What the gurus are saying

This serum's fragrance and alcohol in non-airless packaging are major flaws. While it contains a solid vitamin C form (sodium ascorbate phosphate), reviewers found these volatile components degrade and oxidize over time in standard packaging. The verdict: it needs complete reformulation and new packaging.

"So the positives are it's got sodium ascorbate phosphate which is great. The downside, which is a really big downside, is that it's got fragrance, alcohol, citrol, lemonene, linoleol, not in an airless pump. So this product, the truth is it's a disaster. It needs to be completely reformulated. New packaging. This is a no."

"The first video I did on Ole Henriksen was about the Truth Serum, and I talked about how I wasn't a fan of the fragrant components that were utilized in the serum."

What the evidence says.

Independent of what the gurus think, this is what the published research supports about the main active ingredients here.

Vitamin C

Topical vitamin C is an antioxidant with reasonable evidence for dullness and uneven tone. It breaks down in light and air, so how a product is formulated and packaged matters as much as the percentage on the front.

Humectants and emollients

Ingredients like these draw water into the surface layers and slow how fast it leaves. The evidence is for comfort, softness and hydration rather than for changing the structure of the skin.

Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant, and it is often in a formula to keep the other ingredients stable rather than as the active itself. It pairs well with vitamin C, though on its own the evidence for visible change is limited.
