"Oil of Olay was the anti-aging product that everyone's mom and nan had on their dressing table. It was pink, very heavily perfumed and promised to smooth away fine lines and wrinkles. [...] But here's the thing, it never actually reversed aging. As we know, skincare can't do that. The adverts also kind of tip-toed around the term anti-aging. It was more talking about replenishing dry skin, making it more moisturized, therefore in turn more youthful looking. When you [...] look at the ingredients, it was basically a nicely formulated moisturizer. We're talking water, glycerin, mineral oil, petroleum, cetyl alcohol, dimethicone, all of those old school moisturizers. [...] Whilst none of that is exciting by today's standards, [...] they did do something back then. They made your skin feel instantly soft, smoother, and plumper. [...] It didn't lift, it didn't firm, it didn't rebuild collagen, and they didn't claim to back then really, but it gave the illusion of younger, healthier skin."
