What the gurus are saying

This shampoo hydrates and softens hair without heaviness, and its patented bond molecule works to repair damage that gurus say becomes noticeable with regular use. Panthenol and glycerin support scalp moisture and skin barrier health. However, one dermatologist found it performed no better than a drugstore alternative, so results may vary depending on your hair's starting point and what you compare it to.

"My first pick in the splurge category is the Olaplex No. 4 Bond Maintenance Shampoo. This one hydrates beautifully and softens without weighing your hair down. Their key ingredient is this long molecule bis aminopropyl diglycol daliate which is their patented bond repair technology. It also has panthenol which I've been loving recently for skin barrier repair. So it helps with repair of your scalp skin barrier. Glycerin which is a great humectant helping your scalp hold on to moisture. I also really just truly love the way it smells and it makes my hair feel less damaged after I use this Olaplex shampoo."

"This is the bond repair shampoo. They have the bond repair line. I've used all of the Olaplex Bond Repair products. It's pretty much what my hair stylist uses on my hair every single time she washes and conditions. I think it's a really good basic go-to shampoo, pretty much my go-to shampoo if I'm not using my K18 one. Bond repair is really great in general if you're dying your hair. I don't have a ton to say about it because a shampoo isn't one of those things where you use it and you're like oh my god, but I trust them mostly because Sarah, who does my hair color, always uses Olaplex, and bonds are important for your hair."

"In 2018 they launched their number three hair perfector number four bond maintenance shampoo and number five bond maintenance conditioner this finally allowed fans of the brand to get the bond building effects of Olaplex without having to go to a salon. When I worked in a salon we were an Olaplex salon we actually would not bleach hair or touch damaged hair without using Olaplex it became a must-have because of how effective these in salon versions were people loved it they were buying it out of the salon."

"I tried the Olaplex shampoo and while I liked it, I really didn't find that my hair was any different in comparison to using that Pantene shampoo."
