    What the gurus are saying

A sheer mineral sunscreen that blends without white cast across different skin tones, with dermatologists drawn to its lightweight cream texture and strong antioxidant blend (vitamin C in the gentler THD ascorbate form, plus resveratrol). The formula earns particular praise for oily and acne-prone skin, since it's non-comedogenic and won't feel sticky. Those with sensitive skin may especially appreciate the gentler vitamin C form.

"It has a ton of antioxidants in it as well as resveratrol which is from the skin of grapes, also an antioxidant. It's pure mineral with zinc oxide at 33%, and the thing I like about this is it comes out as a really silky lightweight cream. It's different from other options, really more lightweight and more like a cream. I really like this because it's great for normal to oily skin, it's non-comedogenic, and so if you're looking for a more lightweight sunscreen, if you're oily or acne-prone, then this is a great option for you."

"I would choose the Super Light Wrinkle Defense SPF 30. This one is made with 13.3% zinc oxide so it is a mineral sunscreen lightly tinted. It contains babol and willow bark extract to help soothe inflamed skin that's red and also quite an impressive antioxidant blend that's in the sunscreen itself. It has EGCG which is derived from green tea, THD ascorbate which is a great stabilized form of vitamin C, lutin which is found in plants as well as Resveratrol an antioxidant found in grapes. This sunscreen does so much. It's universally flattering but it's also very very light, so it provides light coverage but it's a wonderful base, makes your skin look radiant and smooth and then you can apply your makeup on top of that."

"This is one of my favorites by the way. This is the Super Light Daily Wrinkle Defense broad spectrum SPF 30. This has a zinc oxide of 13 and I've been talking about this for a few years now and it has a beautiful formula. This contains antioxidants, it contains Resveratrol, so great to protect the skin from the environment, great for signs of aging, and also this has willow bark extract which has this calming soothing property to it. Great for all skin types in my opinion, but this is really good if you have oily combination skin. It's not too heavy but it's not extremely moisturizing either. It just has that nice formula that keeps your skin comfortable but not overly moisturized. They say this is a matte formula, I personally don't believe this is mattifying at all. I feel like this is more of that skin-like finish which I much prefer. I don't like that matte look on my skin."

"I'm glad I finished this up and I'm probably not going to purchase another one of these because I found another sunscreen that I like mixing with the LTMD better than the Paula's Choice."

"Paula's Choice has this one which our beautiful butterfly Paula actually loves. This is the Super Light Daily Wrinkle Defense Broad Spectrum SPF 30. And it also has antioxidants and resveratrol. This one is again fragrance free and this one is hyaluronic acid free as well. So really, really good for rosacea prone skin. I would say this is phenomenal if you want a regular sunscreen, this is excellent."

"This is my top favorite tinted mineral sunscreen, the Super Light Daily Wrinkle Defense. It's all mineral and tinted so it doesn't give a white cast. I love it because it's weightless on the skin, it absorbs right in instead of sitting like a thick layer like a lot of mineral sunscreens do. It also has vitamin C in it for an extra antioxidant boost. For Prime Day it's 30% off, as big a discount as Paula's Choice ever offers."

"Paula's Choice the Super Light Daily Wrinkle Defense, this was actually another one of my favorite products of the year last year. It contains vitamin C in it in the THD ascorbate form and it has vitamin E. It is all mineral and it is sheerely tinted with no white cast and I think that this would blend really nicely on a variety of skin tones. This is very lightweight on the skin, it leaves a little bit of a dewy finish. If you really can only get one SPF ever, this is going to be one of your top contenders and it's reasonable price too."

"This is my number one pick of everything I saw for sale for SPFs on Prime Day. It's one of my favorite sunscreens ever for several reasons. I love this because it's 100% mineral, but it is very sheerely tinted, so it's not going to leave a white cast on your skin. I think this can blend in and match many different skin tones. What I also love about this is that it contains vitamin C, so an antioxidant. In my opinion, makes a sunscreen much more effective and complete. It has THD ascorbate form which in my opinion absorbs better into the skin compared to [L-ascorbic] acid and it is more gentle. So if you have sensitive skin that's the one I recommend. It's so good and it is not sticky on the skin at all."

"I discovered this sunscreen when I was doing a deep dive looking for sunscreens with one particular ingredient, and this one was way better than the others. I have been using it constantly since I discovered it. It has the best form of vitamin C that I was looking for, which is the tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate form. A lot of sunscreens I found that have vitamin C in them have other types of inactive forms that are not my top favorite, but this one actually has the THD form, so that was a huge win and a very unique find. It is tinted mineral with 13.3% zinc oxide only, so no chemical filters. It finishes completely sheer on the skin with no white cast. It gives the most normal baseline finish, not glowy or matte looking. It really wears and feels almost like a chemical sunscreen, which is elegant, but it is not tacky or sliding off my skin. You can easily put makeup right over this. It contains vitamin C and resveratrol, which are antioxidants that scavenge free radicals from UV damage and environmental stressors and prevent those free radicals from breaking down your collagen. On most days this is the only thing that is on my skin, with a little eye makeup and lipstick."

"This is SPF 30, fragrance free, and has a tint to help hide that white cast. It still isn't entirely invisible on darker skin though."

"This is the nicest zinc oxide product I've ever tried. Zinc oxide is so annoying to use in sunscreens because basically zinc oxide doesn't absorb UV very well, so you need to put a lot of it into a product to get a decent SPF. But zinc oxide is an inorganic mineral, which means it's basically like powdered clay or ground-up rock. This one is tinted a little bit to try to hide that white cast, and it works really well on my skin. It did take a minute or two to settle, and when I first put it on I was kind of worried, but yeah, this one is pretty unnoticeable on my face. I did take a photo where I wiped the sunscreen off half my face and I couldn't see the difference."

    What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

    Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

    Sunscreen filters

Sun protection is the best evidenced way to slow visible ageing, and the filters are what does the work. Mineral and chemical filters both protect when a product is applied thickly enough and often enough, which is where most people fall short rather than on the choice of filter.

    Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
