What the gurus are saying

The fragrance in this essence is a major barrier for sensitive skin and fragrance-averse people. Multiple reviewers found the rose geranium oil and added fragrant compounds (geraniol and citronel) caused itching, lingering headaches, and an old-fashioned floral scent that overpowered the otherwise hydrating and brightening benefits. If you're sensitive to essential oils or prefer unscented products, this is worth skipping; those unbothered by strong fragrance may find the hydration worthwhile.

"It's non-comedogenic and it's hydrating, so these are all plus points. But the major downside of this is they've put in pelonium gravolon's oil. Plus, they've added geranial plus citronanelloo. These are all fragrances. These are all disasters. Especially for everyday, this is a big big mistake for us. Please avoid this product."

"On top there's a little bit of moisture and almost a kiss of richness that feels a little slippery, almost like an oil, which I wasn't expecting because there's no oil content here, but it does have a little bit of an oil slip as it absorbs into the skin, a little bit of moisture, and it does leave a little bit of a shine on top of the skin. I do have sensitive skin and I am sensitive to the essential oils and the fragrant compounds present within this formula. They do make me itchy, and this product is no exception. It made me itchy. The essential oil that they use here is rose geranium oil, and that's really the forward scent that you're getting. It's a very floral, rose-based type of smell, but it's just not for me. I don't really particularly enjoy it. It doesn't feel very sophisticated or interesting to me at all, quite honestly."

"This was so hydrating. It was so brightening. It was so soothing in some ways as well. But I'll be honest, I dreaded using this. Absolutely dreaded it, because that smell just lingers. If I use it in the evening, I would get a headache. Like, it's such a strong smell. It's unfortunate. The added fragrance, which is geraniol and citronel, I don't enjoy. I don't like. My skin doesn't like it. I don't enjoy the smell. Yeah, it's very old fashioned. Unfortunately for this, the smell kind of lingers. If you don't mind fragrance, if you don't mind that very old fashioned, almost floral aromatherapy kind of oil smell, you could probably really enjoy this if your skin doesn't mind it. But for me, I just cannot get over the smell."
