What the gurus are saying

Gurus unanimously praise Sculptra as an excellent long-term volumizer, especially for hollowed temples, cheeks, and jawlines, because it triggers natural collagen production rather than adding foreign material. The consistent trade-off: results take three to six months to appear and require multiple sessions, but last two-plus years with minimal downtime and a natural look. The main drawback is it can cause significant swelling, bruising, and bumps initially, and aggressive injection risks fat loss. Gurus stress it works best for people with genuine volume loss rather than fine-line correction, and recommend it only from board-certified providers.

"Sculptra is a great option for adding volume into certain parts of your face."

Rating Cosmetic Treatments From 1-10 With My Aesthetician!
"I would give Sculptra an 8 out of 10. I think it's a great volumizer for the face. We use it oftentimes in the temples and like the cheek hollows. You can also do the cheeks with it. It lasts two to two plus years. It's a biostimulator. I think it's good because it's a natural biostimulator, not filler. So you're not going to have that risk of being overfilled or looking unnatural from it. The negative of it is the results are still modest. You're not going to get a facelift out of it. But the positive is usually minimal downtime, especially if you add the exosomes on top of it. Just do it safely. Make sure that whoever's doing it, they don't do it overly aggressively because you can potentially lose fat if it's done too aggressively."
Brian Johnson Biohacks His Face Younger! Plastic Surgeon Reacts!
"The first thing I did is Sculptra, which is a biostimulator. It's injected into certain regions of the face, for example the temples, right around the mouth, through here. It's designed to allow your body to naturally produce collagen. Sculptra has been around for a very long time. It's composed of poly lactic acid, which is kind of similar to what we make absorbable sutures out of, and the idea behind Sculptra is that it comes as a powder, we mix that powder with sterile water, and then inject that mixture under areas of the skin that creates a biostimulating effect to create collagen in those areas that it's injected. I've been doing Sculptra injections for over 20 years, and it was first FDA approved for people who have HIV lipodystrophy. When people have HIV and they're on HIV medications, often times they would lose fat in the face, and this was a very early treatment to help regain some of that lost volume. Well, it's been used cosmetically once again for over 20 years. It is a very gradual biostimulating filler, and in my practice we use it mainly for the temples and the cheek hollows."

"If you are considering filler injections, please only have them done in the office of a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon and only get fillers that are either hyaluronic acid based fillers like Restylane or Juvederm or Sculptra injections. I don't recommend any of the other fillers that are on the market."

"Sculptra is an injectable treatment composed of polylactic acid, which is a bio-stimulatory material. In contrast to hyaluronic acid fillers, Sculptra does not provide immediate volume. Instead, the way it works is by stimulating your body's own production of collagen over time. It does this specifically by activating fibroblasts in the deeper layers of the skin, the dermis. So results develop gradually over months to years. Treatment usually involves several sessions. Because of the way it works, Sculptra is often used to address age-related loss of volume in the face to improve overall skin quality and to help support long-term collagen structure. It's important to understand that Sculptra is not a spot filler. Meaning, say for example, you have a little depression in the skin, maybe from an ice pick acne scar, Sculptra is not going to spot fill that. It's not meant for precise correction of fine lines."

10 WAYS TO TIGHTEN LOOSE SAGGY SKIN | Dermatologist
"It's a type of filler, poly lactic acid. In contrast to other fillers which are hyaluronic acid, poly lactic acid is actually what is in dissolvable sutures. The way it works is it's placed in the skin and over time it stimulates collagen production and has a tightening effect. It's a great option for filling in hollow cheeks, it can help in terms of improving sagginess along the jowl area in the neck, it's also an option for body contouring in select patients, it can improve the appearance of cellulite just by space filling and stimulating collagen production. The nice thing about Sculptra is that the results are long lasting. In contrast to, like, hyaluronic acid filler, you don't really see the improvement right away. It takes several months because the process is stimulating collagen. It's called a biostimulatory filler, takes about four to six months to really start to see an improvement, but it is long lasting. I think that is a very underrated minimally invasive option."

"Sculptra is a bio stimulator that works on a deeper level and it basically works with hollows. If you're hollowed here, that's where it would go. The biggest thing about Sculptra is that it actually takes three months for it to cook, to be ready after I put it in initially. It takes three months for you to see the results and they're epic."

"Sculptra is having a resurgence right now because they're throwing in areas that we never thought about like the scalp to give the ponytail lift. Collagen is primarily produced with Sculptra and your Hyperdriadius, that's going to be collagen type one and type three primarily found in the dermis, and then elastin. The studies have said on both companies that they do produce elastin. Sculptra is only going to help you produce collagen one and three and elastin."

"I like Sculptra. I love the way it kind of lays a framework for those fibroblasts to come in and create our own collagen. I think that's really the way of the future, whatever can stimulate our own skin to make the good stuff. I think that's kind of where we're headed. Instead of having something that's fake in there, it's just my own body making stuff, slightly better. Something about it, it's real, it's mine."

"Sculptra, polylactic acid, is a biostimulatory filler. Even though it's injected similarly on the face as one would with HA fillers, it differs slightly in this sense: with traditional HA fillers you basically get what you see, when it's injected into skin it's there, it's instant aside from some swelling. But with biostimulatory fillers, as the name implies, they don't really give you that instant gratification. Instead they help to stimulate your skin, your body to build collagen over time, usually over a period of like three to six months. But they do help with the flattening of our facial features, helping with the deep folds, the wrinkles. It's not like one is better than the other. Honestly, for someone who is seeking dermal fillers in general for kind of rejuvenation, improving signs of aging, biostimulatory as well as HA fillers really complement each other and give you a more comprehensive and better result."

