  • Affordable compared to luxury foundations

What they flagged

  • Shade range reads too dark and peachy for some

What the gurus are saying

One reviewer found this foundation delivers a natural, lightweight finish that wears well throughout the day without settling into wrinkles, and praises its value as an affordable alternative to higher-end options. However, another reviewer experienced shade issues, finding their undertone too dark and peachy for their skin, which affected the overall makeup look. Patch-testing in your usual lighting and confirming your undertone match may help determine if it works for your complexion.

"Just wanted something light and luminescent. Is this expired? You know when you have a bad pistachio? That's what this smells like. You know how the Revlon foundations and then also like the MAC foundations, they usually smell like paint, like fresh paint. This doesn't smell like that. It smells like a bad pistachio. I think we're going to pivot because I don't want to ruin my face."

"The more I wear this foundation the more I think it looks too dark and too peach. I don't know, it's just making the overall look of my makeup kind of strange. I wish I'd gone with the yellow one."

"The makeup I use this year is the Revlon Illuminance Foundation. This is a really good one with my normal good wear sunscreen. This lasts on my skin for a good 8 to 10 hours solid with no wearing off and no settling into wrinkles."

Beauty Faves + Fails! Makeup, Skincare, Self Tanners! May 2023
"I've really been loving this Revlon Illuminance Skin Caring Foundation. It is so beautiful and I really thought was a really close dupe for my number one, Chanel, and this is a $75 foundation and it looks beautiful on the skin. It looks so natural and so skin-like and you can't even really tell that you're wearing makeup. This is like a perfect dupe for it. It wears the same, it's got skincare and skin-loving ingredients in it, but it's a fraction of the cost. I think this is like $17 and this is $75, so really a much, much better price point. It just looks so nice and natural and it doesn't look like heavy makeup sitting on the skin. It plays well with others, it wears all day long, it doesn't settle in wrinkles, so really a great new foundation."

"It's very similar to the Chanel, they're both like a skincare foundation hybrid with hydrating ingredients and botanical ingredients, and they have a lot of the same ingredients in common. They both look and wear so beautifully on the skin. In a dupes video I had these on side by side and you could not tell the difference, actually most people guessed wrong and guessed this side as the high-end side. It really is a beautiful foundation. Like all the foundations that I love, it doesn't settle in my wrinkles, wears all day, and makes my skin look more youthful and better than it is and is nice and natural looking on the skin. So I love this one too, and this was a great new find in 2023."

"This is the Revlon Illuminance Skin Caring Foundation I have the shade 117. This has a really beautiful luminous finish to it. I honestly forgot how pretty this was. It's definitely very very glowy so if you're not into a super glowy foundation this might not be for you but if you like skin care and extra glow in your complexion products I feel like this is a great drugstore option."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
