What the gurus are saying

This serum's lightweight jelly texture and lack of residue stand out, powered by 2% salicylic acid that exfoliates. It also contains niacinamide and zinc similar to Glossier, but experts caution that if you're already using another exfoliant like Starface, you may want to use this less often to avoid overexfoliating. Those with sensitive skin may want to patch-test first, as it has a scent.

"The Peace Out Acne Serum, I can't use it on my face because it contains my allergen, but it turns out it's wonderful used elsewhere, and it's practically free with the discount on the box set."

"The Peace Out Acne Serum is seventeen dollars and it is two percent salicylic acid. It also has niacinamide and zinc, similar to Glossier, but it has salicylic acid as an addition. If you're exfoliating with Starface again, you don't need this because this one is salicylic acid. It has a very jelly texture, goes on very lightweight, does not leave a residue, and it has a scent if you have sensitive skin. But just be aware of what you're using because you don't want to overexfoliate."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide has evidence behind it for redness, uneven tone and supporting the skin barrier, and it is usually well tolerated even by skin that reacts to most things.

Salicylic acid

Salicylic acid dissolves in oil, so it can get into a pore rather than just working on the surface. That is why it has long-standing evidence for blackheads and milder acne.