"It is a bio stimulator meaning it's going to help trigger your own skin's natural healing and rejuvenation process. It helps to stimulate collagen production by stimulating your fibroblasts, which are the cells that are responsible for producing collagen and elastin, so it helps increase your collagen production. It can be extremely painful in certain areas and can lead to intense swelling and bruising, and this one can really leave big bumps and welts. But it has benefits because it's been done for now nearly a decade."

How to Tighten Saggy Skin from a Dermatologist! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"Sculptra is an injectable that we've had on the market since the early '90s. It was created for people with HIV who lost all the fat in their face and were basically looking gaunt like they were sinking, and we noticed that Sculptra has a value add for people who've lost volume in their face. So if you are sagging because you've lost volume, certain biostimulatory fillers like Sculptra can be helpful. Additionally, if you do not want to get married to Sculptra because it is quite an investment in terms of time and money, hyaluronic acid fillers can also be helpful."

"Stimulants like Sculptra are great if you are a sinker and you have no volume. Sculptra will replace volume and pick up your skin in the process over time. This is a great option for people who are also very skinny who can never do fat transfers to their face because they don't have enough fat on their face or their body to help pick up that soft tissue."

"Sculptra the skin actually thickens up a little bit and you can get a little bit more natural looking fullness. Sculptra is a great injectable for people who are sinkers because you can kind of use it throughout the face to just add a little bit of volume without making it look like the patient is puffy. I have had Sculptra in my temples because that's an area that gets quite hollow in people as they get older, and I don't have like a huge filled out temple now. I'm not trying to look like a light bulb head either. I don't want to add too much volume because I feel like that becomes detectable. I'm just trying to restore a little bit. I also have a little bit of Sculptra just like right through this area here so that I don't get too hollow and it's not going to be perfect and I'm not trying to look perfect. I'm just trying to restore volume in areas that I tend to lose it so that I look more just like myself and more refreshed."

What is Sculptra? Dermatologist Explains Sculptra Face Injections & Treatment Tips | Dr. Sam Ellis
"So many of my patients opt for Sculptra treatments because it looks incredibly natural. No one is ever going to look at you and go, did you have a Sculptra treatment? They also really like the fact that it's based on their own collagen, so this is their own collagen to keep once you make it. Sculptra results last for two or more years after you have your injections. I find patients actually look the best when their Sculptra injections are combined with other anti-aging cosmetic procedures. There's a balance between Botox or other neuromodulator injections and Sculptra and hyaluronic acid-based fillers and resurfacing. They all play their role, and when they're used appropriately and correctly in the right patient, it's beautiful."

What is Sculptra? Dermatologist Explains Sculptra Face Injections & Treatment Tips | Dr. Sam Ellis
"Sculptra has an incredibly high satisfaction rate if you do the recommended amount. I often have patients who say they did it five years ago and it did absolutely nothing, but when I find out they only had one or two sessions when they really needed three full sessions to see the result they wanted. In addition to getting that collagen support with Sculptra, people will notice that their skin looks a little bit more luminous, which is called the Sculptra glow, and they'll have a little bit of decreased laxity or sagging, so for a lot of my patients who are just starting to see an early jowl, Sculptra is a great option. The other thing is Sculptra doesn't just have to be used in the face because it adds natural looking volume and enhances tissue quality. You can use it in other places like the upper inner arm and in the buttocks to enlarge the buttocks without doing a fat transfer. Sculptra can also be used in the chest to improve skin quality there and help with those vertical wrinkles that a lot of women notice over time. You have to be so patient with your Sculptra treatments because it really can take months to see those amazing results."

"One of the differences between Sculptra and the hyaluronic acid fillers is that with the HA fillers you can see some immediate results, but if you go a little ham with the HA fillers you are able to dissolve them. However, with Sculptra there is a delicate tangle because the results are gradual over time, so if a person goes to ham in the initial injection, over time that could look a mess and you can't dissolve the Sculptra. With Sculptra you definitely need to make sure you go to someone who specializes in it and has receipts that they have done an amazing job with lots of people because the last thing you want is to get jacked up with the Sculptra and then you got to live with that for a year until it eventually goes away. Sculptra is typically used for larger areas that need volume."

"Sculptra comes as a powder, it's a collagen stimulator that produces, essentially stimulates your body to produce more collagen so you can get an increase in skin thickness and you can use it in other areas of the face and you can sometimes get an increase in volume. You can dilute it more for the under-eye area in a delicate setting. It's injected underneath the eye area and it just stimulates a little bit of collagen improvement in volume. Personally in my practice I don't really do it so much, but it's something that's really popular in Asia. I prefer poly nuzes because they're a lot safer."

You can also inject it in the fat layer to also generate a bit of natural plumping within the fat layer and you can also inject it underneath the skin to give it a bit more skin contraction."

"Sculptra is made of something called PLA, polylactic acid, which sits in the skin and promotes both type one and type two collagen. It's made of the same material that surgical sutures are made of, the dissolvable stitches. If you inject it deeper in the fat, it promotes volume, particularly in areas like the temple region to help lift the brow and the sub cheek area. But injected in the skin at the lower levels, it promotes collagen and skin tightness. It's like an injectable that will actually do nearly everything and it lasts really long, so you're seeing results for even up to two years after the treatment. I've seen over the years that nowadays I'm starting to inject patients with this first rather than fillers."
