What the gurus are saying

This bronzer earns consistent praise for its neutral tone that doesn't pull orange or too warm, even on fair skin, delivering genuine warmth without looking artificial. The blending is seamless and foolproof; the scent is beloved even by those who typically avoid fragrance in skincare. Many keep it as a daily staple, calling it one of the best bronzers they own.

"This is the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. I feel like this is just so foolproof, it still continues to be one of the best bronzers in my collection, and the smell is just so nostalgic."

Doing My Makeup Like It's 2016 🥹 (haha this is a fun one)
"This changed my life, right? I feel like this is one of those products that has really stuck around in people's routines. [...] It's still so good. It's just as I remember. It's so good."
Why did I ever stop using this? 🤯 (January Favorites)
"The Glorious Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. I don't know why I ever like put this down. I revisited this in my 2016 video and it's literally just sat here on my filming desk since filming that and I've been using it on a daily basis. First of all, can we talk about how good the smell is? They nailed the scent. And you guys know I'm somebody who does not like scents in my products, but if they took the scent out of this, I would be mad because it smells so good to me. [...] This is the original bronzer shade. [...] It's my personal favorite. Even though I do believe they have a lighter shade now, for me, I feel like this still works with a light hand on my fair skin. It gives the perfect amount of bronziness without looking orange for me, which is so nice and so needed, especially during winter. The way it blends is just unbeatable."
I LOVE how this look turned out!! 😍 Keep using what you have!!
"This powder bronzer is the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer. This is something that I also like can't put down. Ever since filming my 2016 video, I've loved this all over again. I just think for myself and my skin tone, it's a really really nice properly warm bronzer that doesn't look orange on me, which I appreciate. Especially with it being the dead of winter, I just want a little bit of glow sometimes without looking orange, like it has to look like it's natural and this really does the trick. I love it."
Trying TONS of NEW Drugstore Makeup!! 😱

"For my bronzer, I use the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer in shade Bronzer. I really like this one because it's not too warm. If you have a fairer complexion like I do, if you use a bronzer that's too warm, you'll just start to look orange. This is a nice neutrally pigmented bronzer that also doesn't lean too gray, and I don't want it gray because I'm not trying to contour with this bronzer. I'm just trying to warm up my complexion and make it look like I have a tan."

"Today I'm using the Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer which I dropped on the ground and now is completely broken but we're still going to use it. I just think this is like a really nice neutral bronze shade and I don't use blush because of my rosacea, I find that my cheeks are pink enough on their own."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
