What the gurus are saying

The DNA repair enzymes calm redness and protect against UV damage; those who've tested it apply it after cleansing, sometimes pairing it with LED light therapy for enhanced redness-calming. They describe it as preventative protection rather than delivering visible transformation, essentially an investment in future skin resilience. It's a significant cost best suited to people committed to UV prevention rather than dramatic overnight results.

Anti-Aging Skincare Routine Over 50: Do DNA Repair Enzymes Really Work on Our Mature Skin?
"What DNA strands do is stimulate our cells to behave in a more productive way so that we can carry on DNA repair at a better and higher level. The more you add, the more you're stimulating your cells to carry out DNA repair. Did I see a drastic change in my skin from 3 months using the DNA repair enzymes? I did not. But the hope is by using them that I prevented the damage that UVA would have caused if I hadn't used them. This is kind of a protective step, it's not an active step that's going to change your skin overnight. What it is doing is protecting you from future damage. That's a really clear distinction that we need to make. I don't really have a before and after to show you because it's what would it have looked like if I hadn't used them. These are a costly product, so you have to think twice: is this something you want to try in the vein that you're not going to see a huge difference in your skin because you're taking a preventative step. These are to be used in addition to your daily sunscreen. They come after cleansing. They're a very watery serum even though they look kind of creamy. It looks like cream, but when you blend it in it's a very thin watery texture."

"The DNA Youth Recovery Serum by Photozyme has DNA repair enzymes and I just did a video detailing my experience using this. I finished up a full size and a trial size. In short, I will be repurchasing this and DNA repair enzymes will definitely be staying in my skincare routine."
Mixed
"This is designed to repair as well as protect from the damage caused by environmental stressors, particularly UV exposure. It uses advanced DNA repair enzymes to target and fix damage at a cellular level. This should help promote healthier and more resilient skin. I haven't tried this yet, so I'm going to finish off the OneSkin first to see the effects of that before I try the Photozyme, so it's probably going to sit on a shelf until I'm ready to try it."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.
