    What the gurus are saying

The glow on this primer is almost illuminator-level. Reviewers love the luminous, nude champagne to bronzy finish and really appreciate that just a tiny amount does the job effectively. They suggest keeping it away from pore areas and textured skin since it emphasizes those spots, but beneath foundation it delivers gorgeous glowing results with gentle mattifying effect.

"You just put a tiny amount of this. And I mean that is enough. Work it on the top of your sunscreen like that. And look, there is zero shine in that area. I put it in it. It just works. It's a great way of mattifying a sunscreen that might be just a tad on the dewy side for your taste or in certain areas might just be a bit shiny. This will just mattify it down. Absolute perfection."

"The Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer, I kept in all those videos I kept saying like you could use this as an illuminator. It's like a really beautiful nude champagne kind of shade for my skin tone. Love, love it."

"I'm going to use the Pixi Flawless & Poreless Primer. It's real glowy. Basically an illuminator. I'm going to put that on the outer perimeter of my face because girl has got glow. My skin is very well hydrated, so I don't need dew, but I do want glow. Keeping it far away from the center of my face. Look at that glow."

"I'm going to be using the Pixi Flawless Beauty Primer, which is kind of similarish to the Iconic London one. This looks like a freaking illuminator. Very glowy. It has a little bit of a moussey kind of feel to it, but it is glowy. Like you could use this as an illuminator essentially. It also has like a little bit of a bronzy kind of color for my skin. You see that glow? It looks crazy like this, right? But underneath foundation, it can look absolutely incredible. Just make sure that you are keeping it far away from any of your larger pore areas. Or if you have like really intense texture that you don't want to bring attention to, you probably want to avoid those areas as well. Like you could literally use this as an illuminator."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.

    Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

    Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
