200 for this. However, it does come with some receipts that the vitamin C in here is good for boosting collagen and that it's stabilized with the use of the vitamin E and the ferulic acid in here. However, it was a study funded by L'Oréal. SkinCeuticals is owned by L'Oréal, so they had the money to be able to fund the study, but nonetheless they got the receipts."

"The most well studied formula that has been shown to actually get into the skin and do these things and be stable is the C E Ferulic from Skinceuticals. That's a really expensive product, but in contrast to ascorbic acid it's a lot more no-brainer in terms of the formula. You don't have to worry about the details of the formulation with ascorbic acid, but formulation makes all the difference."

"This is the one I've used the longest. I've been using vitamin C for 13 years now, and this was the first serum I started with. I still use it to this day. It's probably the one I recommend most to my patients. It's a great one if you have more normal to dry skin, maybe a little combination skin, and you're looking for one that delivers results. Of all the patients I've recommended it to, I have not had one come back and say 'I don't like it, I want to return it.' Everybody keeps coming back and repurchasing, and I'm speaking to my patients in clinic. Certainly the price point is expensive, but it is worth every penny."

What a Derm Uses in Fall Updated Skincare Routine for Dry, Sensitive Skin
"My OG vitamin C serum is SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. I use this all year round, especially during the cooler months. It's pricey, but it is really the best-studied vitamin C serum. I still use it throughout the year, definitely into fall and winter, to keep my skin healthier, supporting collagen production and helping with hyperpigmentation. It's a great product to incorporate if you have mature skin and are looking for a good antioxidant product, or one that helps to brighten your skin and support collagen production. The key ingredients are 15% L-ascorbic acid, 1% vitamin E, and 0.5% ferulic acid. This is the first thing that goes on my skin after cleansing."
Budget-friendly Korean Skincare swaps | Dr. Jenny Liu
"This is the most studied vitamin C serum. It's not cheap, it's $182 for 30 ml, and it's not for everyone, especially for the price. Sometimes sensitive skin individuals find it a little more irritating, but it does contain an effective concentration of 15% of pure vitamin C, which is the active form of vitamin C that does all the goodness for our skin, acting as an antioxidant, helping to brighten the skin, and supporting collagen synthesis. It also contains 1% vitamin E, which is a great antioxidant as well, along with 0.5% ferulic acid. So a trio of antioxidants that really help with improving skin texture, skin tone, and antioxidant properties. It's a great one to incorporate if you have the budget into your anti-aging regimen every morning."
Summer skincare routine | Tips from dermatologist, Dr. Jenny Liu
"Skinceuticals C E Ferulic is one that I absolutely use in the summer that I really love. It is actually sweat resistant in the sense that once you apply it on your skin and let it absorb, it really doesn't come off with sweating. And if you use it four days in a row it will saturate your skin, so for people that are on a budget but really want vitamin C, you can stretch it out by using it like every third day or so once you've got that vitamin C saturated onto your skin. Skinceuticals C E Ferulic is the holy grail of mine with the vitamin C, vitamin E, and ferulic acid that is the trio that's been shown and most studied in helping to not only reduce oxidative stress but also improve skin aging concerns like fine lines, wrinkles, and at the same time brighten your skin."

