What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise this cleanser for its lightweight, pleasant texture and effective emulsification that leaves no film behind. The consensus is that it performs comparably to other cleansing oils at an affordable price point, with particular strength in breaking down waterproof makeup and sunscreen. A recurring theme is how satisfying and ritualistic it feels to use, encouraging slower massage application rather than rushing through cleansing.

"Overall, I really like this cleansing oil. I think it's fantastic. I would gladly repurchase it over and over again. It's relatively affordable. It's pretty similar performance-wise to other cleansing oils I routinely use."

"This is the Prequel Pre-Cleanse Cleansing Oil. I think it's really good. It feels very juicy for like an oil. I don't know how to explain it, but it's juicy and I like that. I've been using it a lot lately and it breaks everything down so easily. See, it does a good job at emulsifying."

"This stuff is pretty affordable. We've got sunflower seed oil, rice bran oil, a couple of fatty acids, centella in here, and then vitamin E, so it's got a nice short ingredient list with no fragrance. It's an oil-based cleanser you apply to your skin when it's dry and massage it on your dry skin and then rinse it. The theory is oil attracts oil, so oils on your skin, oils in your makeup, oils in your sunscreen will become attracted to this and therefore when it soaks it up it removes it."

"I'm pretty consistent with how I double cleanse. I will either use my Prequel Pre-Cleanse Cleansing Oil and then go in with the Prequel cleanser, or I will use my Biderma micellar water on a cotton pad. The beauty of a double cleanse like this is that all the steps, all of the products you're using are super gentle so you're not stripping your skin even though you're cleansing twice and very thoroughly. This is particularly helpful if you struggle with things like clogged pores or you don't feel like your products are absorbing that well at night, because sometimes that's because there's leftover gunk on your face that's not getting appropriately cleaned off. When you go in with the double cleanse, you are really prepping your skin for anything else you're putting on after."

"Prequel Pre-Gleanse Cleansing Oil is an oil-based first cleanser that can be used before your water-based cleanser. It helps break down sunscreen, waterproof makeup, and sebum before you go in with your water-based cleanser, so that ultimately you're ending up with a more thorough cleanse. By using an oil cleanser and then a water-based cleanser, you are more gently dissolving what's on your face without causing extra trauma to your skin, so it's a gentle way to thoroughly cleanse your skin. As a dermatologist and as someone who has sensitive skin and rosacea, I can tell you that how you cleanse your skin really matters, and using a first cleansing step is a very efficient yet gentle way to remove debris from your skin."

"What makes Prequel Pre-Gleanse so special is that it also utilizes glycerin which I love and sorbital derived surfactants that instantly emulsify so you get this very clean rinse with no film left behind but your skin still feels really soft afterward. I've gone in with Prequel and then almost forgotten to go in with my second cleansing step because my skin feels so perfectly cleansed and nourished. Prequel has such a lightweight oil texture like when I feel it on the skin it's light but it still feels plushy and what I really like about this is when I'm massaging it into my skin it still has this beautiful slip. Sometimes people rush through the cleansing process but this really allows you to kind of pause and be a little bit more ritualistic because you want to massage this into your skin it feels that good. I start with dry hands and take about three pumps or so, distribute it on my palms and then massage it into my face including around my eyes where I might have any eye makeup. I do that for about 30 seconds until I can see that my makeup has been thoroughly broken down and then I add just the tiniest bit of water to emulsify the cleanser at that point you're going to see it transform from clear to kind of milky and then rinse it off completely. Oil cleansers are also such a beautiful way to break down sunscreen not only on the face but also."

"When I'm massaging it into my skin it still has this beautiful slip like I actually kind of want to put this on my face right now. Sometimes people rush through the cleansing process but this really allows you to kind of pause and be a little bit more ritualistic because you want to massage this into your skin it feels that good. I start with dry hands and then I take about three pumps or so I distribute it on my palms and then I start massaging it into my face including around my eyes where I might have any eye makeup I do that for about 30 seconds until I can see that my makeup has been thoroughly broken down and then I add just the tiniest bit of water to emulsify the cleanser at that point it transforms from clear to kind of milky and then you rinse it off completely. Oil cleansers are such a beautiful way to break down sunscreen not only on the face but also on the body. It's like my dermatologist pro tip to use something like this if you have sunscreen on your skin because sometimes it can feel like it's hard to get it off in the shower. One issue I've had with cleansing oils over the years is that sometimes they can either sting my eyes or leave like a cloudy film on my eyeballs and I was very much not about that, so when we developed this I really wanted to make sure that it rinse clean not just from my skin but also from my eyes."

"Removing body sunscreen can be kind of tricky so in the bath I will rub this over his arms and chest anywhere that he has sunscreen and then I'll rinse it off and it's a really nice way to get a thorough cleanse that's still super gentle. I know it feels kind of weird as someone who has oily skin or who is acne prone to go in and put something like an oil cleanser on your skin but this has been clinically tested to be non-comedogenic or non-pore clogging so this is not going to break you out or exacerbate any existing acne that you might have. Using a double cleanse when you have acne can actually be really beneficial. This is fragrance-free, hypoallergenic, allergy tested, and suitable for all skin types including people who have sensitive skin or who are eczema prone. Since this was developed I have not stopped using it in my routine."
