"Hyaluronic acid is a precursor to collagen synthesis within the skin, but it's not going to stimulate the fibroblast, the molecule within skin that produces collagen, to produce a lot. Really it's just a hydration, so it's like an injectable moisturizer. It's not volumizing. It will give that sort of glow to the skin for a few weeks to a few months. It is relatively safe compared to dermal fillers because it's less viscous, but that doesn't mean that you can't get an intravascular injection. It's still a viscous substance so you have to be really careful where you inject it. Profhilo is in a family of products called skin boosters and it's probably the lightest out of all of them, so it's the most subtle."

"Improvement of skin smoothness, which I think Profhilo is the best thing at, only 48% of people said that they noticed a lot of improvement in that and the rest were like on the fence. You got a 48% satisfaction rating for the highest point, which in aesthetics it's not great. If I put filler over here in the nasolabial fold or the cheek I would get like greater than 95% satisfaction rating. If you look at Sculptra, you've got an 85% satisfaction rating at 2 years. [...] When you're charging pretty much just a little bit more per vial of Sculptra than you are Profhilo, that's an investment difference, and it lasts longer beyond 6 months. Profhilo just kind of washes away because your body turns over hyaluronic acid. In my opinion, is it worth it to spend on its own? No. In select patients I would combine Profhilo with other treatments. [...] If you're dipping your toes in and you're in that younger age range and you want something very light, something that no one really wants to know about, that you can't see, you just want to prevent, and you've got the funds for it, then definitely it is worth it. But if you want to invest in your face and you want a little bit more dramatic results, then I don't believe that it's worth it."

"Profhilo is an uncrosslinked hyaluronic acid that basically means that it kind of just spreads like honey just through the dermis, so the lower layers of the skin, and it hydrates everything. You get four or five different points on the face and it spreads nicely. It doesn't add any volume, just improves elasticity, hydration, and very superficial plumping. It's almost like a little spaghetti chain that goes under the skin, binding water along the way and then holding that water, but not actually projecting the skin, so not adding volume. This is typically what people talk about as the injectable moisturizer. You have like two treatments four weeks apart, then sometimes for people that are a little bit more dehydrated, have another treatment six weeks later, and then you maintain that every six months. Profhilo body is also available in a larger syringe, which is really useful for hydration in the décolletage area, around the elbow, around the knees, and even in the arms."