Ultimate Dermatologist- Approved Holiday Gift Guide | Dr. Jenny Liu
"This kit contains the holy grail C E Ferulic that most dermatologists recommend and probably use and it's by far one of my favorite, probably my holy grail vitamin C serum. It is the vitamin C serum that I feel like really started the trend of vitamin C in skincare. And then their Triple Lipid Restore 242 that contains a complex of ratios of ceramides to lipids that really is designed to help nourish and support the skin as we age because the lipids in our skin does change over time. This moisturizer is rich, really ideal for more dry and mature sun damaged skin and actually has been shown in clinical studies to help reduce that retinization period, AKA reduce irritation when one is first starting a topical retinoid."
Dermatologist picks for budget-friendly skincare alternatives | Dr. Jenny Liu
"Vitamin C is super hard to formulate and when it comes to vitamin C serums nothing beats Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic. With regards to the number of publications on its stability as well as its efficacy, Skin Ceuticals has definitely spent years tweaking this formula getting it right with a combination of ingredients and pH to demonstrate its efficacy and stability. This serum contains 15% L-ascorbic acid, 1% vitamin E, and 0.5% ferulic acid at a pH between 2.8 to 3.2 that's been shown to be effective. They've even demonstrated that after the bottle has been open, even when the color changes, it is stable up to 6 months from the date of opening the bottle. Even if you have the same ingredients, if you haven't demonstrated in studies to show that it works the same way or have the same level of efficacy, you can't call vitamin C serums that have the same formula as Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic a dupe."
Dermatologist Travel Skincare | Dr. Jenny Liu
"This is way more important than even bringing a retinol. When we travel, when we're flying, our skin is exposed to way more stronger UV radiation, so it's really essential to protect our skin alongside with sunscreen. This is the best study vitamin C serum, so I make sure that on the days that I travel when I'm flying I apply this to my skin as my morning routine before I hop on the plane and obviously carry this with me for the rest of my trip. This is one essential item that I basically will always have. I mean, I'd rather skip on retinol but will not forget my antioxidant serum."
5 ingredients and products a dermatologist will splurge on | Dr. Jenny Liu
"If I'm going to invest in a serum that I know is going to work, I am certainly going to invest in one that has been studied the most, and the vitamin C serum that has the most clinical and published studies is SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. SkinCeuticals actually holds an exact patent on their C E Ferulic formulation. Just because you have the ingredients doesn't mean ultimately the end product and how it's formulated is going to be the same. To date, there hasn't been a vitamin C serum with similar concentrations that is found in SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic that has been shown to work as well. It's one vitamin C serum that I will splurge on because it's been shown over and over again that it's not only stable but it works."
Dermatologist's favorite Antioxidants & products | Dr. Jenny Liu
"Vitamin C is really finicky, hard to formulate, and go with reputable brands. If you have ever tried this, this is one I highly recommend trying. If you are ever going to splurge on any product from SkinCeuticals, I have never had a patient that ever recommended this to come back saying it did not like it. Certainly vitamin C in pure form is not for everyone because of the acidity and the concentration, it can in general as an ingredient be irritating to certain skin types. So if you have more sensitive skin, dry skin, you may not like it as much. That irritation could flare acne. But in general, if you are interested in trying vitamin C serum and you haven't tried one and you are looking for one that is just the most evidence-based, this is by far the one to use."

"This is hands down the most studied evidence backed vitamin C that exists on this Market period. It's really the OG that started the trend of antioxidant vitamin C serums that offer so much benefit aside from just being an antioxidant. It also helps you brighten your skin, supports collagen, and obviously offers additional protection against UV damage and sun damage on your skin, so it's a really great anti-aging product. Ingredient wise it has 15% L-ascorbic acid pure vitamin C at a pH that's formulated to be stable along with 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid. They're truly the OG vitamin C that pairs all three, and this is one that I highly recommend."

Dermatologist's experience with Dual Faxel Laser | Dr. Jenny Liu
"The C E Ferulic RX serum is my holy grail. It's got the patented 15% vitamin C along with 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid. What I love most is that it actually has been shown and demonstrated in clinical studies to pair well with not only the fractional laser but also the ablative CO2 laser to improve wound healing so very quickly. The day after my laser, I put on my C E Ferulic and then the rescue MD serum again."
Tips for transitioning skincare from winter to spring and summer | Dr. Jenny Liu
"The most studied vitamin C serum certainly is not cheap but is definitely one worth the splurge. It's got 15% pure vitamin C, that is really a good concentration that's effective, along with 1% vitamin E and 0.5% ferulic acid. It's really the combination that ideal trio of antioxidants pair together to offer not only protection against UV but as well as damage from visible light and pollution. So highly recommend if you're looking for a good vitamin C serum, especially if your concerns are on skin texture, skin tone, and anti-aging."
Holiday Gift Set Ideas | Dr Jenny Liu
"C E Ferulic from Skin Ceuticals is my Holy Grail vitamin C serum. This is the other product that I've been using the longest in my routine for over 12 plus years, aside from moisturizer and sunscreen of course. This is really my OG antioxidant serum, one that I cannot live without. Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic has the most studied number of studies really on this product, more than any other antioxidant serum that exists on the market. Really all the other vitamin C's that contain this triad blend of vitamin C, E, and ferulic acid, I would say it's probably inspired to a degree by this version from Skin Ceuticals. So really, hands down, it's the best. Skin Ceuticals does really invest in research, so you're getting high quality skincare that does deliver amazing results. The benefit of vitamin C antioxidant serum is a great pair to your retinol at night for anyone that is wanting to prevent or reduce the signs of skin aging. Vitamin C really helps to protect the skin against UV and environmental damage, also helps to brighten and improve uneven skin tone and hyperpigmentation. Vitamin C is also necessary when it comes to supporting collagen."

