What the gurus are saying

Experts praise this as an effective skin protectant that hydrates and shields vulnerable eyelid skin from irritants, with the added benefit of light-scattering effects that can soften the appearance of dark circles. The 40% glycerin concentration plumps the skin surface and works quickly without feeling heavy, making it especially appealing for those with oily or acne-prone skin who want barrier support without occlusive heaviness. A few found it slightly less brightening than competing options and noted a subtle fruity scent, though most called it ideal for travel, post-procedure recovery, and sensitive skin in need of calm and moisture.

"I've also tried it with Prequel's version of that, the skin utility gel. Glycerin skin protectants 20% whereas this is 40. I put a little drop like under each eye and then rub it around to my upper eyelids. Amazing for especially the under eye area. Like it just the glycerin is very hydrating. So it plumps the surface of the skin through light scattering, dark under eye hollows and dark circles are less obvious. Just kind of brightens up the under eye area, smooths out wrinkles, but importantly it protects the eyelid from irritants which can get there, you know, settle and then get sucked up close to the skin as the muscles contract. And so the skin protectant to the eyelids helps protect them. And I've managed to be able to put a tiny drop of that on my eyelids in the morning and work it in, and let it dry down and then put sunscreen on over and not get any peeling around the eyes."

Skincare Scams & My Spode Christmas Collection | Vlog
"This is a great product, it's a glycerin skin protectant gel, great for protecting the skin around your eyes, but I don't get as much of a bang for my buck with this in terms of under eye brightening effect as I do with other options. The only thing that I can think that explains that is this one does not have hyaluronic acid. This one's just a touch thinner too in terms of texture, and the Prequel one has a little bit of a fruity aroma to it. I feel like I get a little bit more under eye brightening and smoothing with other products, but it's a great option for moisturizing dry, irritation-prone areas."

"It's a skin protectant meant to help heal damaged skin. For example, if you just had a procedure or you have overdone it with your skincare and you're getting a lot of dryness peeling, god forbid, maybe you had a sunburn and you're in the peeling stages. Currently, I'm using and almost finished, and when I do finish, I will repurchase this, the Prequel Skin Utility Gel."

Skincare That Got Me To New York | Travel Vlog
"This one works pretty well, really great for travel purposes. When I get off of a plane my skin is a lot more sensitive, probably because of the dry air, and the Prequel Skin Utility Gel is great for that."
I Finished These Skincare Products—Would I Repurchase?
"The Prequel Skin Utility Gel, also another glycerin skin protection. A little different as far as some of the other ingredients in this. This one has niacinamide, which is great. I like that. What does this do for my eye area? Two things. First of all, it brightens it up and diminishes the appearance of under eye circles just by light scattering. It's a skin protectant. So, it protects eyelid skin from irritants and allergens because eyelid skin is really vulnerable to irritants and allergens because of how delicate it is and when you blink your eye, the muscles contract and kind of suck those irritants and allergens up closer. So, having a skin protectant on board really does a lot."
*BEST* Glycerin Gel? | La Roche Posay Vs Prequel Review
"I found the Prequel Skin Utility Gel to be a touch bit more lightweight, though barely perceptible. I didn't find it to be as wow in terms of the under eye brightening effect, but in using it around my eyes I did find it to be very effective for reducing eyelid irritation, keeping the eyelids skin moisturized, smooth, and supple. I just didn't quite get as much bang for my buck in terms of the under eye brightening effect. The ultimate outcome of improving moisture retention, smoothing the skin surface, and protecting the skin from irritant is the same as other products. It also has a bit of a fruity aroma to it."
This New Shampoo Is Shampooing!
"This is the Prequel Skin Utility Gel. Very similar in terms of ingredient focus, performance, and function as the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Gel, but this one has niacinamide that one does not. This one has a fruity aroma. Glycerin under the eyes, it's a game changer."

"This isn't your typical gel cream or watery gel. It starts as a gel but as you work it into the skin it forms this very light veil on the skin that is just special. I have not touched something like this before in the best way. This could layer in multiple different places in your routine, you could do it as the first thing on your skin or over your moisturizers. Because of this lightweight texture, this product is so ideal for people who like the idea of slugging or skin protectants in concept but maybe have acne-prone skin or oily skin and they've never been able to get on board with that. This will allow you to still help your skin and heal your skin in that way but with something that feels more comfortable to you. Even though this is a skin protectant and it has some occlusive properties, it's still very breathable and so it's very comfortable on the skin. If you want your skincare to be working but you don't want to necessarily be aware of the presence of it, if you want that nice comfort to your skin and want that skin barrier to be restored but you don't necessarily want to feel the product on your skin, this gel is fantastic. It comes out as sort of a milky gel and then as you work it into the skin it works in super quickly."

Introducing Prequel's NEW Skin Utility Balm Multi-Purpose Skin Protectant | Dr. Sam Ellis
"This balm really sits in between the utility gel and the utility ointment for me. It's kind of like the Goldilocks formula. There are people who are going to love that gel because maybe they have more oily skin or they're looking for a really lightweight skin protectant, and there are going to be certain times that I reach for that more than I reach for the balm, for example in the summer or when I'm traveling to more humid climates. But in terms of what's going on my skin the most, it's the skin utility balm as my nightly moisturizer and kind of what I use to slug over the top of anything else. The utility balm contains something called a lipophilic skin hydrator which is going to help maintain the water balance in the skin and give long-lasting relief. It also contains shea butter which has a unique fatty acid profile that gives it special moisturizing properties, and this balm is absolutely stacked. It also has centella asiatica as well as aloe and chamomile to soothe, calm, and comfort the skin. The way I use the skin utility balm in my routine is twofold. One, postprocedurally as a dermatologist I'm constantly doing light laser resurfacing things like Clear and Brilliant or micro needling, and I really like to use this particular balm to help me recover from those treatments. The other way this has made it into my regular routine is as a nighttime moisturizer, especially since it's been cooler and drier outside. This balm really does comfort the skin in the evening, and I like to use it as the last step in my skin care."
