What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise PanOxyl as an effective, affordable acne wash that targets bacteria without building resistance, making it safe for long-term use. The main concern across reviews is drying and potential irritation, with dermatologists recommending lower percentages (4-5%) for sensitive skin and emphasizing thorough rinsing to prevent fabric bleaching. The wash form is preferred over leave-on products for this reason.

"I decided to pick up Panoxyl which is 4%, so just bringing it down that 1% made a big difference."

"Panoxyl can use on your face at night several times a week. It's very similar to Polish Choice but it's much cheaper and it comes for 12 bucks."

"PanOxyl is an acne wash that I have been prescribing for years and it's wonderful for people who have facial acne but it can also be brought onto the body and into the groin area. Benzoyl peroxide works by not only destroying bacteria but it also can help unclog your pores. Another benefit of using an antimicrobial wash is that bacteria on the skin are what cause odor in that area so if you struggle with body odor and you feel like it might be emanating from your groin area maybe a benzoyl peroxide wash is right for you."

"If you suffer from inflammatory acne so you have those red bumps your best second cleanser is going to be something with benzoyl peroxide in it the most popular brand here is Panoxyl it comes in 5 and 10%. If your skin is more on the sensitive side I would opt for lower percentage such as 4 or 5%. Let the cleanser sit on the skin rub it in really good and then rinse it off. Pro tip with the benzoyl peroxide cleanser if you don't rinse your benzoyl peroxide cleanser off very well it will bleach your towels and if you don't rinse it off in the shower it will bleach whatever you step on afterwards."

"Panoxyl was still inexpensive, that was like $10."

"Benzoyl peroxide is an acne fighting ingredient and one of the ways in which it works to help control acne breakouts is it targets that annoying little bacteria Cutibacterium acne. One of the reasons I love it so much is that in contrast to oral antibiotics which can reduce the bacteria or topical antibiotics which can reduce the bacteria, the bacteria do not become resistant to benzoyl peroxide, so it's safe to use long term. We don't have to worry about the bacteria on your skin becoming resistant to it. The main side effect of benzoyl peroxide is that it can be very drying, it can be irritating, and if you choose to use a product that you leave on the skin it can bleach fabrics. It will bleach fabrics. For that reason I personally am a fan of the wash forms where you lather the benzoyl peroxide in the shower."
