What the gurus are saying

The experts who reviewed these palettes found the price tag steep for what's inside, especially as the brand has moved toward repetitive shade stories across releases. One concern that surfaced is a shift in quality feel that some noticed, making the premium cost harder to justify. Those drawn to Pat McGrath's aesthetic may still find a palette worth the investment, but those already owning several from the line may spot too much overlap to warrant another.

"I probably got a couple of Pat McGrath Labs eyeshadow palettes, the smaller ones because the big ones were like $200 maybe. They're very expensive and I'm not that great with eyeshadow. So, I'm not going to spend a whole ton on eyeshadow because I'm not very good at it."

"The quality of the eyeshadows did seem to change slightly to a point where I was like, oh, I don't know what's really happening here. I remember buying one eyeshadow palette that was like a bigger version. And everyone seemed to love it. And I was like, no, this feels different. It doesn't feel right. There's something off about the quads. And then the releases came along, Bridgerton, all this other stuff, the other motherships. And it just seemed to give us this same shade of pinky nude, reddy pinky nude. It was almost like that was happening with the eyeshadow. And you were paying quite a hefty price for a cardboard palette."

"They're very pricey considering the choice of what you get. Some people may not be happy or see any difference in some of the palettes themselves. I know that now, more often than not, when I do see a new launch for a Pat McGrath palette, they look very samey. There's a lot of similarities between all the palettes. I don't really want to buy anything because everything looks the same as what they released last year, or perhaps a launch looks very similar to what I already have from the brand. This was a brand that kind of started out very exciting and they delivered, but I would like to be excited by the brand again, which I'm not really."
