  • Easy to apply too much colour

What the gurus are saying

This blush earns consistent praise for its blurring matte finish and serious pigmentation, making it especially good for oily skin where it also mattifies without looking dry. The texture applies like a cream but sets like a powder, so it blends smoothly and lasts without needing a separate setting step. The main thing to watch: the pigment is intense, so a light hand matters or you risk looking overblended.

"Another blush that I love for oily skin, not only because it mattifies, but it also sort of has a blurring effect, are the Rare Beauty Matte Bouncy Blushes. Just gorgeous shades. Also very pigmented. I would pick this up on like a slightly fluffier brush."

"I start blush with the Rare Beauty Happy Matte Bouncy Blush in the shade Happy, a really beautiful cream to powder formula with a bit of punchiness. Layering formulas helps with longevity, and I tap it higher on the cheeks before adding a glowier one on top."

"This is the shade Happy. It's got a nice blur to it. It definitely is more of that matte. I really like it. You can kind of see the blur on my hand. I like that a lot."

"The happy is a warmer tone than each of the others. It's cream based so it looks beautiful on the skin and blends in. The happy is a little bit more opaque than I anticipated."

"If I was to go for it, I would go for Rare Beauty. The solid one, not the liquid one. The one in the really bright pan. It's got a spongy texture, kind of creamy, really pigmented. And you build it up. And it lasts. It gives you like a blurred finish as well. And you can't go wrong with it. Just put it out there, if you wear too much, you look like you've just literally laid down in red paint, so just calm down."

"This is one of my favorite blush formulas. This is a stunning formula. A cushiony cream to powder blush that gives the dreamiest flush of color with a lasting blurred matte finish. I just love the way it is on the skin. I think it's just one of the best blushes. I know these come out slightly deeper than they look in the pan. Some of them. It does have a bit more of that warmth to it. I do like that they tried it on a model with a deeper skin tone. I love this formula. So I'm going to pop them in at number three."

"Look how stunning that pigmentation is on her cheeks."
The Blush That Might Replace All My Others | Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Matte Bouncy Blush
"I'm so impressed and I really really like how you build it up. When you build it up you can see the smoothing happened and for somebody who's very textured in these areas it's a beautiful blush. I'm really really like it, I think it is really really stunning, really stunning. I'm really happy and pleased with the finish. These are definitely going to be a go-to for me. I literally just sorted out my blushes so I need to go through them again because I'm trying not to build up all these products, but yeah, stunning, very very impressed. I really do think this might be a blush that is going to change your makeup game. If you are into your full coverage blush, if you don't want to use a cream product, if you're finding you're having to use cream set with a powder to get that full full pigmentation from your blush and you don't want to do that anymore, this is going to be a great one for you. You can see how much I built it up, applies like a cream, definitely sets like a powder and blends like a powder. This is the one for you."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.
