What the gurus are saying

Gurus split sharply on whether this functions as true contour versus bronzer, largely along skin tone lines. Fair-to-medium skin users find it too warm and bronze-leaning for contouring but praise its natural, easy-to-blend application and everyday wearability. Deeper skin tone users report it works beautifully as intended contour. The recurring consensus is that the formula itself is forgiving and blends seamlessly, but the shade range skews bronzer rather than true cool-toned shadow for lighter complexions.

"One last thing in makeup is the Rare Beauty Liquid Contour. I have tried a lot of different contours, bronzers. This one has got me right now. I just love it. I love the shades that this comes in. And this shade is perfect. So many of them are so warm that they kind of look orange or they're so cool that they look gray. And this one is just the perfect shade. This shade is called Mellow. And it's not too dark, not too light. What I love about this is how easy it blends. You can't make a mistake with this. It's not like most things where you can put on too much and then you're like, "Oh, where am I blending this to?" This just blends out so beautifully and it looks so great on the skin and it's very subtle. So you can do your contouring but it doesn't look like you're contoured. You don't want to have these muddy looking, dirty looking stripes all over your face to do your contouring. You just want it to look natural. And this is such a beautiful product for that. Absolutely love it."

"The contour product that I've been basically exclusively using for the past couple of months is this one from Rare Beauty. This is their liquid contour. I have the lightest shade, called Gentle, and it's just great. This one is more cool toned than their others, but once it's applied for me, it actually applies pretty neutral. So I feel like it works as kind of like a sculpting bronzer. Some of the other shades I've heard people say lean much more bronzery, so just keep that in mind. It might not be a contour product for everyone, but I just take a little bit of that on the back of my hand and apply my contour higher than I used to. Once you blend it in, you can see it still sculpts, but it lifts. I've been doing that with this. I do my contour prior to my concealer, especially for everyday. I just feel like it's easier. It allows me to be a little bit messy with the contour and then I can clean up everything after I apply it."

My Honest Review of All The New Makeup...
"What I loved about this is how natural it looks, it's a really really natural contour. So if you're scared of a more cool-toned contour product, don't be with this one. This is very user-friendly, very everyday appropriate. For me this shade worked great on my fair skin. I really loved how it was able to shape and it still warmed up my complexion without me feeling overdone. So for me this is very much an everyday type of contour. If I was doing a full full glam I think I would reach for something with a little more pigment just to really get that kind of look and structure, but for every day I think this is a real winner."

"This isn't contour straight up. That isn't contour. On fairer skins, I do prefer to use more pinky grays just because it's still shadow. I have seen these contours work beautifully on deeper skin tones. I do just feel like we need some grayer tones. This is straight up bronzer on me."

"Looking at this on my skin and thinking, you know what, it does have a shadow-esque vibe to it. This one is a little bit more contoury. It's nice. I mean I would probably use this as a bronzer. It's not far off the contour shade, but my eye can see some warmth, some redness, some tan. Whereas if I want tan personally, I will use bronzer. The shade has got like a very much a red tone to it. And again, not for my skin tone. It quite literally looks like blush on my skin but would not be for me in any way."

"This is not a contour. This is a sunburn. This is not a contour. At best, this is a liquid bronzer. A contour is a shadow, they're supposed to literally imitate a shadow. This is not it. It is so warm toned."
UNBIASED HONEST REVIEW New Rare Beauty Soft Pinch Liquid Contour
"These aren't contours on the fairer skin tones and the medium skin tones. On the deeper skin tones, people love them and they look really beautiful on the skin. I will still use these to bronze. I love this bronze. But in my contour shades, I don't want it to be able to double as a blusher. On fairer skin tones, I would not use this as a contour because it does come out cool and light. As I tan, I will use them, but contours, not so much. If they brought out some contour shades in this formula, I would love that. But I'm not a fan of what these products claim to be."
