What the gurus are saying

This cleanser leaves skin feeling clean without that depleted, stripped sensation that often follows a thorough wash. It applies as a firm cream that builds into a dense lather, and both dermatologists and cosmetic chemists who tested it praise how effectively it removes makeup and impurities while respecting the skin barrier. The consensus is that people can rely on it for a satisfying cleanse without worry.

"This is a low pH cleanser, a lot better to use as a second cleanser because it doesn't drip oil and leaves my skin less tight. It has stronger cleansing power, and after using it my skin feels a lot more breathing. If you're sensitive or more dry mature skin this is a good option. If you want more cleansing power, this is the one that works better."

"This is a very mild, low pH cleanser, it contains ingredients to help moisturize and calm your skin, however it doesn't cleanse as well, I don't think it will erase sunscreen, it only removes sweat or dirt from outside so you can only use it as a second cleanser or as a morning cleanser. It has a scent, and it's very thick so you have to squeeze it too hard. I bought this because it was all over TikTok, it was even hard to buy because of that. It's a really transparent light gel, very light formulation, colorless and odorless. This is the most disappointing cleanser because it doesn't cleanse anything, it feels just like a feminine cleanser, it's so mild you can't actually cleanse with it."

"Oh my god, this is my least preferred product from Round Lab. The scent is too uncomfortable, and it's also difficult to use for a deep cleanse, it's never enough for oily combo skin. This is also a low pH cleanser, which is a very trendy theme in K beauty right now, but that doesn't mean all low pH cleansers are amazing. Some reviews say people break out after using this, so be careful. If you already have it, use it as a second cleanser or a morning cleanser, because again it doesn't really deep cleanse. I'm not going to buy this again."

"I know if they go in with this, they're going to do a great job and they're going to enjoy the cleanse and it's not going to leave their face feeling stripped. Because a lot of times if you have a really thorough cleanser, your skin feels a bit depleted afterward. And that doesn't happen with this at all. This is 10 out of 10."

"This Roundlab cleanser, it's so good. I was initially drawn to it because it's like a nice big package, but I wasn't like, 'Oh, wow, this looks super sexy or interesting.' But I had heard good things about it from a friend. And when I tried it, I was blown away because it is so good at removing makeup, which it's really hard to find a cleanser that's great at removing makeup but also really gentle. And I think because it has this nice combination of glycerin in here, which is really hydrating, and ceramides, which are very supportive of the skin barrier, but then some super great surfactants that help break down makeup, oil, dirt, etc. It just nails the balance for me. If you want a great one and done cleanser, to me, this is like a must try. So when I finish cleansing with this, my skin feels incredibly clean. It's not like squeaky clean and stripped, but I do then crave going in with some type of hydrating or moisturizing product."

"Round Lab has a lot of different cleansing options and this one is by far my favorite. They have their cleansing oil but that one has some essential oils in it so I don't love it, especially for sensitive skin. If you have sensitive skin I would technically recommend avoiding that one. But their all-purpose general cleanser does a really nice job and doesn't leave your skin feeling dry or flaky. It's a good second step cleanser but it can't remove most makeup and sunscreen things like that."

"My favorite one is their 1025 Dokdo Cleanser. It has no scent to it, it's really wonderful, very gentle but effective, and a little bit of it goes a long way. It's a really nice gentle cleanser, it's really worth checking out, especially if you have sensitive skin or dry skin."

"The Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleanser is fragrance-free and does a pretty good job. It cleanses things without stripping it, and it's pretty friendly for oily skin types and probably for dry, sensitive skin as well. Round Lab is some really nice cleansing options and this one in my opinion is worth trying."

"Another cleanser that I tried and have really been enjoying and has worked itself into my regular skincare routine is this one from Round Lab, it's their 1025 Dokdo Cleanser and this is just really soothing, really calming, really hydrating, great little cleanser. It does foam up a little bit, which I normally don't like cleansers that foam at all, but this uses the mildest surfactant. It's actually got the same surfactant in it that my Orb shampoo uses. And look at the size of this tube, this is roughly 5 oz and I think it's like under $20, so this is a really good value. I always do the opening my eyes test with any cleanser and I can open my eyes with this while I'm using it and there's no stinging, there's no burning in the eyes."

"This is the Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleanser and I really enjoyed using this one. It produces a dense creamy foam that feels really luxurious, but it doesn't leave your skin with that stripped squeaky feeling of an impaired barrier. It contains three forms of hyaluronic acid, ceramide NP, panthenol, and allantoin to support the skin barrier while cleansing. It lathers beautifully, does an excellent job removing dirt, oil, and cosmetic residue, and rinses away efficiently without leaving behind any residue or leaving the skin feeling dry or irritated."

"I've seen so many people raving about this cleanser, and it's lived up to the hype. It is a really nice cleanser. It comes out quite firm and it forms a really nice dense lather and it didn't strip my skin much at all."

"This is a really nice cleanser that gives lots of dense foam but it still has a low pH. It uses isothuanate and toroid, which are surfactants that tend to give the sort of foam texture but they don't need to be formulated at high pH. Having a mix of lots of different surfactants makes mixed micelles which are gentler on skin. This cleanser also has a whole bunch of really nice hydrating ingredients like glycerin, hyaluronic acid, allantoin, panthenol, and ceramides, and this compensates for the stripping that comes from cleansing. I really like this cleanser, it's really gentle and that seal really does bump it up, so I'm going to put it into Holy Grail, and I think this will work for most people's skin."

"If you have sensitive or reactive skin but you also want a cleansing experience that delivers a lot of moisture, the Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Cleanser is awesome for you. I didn't use this for a long time. I know it was very famous and I had seen it when I had gone to Korea, but I just never actually gave it a shot until recently. And now I understand why people like it so much. Not only is it an incredible price point, but I really feel like it's a good, simple cleanser if you're someone who struggles with dry skin. You want a good, gentle cleansing experience that delivers really good Korean skincare ingredients like betalucan, hyaluronic acid, amino acids, but not get an overly foamy or stripping experience. If you're looking for a good cleanser to start out your teenagers with or you're brand new to skincare, this is an awesome cleanser to use because it's just very simple, very affordable. You can get it for a great price point on Style Vana. A little bit goes a long way. You do not need to use much at all. And it's just a great cleanser that does what it's supposed to do. Very gentle, good for sensitive skin and for replenishing hydration and just doing what a cleanser is supposed to do."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Ceramides

Ceramides are part of the skin's own barrier, and moisturisers built around them have evidence for holding water in and settling the tightness and flaking that come with a damaged barrier.

Source: DermNet

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
