What the gurus are saying

Getting this lotion out of its packaging is unexpectedly difficult, with the dispenser design making it genuinely painful to access the product inside. The scent also disappointed, reading more like a cleaning product than a fragrance, and between these two issues the lotion simply doesn't stand out among all the other hydrating options available at a similar price point.

"This Body Lotion is priced very reasonably for a Sephora brand, twenty eight dollars for five fluid ounces, and it's cute little packaging, but the problem is it's actually a big problem, it is extremely painful for me to get this moisturizer out of its packaging. I also expected more from the scent, to me it smells like lemon, a little bit like Lemon Pledge. This collection had so much potential, it's so cute, it's affordable, but it just missed the mark for me."

"The Body Lotion is okay okay I mean there are lots of hydrating body lotions"

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
