What the gurus are saying

Gurus split on whether 10% niacinamide is necessary. Supporters praise the lightweight formula, easy layering, and compatibility with retinoids and other actives. The key dispute centers on efficacy: skeptics argue clinical studies support 5% niacinamide as sufficient for skin benefits, and that 10% offers no additional brightening or barrier support, only increased irritation risk. The product is considered well-formulated and tolerable, but the higher concentration lacks scientific justification.

"This is a concentrated booster designed to mix into your moisturizer or apply alone if you have really, really tolerant skin. It targets uneven skin tone, enlarged pores, dullness. It has a really lightweight formula. It adds flexibility to any routine. It layers easily with other actives. It really pairs well with retinoids, especially if you're going to add it to a moisturizer. It pairs well with antioxidants. So it's a great option for either morning or evening routine. The key ingredients are the niacinamide 10%, licorice root extract, and panthenol."

"Anything over 5% niacinamide has never really been studied and really never been shown to have benefit. All the studies that show niacinamide is great for skin tone, for brightening, for collagen support, for barrier support, all these different things niacinamide does, has been shown to be beneficial at the 5% concentration or less. So when you see a 10% niacinamide, you're like, do I really need 10%? It's double what the recommended amount is. The more you have of anything, the more likely you are to get irritation. It's not like the more of things the better it is. Sometimes less is more. Studies show 5% is sufficient for pretty much all your clinical endpoints. Between 10 and 15%, you're probably going to tolerate it, not that it's more effective, but the tolerability perhaps isn't terrible. But 10% is more than enough than what you need."
