What the gurus are saying

This lipstick earns strong marks for staying power and comfort; it doesn't bleed into lip lines and stains deeply, which means the colour lasts well through the day. The formula feels silky as it settles, though the shade Melanie splits opinion, some find it a gorgeous coraly red, while others find it leans a touch too orange. That makes it worth swatching in person if the coral-to-red balance matters to you.

"The shade is called Melanie and it is just a gorgeous coraly red. [...] I love it because it stays put. It's a red that doesn't run up into my lip lines whether I wear a lip liner with it or not. It is a gorgeous lipstick. This stains your lips and it really lasts. This is a very, very long lasting lipstick and one that I highly recommend."
Mixed
"The formulation feels so good on my lips. It feels nice on my face, feels nice on my skin. Everything feels really good. [...] As it starts to absorb into my lips, it's becoming one with the lips, which makes it a little nicer. I'm not sure about the color Melanie though. It's a bit orangey. I like a bit of orange, I like the coraly side versus the pinky side, but I'm not sure if this is too much. I'm on the fence about the color."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
