What the gurus are saying

One expert praised the cream's silky, comfortable feel and noted it delivers a thicker, more occlusive hydration compared to similar products. However, there's a significant legal dispute: another reviewer flagged allegations that the brand's claims about hyaluronic acid drawing moisture from the air and absorbing huge quantities of water don't hold up, and that hyaluronic acid actually pulls water from skin rather than to it. That means anyone considering this should focus on how it feels and how their skin responds, rather than on the atmospheric moisture claims.

"The lawsuit alleges that PTR's claim that they provide moisture to user skin by drawing in and retaining large quantities of water from the atmosphere is false, as is the claim that the hyaluronic acid present in the products is able to absorb nearly 1,000 times its weight in water. The hyaluronic acid present in the products is already saturated with water and is incapable of absorbing anywhere near the amount claimed. Even if the hyaluronic acid were able to absorb water, it would draw water from the skin, not from the atmosphere, therefore having the opposite effect the brand advertises."

"Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream has the silkiest feel on the skin ever. It normally is 54 dollars but it is 30 off right now so it's 37.80 on both days of Prime Day. This contains a 30 percent hyaluronic acid complex. It's actually a little bit similar in feel to the Vichy Mineral 89 but this has a thicker texture so it's a little more hydrating, a little more occlusive on the skin."