"The classic vitamin C that everyone thinks about is SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, the hot dog sauce or the hot dog water. It is an OG. It is active vitamin C, L-ascorbic acid. "The active form of vitamin C is called ascorbic acid, kind of like in Skinceuticals C E Ferulic, but not everybody can tolerate ascorbic acid. If you have sensitive skin it might actually inflame some of your acne marks and turn them even more red, which might make them more brown in the long run. So if you're sensitive, look for a vitamin C ester instead of the active form. If you're not sensitive, knock yourself out with the active form, but just be careful marrying the active form to the next ingredient because it can be irritating because they are both quite aggressive."

And this patented stabilization system has made it super effective over the years. But here's the tea: in March 2025, they lost their patent."

6 Retinol Myths Debunked! How to CORRECTLY Use Retinoids | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"L ascorbic acid is the active form of vitamin C and the most irritating form of vitamin C when you combine that with an irritating ingredient whether it is an exfoliating acid or a retinol or whatever it is it's going to have the potential of being slightly more irritating together and if you are sensitive you probably do not want to combine the two. The bigger reality is that vitamin C is not vitamin C across the board this is where formulation matters."

And there is still a very large percent, I would say 50% or greater, that cannot tolerate L-ascorbic acid and they find it very irritating to their skin and they just completely cannot use it. "SkinCeuticals really takes advantage of a 30-year-old formula that's now out of patent that costs a dollar to make in really cheap 40 cents packaging that sells for $180 and they continue to raise the price. At $180, you can go get microneedling done or a laser procedure done. I just don't like that style, that they're gutting their customers instead of coming out with something better."
Is Vitamin C Worth The HYPE?? | Doctorly Investigates
"Skin Ceuticals C E Ferulic, they did all the research, people love it, people swear by it. My skin tolerates it fine. I like the aesthetics, it's like watery, not super drippy, not super greasy. The body's good. I love the bread smell of vitamin C. I think I just had a net positive experience that I've conditioned myself to enjoy that. It's an acquired taste, some people call it bread, some people call it hot dog water, some people hate the smell of this product. But for some people it's very irritating. I actually have a lot of patients that will tell me that they bought the Skin Ceuticals vitamin C and a high percentage maybe like 30% of people don't react well to it. The other thing about this product I do believe is that people are more likely to stick with it over other products."
Best And Worst Of Skinceuticals
"This is locked in as like the standard of what vitamin C looks, smells and feels like. It's definitely one of the stronger smelling vitamin C products out there and quite polarizing, but the advantage of that is that it is fragrance-free and it is optimized for absorption into the skin and they do hold the patent on this particular formulation. For me personally this product doesn't agree well with my skin. I don't know why I've tried it a million times, my wife loves this product, for me it just irritates my skin. I even break out sometimes when I use it. So for some people this is going to be a grail, and this is if you're intro to the brand and you want to stick with any product that has the most research behind it, then it would be this one. They even have studies that show that this is a really beneficial product postprocedurally, meaning that if you were to get microneedling done or laser done you could apply this and it would help with healing times. For me personally I find this to be an irritating product, so I think with a compromised skin barrier it would be something that would not agree well. I wouldn't use something that has high potent actives like this with super low pH because I think it would be quite uncomfortable even if it does help repair the skin faster."

Is It Better Than High Street Skincare? Doctor Recommends
"I always talk about SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic for vitamin C. I always think it's worth spending the money on a SkinCeuticals because they've done a lot in this formula to preserve the activity of vitamin C. Vitamin C is a highly unstable compound and it can become an oxidant very quickly, and it can become almost like damaging to the skin if you expose it to air too much. This formulation is a very stable formulation. You can get vitamin C from high street stuff but it might not be good quality vitamin C, the ingredients, the raw materials, might not be good. But with this, it's manufactured by L'Oreal, they've got high standards and you know that it's good quality stuff. It is quite expensive though."

