What the gurus are saying

Gurus are split. Dr Dray praises it as an effective, fragrance-free clay mask that rinses cleanly and works well on oily areas. Kelly Driscoll reports severe skin burning that worsened with repeated use and flags the presence of farnesol, a fragrant ingredient with high irritation potential, as problematic for a product marketed to compromised skin barriers. The core divide hinges on tolerability and ingredient choice.

"I put the mask on after I got out of my bath and my skin feels like it's on fire. My skin is really burning. I've used this mask so many times, but my skin is increasingly on fire, and so I just washed the mask off within just a few minutes. I could not keep it on my face. My skin was burning so bad. I went back and looked at the ingredients the next day and right at the bottom there's an ingredient called farnesol. This is one of those fragrant ingredients that carry such a potent irritation potential that it has to be listed separately. Why is it in a product that is marketed for a compromised skin barrier? When your skin barrier is a little bit weak or damaged, it's very vulnerable, so why are they putting this in there?"

"It's a really nice clay mask. You apply it to clean skin after cleansing, you can put it on the entire face or just to more problematic areas like the T-Zone, hang out for about 10 minutes and then it rinses off easily. It's fragrance-free."
