What the gurus are saying

The smooth, gel-like texture earns praise for feeling like a balm without the heaviness typical of lip masks. Gurus who tested it found it genuinely pleasant to use, though not many have weighed in yet, so there is not much to go on so far.

"I like it a lot. It is very thick. It's pretty sticky, like not so sticky that it's annoying but it's going to stick to the lips. [...] It's very [...] moisturizing. One of my favorite ways to use this is I'll apply a light amount of hyaluronic acid on my lips and then go in with this to kind of trap it, and my lips feel so moisturized afterwards. [...] If you're looking for something that's really thick that's going to stick and stay in place throughout the night, it's nice."

"These are beautiful. The texture is like this smooth, almost like gel jelly. It's a balm. It's that lip mask texture without being heavy. I don't like heavy lip balms that feel like you got something on your lip and you're just like, all the time. I'm wearing it now and it kind of just looks like a lip gloss. And I'm going to keep it on because my lips are extremely dry. So I chose the shade Tint because it's very universal in terms of its shade. Looks beautiful on all skin tones."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