"I've always said that these are the best vitamin C serums you can apply onto your skin. It's a powerful antioxidant serum, it contains vitamin C and E, it prevents collagen destruction, and it's suitable for normal to dry skin types. With this product you don't need to use it a lot. I simply apply three to five drops into each finger of my hand, touch my fingers together, and gently pat them into my skin. This allows me to spread the serum evenly to my whole face. You should always apply this in the morning before any other moisturizers or products in order to get the best results, because you should always use the thinnest product first and work your way up to the thickest."
Doctor's Guide to Radiant Skincare: Crafting Your Routine
"My favorite vitamin C is SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, of course. Vitamin C is at a very high price point but it's the highest quality grade vitamin C. The problem that you have with vitamin C is that it degrades quickly. It's a fantastic antioxidant that's great for redness, great for pigmentation, great for even anti-aging benefits as well, but in certain formulations it doesn't stay stable for long enough. If there's one thing that you should invest a little bit of money in, it's definitely going to be on a high quality vitamin C, obviously without things like perfume which will sensitize the skin, but something that's going to stay active for longer is going to be a good option."
How to Treat Pigmentation | What is Pigmentation? | Dr. Somji's Treatments for Pigmentation
"Vitamin C is really important. There are many different forms of vitamin C, and one of the most stable forms that you can see is with Skinceuticals C E Ferulic. It's like their superstar product. I went to a skincare course, and that's their hero product, that's what they gave in the goodie bag afterwards, that's what they sell loads of because the ingredient that sits in there is probably one of the most stable vitamin C's. Vitamin C has got so many different benefits: antioxidants, helps with pigmentation, decreases redness, and can also in certain studies help improve collagen as well. So for an all-around benefit, vitamin C is fantastic."

"Vitamin C is the most popular antioxidant in skincare and most big skincare lines have a vitamin C serum, but there was a study that found that if you combine vitamin C with vitamin E you can get a synergistic effect, and what that means is that their antioxidant abilities are actually much greater when you combine vitamin C and E than when you use them separately. This is why Skinceuticals C E Ferulic is one of the most popular vitamin C serums of all time."

I have been using this on and off for several years now and every time I use it I always love my experience. It does have that 15% L-ascorbic acid, it also has ferulic acid and vitamin E. It still has that thin watery texture but this one does have a little bit of a thickness to the formulation, so it's very moisturizing and my skin feels comfortable for the entire day."

"If you love this keep using it, but this is $160. This one actually has fragrance and I don't recommend this for a lot of people because their skin can't handle fragrance, but you mentioned that you love it. It does have other fragrances and it's just a different formula."

"When brands say that they have a vitamin C serum they don't always distinguish exactly what vitamin C they're using. For me I always look for the gold standard which is ascorbic acid. The reason why vitamin C is even a thing in skin care today is because of SkinCeuticals. They made the original formula which is their C E Ferulic with 15% ascorbic acid and all the studies to show what this can do for your skin and how it benefits your skin. Ascorbic acid is the most powerful antioxidant and it's in a form that your skin recognizes and can use. It will protect your skin from the environmental aggressors that tend to cause aging. This has also been shown to really help with collagen synthesis. We want to keep that collagen good and keep it synthesizing. For me personally though I just really love the skin brightening and the glow that is something that I noticed almost immediately when I started using this. I was hooked from that point on. It definitely has had some impact also with just evening and correcting some of the pigmentation and sun damage I have. While this is the OG formula it is pricey."

"I got a little sample as part of the kit and I really really liked it but am I going to repurchase it I'm not. I mean I choose to spend money in certain categories and this just isn't one of them. I think there's so many really good vitamin C serums out there that cost a fraction of the price. I'm not going to purchase it again but I enjoyed it, it was nice."

"Step two is non-negotiable for me: it has to be a vitamin C, and you'll not be surprised to know that I use the gold standard, which is SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic. I know, I know, it's expensive. This is 15% L-ascorbic acid with ferulic acid and vitamin E. A lot of people don't like the smell; I've just got over it. I've used it since it was launched, it's probably 12 years now. I swear it's one of the reasons my pigmentation and my sun damage isn't as bad as it is, but I get that it's expensive. It's a pure L-ascorbic acid, so it's the active form of vitamin C, meaning your skin doesn't have to work hard to access what it needs. It gives you an antioxidant boost, boosts collagen production, protects your skin from pollution, and boosts the effect of your SPF. It's just clinically proven. Dr. Sheldon Pinnell was the person who started SkinCeuticals and did all the research on topical vitamin C and skin, and it's a gold standard for that reason."

"The tried and true SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic has tons of data and research backing up its efficacy, but this package is pretty big and you really do want to go through your vitamin C within about three months because of that instability."
