What the gurus are saying

Animal studies hint that rapamycin may support longer, healthier lifespans, and the experts who weighed in call it one of the most promising anti-aging candidates on the horizon. However, because it's a generic drug, human anti-aging research is sparse, and the gurus stress we still need solid evidence before recommending it widely. One expert noted an unexpected perk: at certain doses, it can actually help control acne. Anyone considering it would need a prescription and should understand this remains an experimental approach with more to learn.

"There are several animal studies that do show that when animals take rapamycin they tend to live longer and healthier. Now because rapamycin is a generic drug unfortunately there will probably be very few studies on rapamycin and anti-aging because no drug company is going to fund this. But there are biohackers who are using rapamycin as a way to potentially prolong their lives. I'm not recommending it for the general population just yet. It's only available as a prescription and at this point we still need to learn more about rapamycin to be sure that this truly is an anti-aging drug, but the promise is definitely there."

"Rapamycin is one of the most promising anti-aging drugs. It's used for people who are doing organ transplants and it suppresses the immune system. It's kind of counterintuitive, but the dose I'm taking has acne side effects, so this is really great for some acne control."
