What the gurus are saying

Gurus view rapamycin as genuinely promising for longevity based on animal studies, though human data remains sparse because no drug company has financial incentive to fund large anti-aging trials. The consensus is that more research is needed before recommending it to the general population. An unexpected side benefit noted is acne suppression at certain doses, though the overall safety and efficacy profile in healthy people remains unclear.

"There are several animal studies that do show that when animals take rapamycin they tend to live longer and healthier. Now because rapamycin is a generic drug unfortunately there will probably be very few studies on rapamycin and anti-aging because no drug company is going to fund this. But there are biohackers who are using rapamycin as a way to potentially prolong their lives. I'm not recommending it for the general population just yet. It's only available as a prescription and at this point we still need to learn more about rapamycin to be sure that this truly is an anti-aging drug, but the promise is definitely there."

"Rapamycin is one of the most promising anti-aging drugs. It's used for people who are doing organ transplants and it suppresses the immune system. It's kind of counterintuitive, but the dose I'm taking has acne side effects, so this is really great for some acne control."
