    What the gurus are saying

This lotion's protective film absorbs so quickly it becomes nearly imperceptible, yet gurus confirm it genuinely keeps hands from feeling depleted or dry even after repeated washing throughout the day. The silky, lightweight formula doesn't leave any greasy residue and layers seamlessly without unwanted buildup. For anyone whose hands get washed frequently, reapplication during the day proves simple and practical.

"I tried a new hand cream, the Prequel Hand Wrap hand shielding lotion. It's a water resistant film former with lipids, so it helps prevent moisture loss from your skin even when you're washing your hands. I ran out of the hand salve I'd used for years and wanted to try something else, so I gave this a try and so far so good. When I ran out of my old one, the edges of my nails were dry and I had a lot more hangnails, but since working this into my routine that dryness has really cleared up. It's a nice feeling hand cream, it doesn't feel greasy, and it just really keeps my hands nice and hydrated overnight."

"It's very light and if you are in the throws of really dry cracked hands you would probably benefit from using just plain petroleum jelly to the hands at night under gloves but for throughout the day when you can't be bothered with all that it's too messy this is a great basic hand moisturizer. I have rather enjoyed it. I was thinking when I read hand shielding lotion and I saw glycerin and dimethicone the consistency of this would be probably very similar to some other hand creams I love adore and rout that have this characteristic texture, namely Neutrogena Norwegian formula hand cream or L'Oreal Posay seea plast hand cream they have this characteristic almost gel-like feel on the hands but fast absorbing non greasy they're clear they're colorless this on the other hand was a bit more in the box of lotion like creaminess so just different in texture than what I was expecting but a good product."

"When I am at work, you will not find me without my Prequel Hand Wrap. Because I'm a physician, I'm constantly washing my hands, I do it before and after every single patient, sometimes even during an exam as well. And this is what we call a hand-shielding lotion. So it actually creates a seal on the skin to prevent moisture loss with repeated washing. And because it creates that shield, you don't need to reapply this every time you wash your hands. I probably reapply it a couple times during the day. That is sufficient. And it's not greasy or heavy, so I can put it on and then just go about doing my tasks without worrying that I'm leaving sticky fingerprints."

"Having a product like Hand Wrap that actually serves to protect your hands in the moment when you're doing your day-to-day activities was so important to me. [...] What I love about this is as soon as you apply it the dry down is almost instant yet it leaves this very light protective film on the skin that I honestly forget about. I don't feel it but I know it's there because when I wash my hands the skin on my hands doesn't feel depleted afterward. I also really love how this product layers so you can apply it at one point in time during the day and then go back in a couple hours later and reapply it and it doesn't feel like it's accumulating a weird residue on the hands. [...] When you first apply this it feels very silky, kind of slippy. I love how fast it absorbs into the skin on your hands and it doesn't have this soapiness where it stays white on your skin and you can't get it to rub in. I hate that especially with hand products."

"I love the one from my brand Prequel it's called Hand Wrap and the reason I like this one so much is it kind of forms a film over your hands so that your hands are not sticky but they are protected from the elements so it is my favorite daytime go-to hand cream because I can moisturize my hands but they don't feel sticky or I don't want to not touch things afterward because I've put it on."

"With my brand Prequel, we did create something called Hand Wrap, which is a super lightweight lotion that you can use on your hands but also creates a little bit of a seal or a barrier from external forces. So every time you wash your hands it doesn't get fully rinsed off, which is really nice."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
