What they flagged

  • Leaves a filmy coating in the mouth
  • Tastes unpleasant

What the gurus are saying

The balm splits sharply: some gurus praise its lightweight, hydrating texture that feels like a lotion rather than a waxy ointment and holds moisture all day without constant reapplication, while others found it left a filmy, greasy coating in the mouth and performed no better than basic Vaseline. Those with persistently dry lips and sensitivity to fragrance or flavorants may find the formula worth trying; those bothered by residue or expecting dramatic results may want to skip it.

"My only fail from Remedy, I didn't like their lip treatment."

"I can't do it. So for me, it just leaves the key thing a Lip Balm has to have. It can't have that film that like after you're done talking or if you're drinking something, it can't have that film that kind of coats the inside of your mouth by accident. And that's what the remedy does for me personally."

"It's thinner than both the Rei and the Dr. Whitney Bose. And honestly, it has kind of a funny taste. It's got that filmy texture to it. This is a terrible Lip Balm. It leaves the greasiest film in your mouth and this terrible taste and it's kind of hard to spread. Unfortunately, the remedy for lips is an absolute zero for me."

"I did not find this moisturizing. I felt this worked just like Vaseline. Like given all of these ingredients, it didn't do anything extra. I had to apply, reapply, and constantly do all kinds of things with it as I have to do with Vaseline. So for me, this is a complete miss. Four on 10, maybe five. This one needs a redo."

"Remedy Remedy for Dry Lips is an all-in-one lip treatment. I am using this every night before bed for a while now. My lips are on point. So smooth. They're not peeling. It's so good. This has peptides, ceramide, squalane in it. It goes on really easily. It's so moisturizing. I've been slathering this on before I go to bed, and it really has been a remedy for dry lips."

Testing 100 Lips Balms - BEST LIP BALMS 2024
"I've been so impressed with the Lip Balm because it really does nourish, hydrate, come soothe and it's another one of those lip balms that lasts all day long. You don't need to be reapplying this on the hour every hour like some really cheap poorly formulated lip balms. This just works and I love it. I expected nothing less from Dr. Shah because his advice is amazing but he really delivered when it came to this product. [...] If you want to try something new to the market that kind of just ticks all the boxes, I really think that Remedy Lip Balm is something quite special."

"Remedy for healthy aging, which is the product that I use. It's like retinol, exfoliating acids, peptides. [...] I love this product. Everybody I know, this super high repurchase rate, people love this product, and it's just super moisturizing for people that are in their late 20s, early 30s and beyond that want that moisturizing effect. It's a beautiful product."

"I use the Remedy Dry Lips from Remedy Skin. This product is a targeted treatment for repairing and hydrating dry lips. Its ultra nourishing formula is infused with skin restored ingredients that help heal and protect the delicate lip area while locking in the moisture for lasting comfort. It contains things like HA acid which will deeply hydrate and plump lips by retaining the moisture, has some shea butter which will soothe and soften the lips with its rich emollient properties, beeswax that will create a protective barrier and seal that hydration, and then vitamin E which is an antioxidant to help repair damage and provide additional nourishment. I find that this instantly relieves dryness and discomfort, soothes and softens the lip surface, it helps restore natural moisture barrier for long-lasting hydration and it also protects against environmental aggressors like cold weather, wind and things like that. It is also suitable for AM and PM. It is dermatologist tested, free from parabens and artificial fragrances. You can use it by itself or maybe if you're going out and you just want a hydrating base underneath your lipstick, it's perfect for both."

"I've been trying it out daily, using it multiple times a day to really give it a good test. [...] It is a good product for dry lips. It has ceramides which are good for the moisture barrier, squalane and jojoba, it has peptides which are hydrating, and it has petrolatum which helps to reduce water loss. [...] It goes on almost like you're putting a lotion on your lips. [...] It's not a greasy ointment, it absorbs pretty quickly into the skin of the lips, and I did find that it helped my lips stay soft, moisturized, hydrated. It's free of fragrance and flavorant, which are important to note because those in lip balms are common causes of lip irritation, lip dryness, and common allergens in lip balms. This is a good option for keeping the lips hydrated, smooth, supple."

"This is probably for me my favorite product from the brand. [...] I'm really into lip balms that don't just moisturize your lips but actually hydrate your lips as well. There's something to this Lip Balm that feels like it happens in two stages. So you put it on and it feels kind of almost watery, like there's a real slip to it, there's a real glide. It feels like you're putting like a watery serum on your lips, and then when you're done, your lips feel nourished and moisturized but all of that's going to be locked in without it being overly occlusive. It feels like a diluted Vaseline in the sense that it's almost like a hydrating toner meets Vaseline. [...] You have petroleum, squalane and Shea Butter, which is what you would expect to find in a Lip Balm, ceramides especially nowadays, which makes sense for it to be in a Lip Balm, peptides in here as well that really help plump and add that hydration to the lips, and Aloe leaf extract as well. There's just something like it's not watery but there's something that feels like quenching to it even though it's in such a thick consistency. I've just not used a Lip Balm like this before."
~Yay
"Remedy for Lips has ceramides to help build the skin barrier, ethically sourced squalane, peptides, and petrolatum as the occlusive. It feels really nice on the skin, it's not as heavy and greasy as plain Vaseline, it blends in well, and there's no fragrance and no flavor to it. I think this would be a great product if you have really dry lips, if you like a Lip Balm, or even if you're on Accutane, since it actually puts moisture on the skin rather than just occluding it to prevent water loss. It's sixteen dollars, definitely more expensive than your average chapstick, but it's definitely a better product than your average chapstick. I do like this product very much and I'm definitely going to keep using it. If you get great results from plain Vaseline or Aquaphor, there's probably not a big reason you need to switch unless you just want to support the mission of the company."

Dark Spots? Large Pores? Dry Lips? REMEDY BY DR. SHAH IS FINALLY HERE!
"This just feels nourished. I will say all the products that we've created and I've had friends and family and testers testing these products for the past year, this is the product that I get phone calls on. [...] People text me and they go, I need more Remedy [...] for my lips, which to me sounds really cool. [...] This is the product I've gotten the most refill requests on because people love the way that it makes their lips feel. This is a product that I don't go anywhere without at this point, mainly because there's nothing worse than having dry lips for me, especially when you're on camera and you're thinking about [...] your lips being dry the whole time."

"Remedy for lips, what I like about that is it is also minimalistic, very hypoallergenic, extremely extremely hydrating and nourishing. It's got a little bit of a lighter vehicle so if you don't like the feeling of like a wax protective layer you would probably prefer remedy for lips."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
