What the gurus are saying
Microcurrent shows visible but temporary tightening and de-puffing when used consistently, though experts split on whether the payoff justifies the commitment. The core challenge: results vanish if you stop using it, and most people struggle to maintain a 5-20 minute daily or near-daily routine long-term. Some dermatologists praise the muscle-stimulation effect and ATP boost, while others flag sparse research and note it may backfire on the upper face by potentially weakening Botox or sharpening wrinkles. Those who do stick with it report modest but real improvements; those who don't quickly abandon it.

"I still have not seen good studies on microcurrent to date. The at-home and in the office don't really have that much good data and it's still unclear how these work. There are some studies showing it can increase ATP, but we don't know if that's good or bad for our skin. Another theory is it can stimulate muscle contraction, which is the opposite of how Botox works, so using it on the upper face could make your Botox wear off faster or make your wrinkles more pronounced. Really it's only useful on the lower face. I'm still looking for studies on microcurrent but they're quite sparse, so it's not a technology that I currently recommend."
"The NuFace Trinity and the Zip Halo are my two favorite microcurrent devices, the ones I think win overall when it comes to at home microcurrent devices. I love the NuFace Trinity for beginners, those who just want a proven workhorse. If I had to recommend a microcurrent device to the average person, NuFace would definitely be one of my top picks. It has the longest track record in the category, it's FDA cleared, it's easy to use, and there are years of real world experience behind it. It's a device that I recommend most often because it's simple, it's reliable, it just works. NuFace wins on simplicity and track record, and it also comes in a mini."

"A subscriber said they used their New Face for a year and didn't see that it did anything. Microcurrent, which is what New Face uses, is meant to stimulate muscle tone and contraction to induce lift over time. But when the face ages, it's not really a muscle issue. It's all the other tissues in the face loosening and descending, which is probably why most people find New Face results to be subtle, if present at all."

Skincare Trends That Need to STOP | Dr. Sam Ellis
"When used consistently you can see small bits of tightening and reshaping of the face, however you need to use them incredibly consistently and continuously to maintain those results. If you buy a multi-hundred dollar device, will you actually do it for 15 or 20 minutes every day? Will you keep up with it? How long do you intend to do this? If you're like yeah I've got 30 minutes for my routine every night, this is really important to me, I'm going to stick with this, go for it. But in terms of all the things that could be helping your skin or getting you the results you want, that's not going to move the needle the same way an in-office treatment would."

"I love my red light mask, and I'll speak positively about NuFACE. In my opinion it gives your skin a glow, makes you look like you got a good night's sleep, and makes you look more radiant, but that's after using it quite a lot. If you find that to be a chore, you might not find that trade off worth it, and that's not even counting the cost. I do recommend it, but only if you're actually going to use it."
"For microcurrent I started with the NuFace that I actually had for longer than the LED mask, but never used. It took me seeing the results of the face mask to finally commit to using that one as well. I compared NuFace and ZIIP in a previous video, but to be honest don't think they are vastly different in effects. In the end it comes down to which one you prefer aesthetics-wise and which programs fit better in your routine."

LED and microcurrent - my 1 year BEFORE and AFTER Update | Doctors Review
"I already owned a NuFACE, but never managed to stick to it, so I wasn't able to judge any results. I later introduced it properly as a microcurrent device (288 euros). While I still use microcurrent, I switched to the ZIIP GX, and the reason why I switched from one to the other is not based on the results I got, but solely on things like weight, ease of use and look. I switched because I was in the privileged position that I was sent the ZIIP and had both of them at home, not because I wasn't satisfied with the first one."
I Used Skincare Devices for 4 Years: Here's What I'd Actually Buy Again | Doctor Anne
"The NuFACE is a microcurrent device I had first, but I replaced it after about 1.5 years with the ZIIP. I think both the NuFACE and the ZIIP are really nice and I don't see them differ much in terms of the results I get; it's just that I like the sleek design of the ZIIP more."
"I used to use the NuFace Trinity I still have it I just don't use it anymore because I think this is a lot better the results last longer with this in between treatments and this is a lot smaller lighter and more compact it's also quicker to use as well."

"When you first start using this you want to use this daily and then once you've been doing that daily for quite a while then you can drop it down and just do a few times per week as maintenance. This is basically very similar to the NuFACE microcurrent device that I used to talk about all the time on my channel. I like this better and I think this performs a lot better as well from my experience with the two. This is smaller, it's not as heavy, it's more compact, you can easily travel with this, and it doesn't take as long to use this one as well. This one is a quicker treatment and I just really love the lift and how your face looks contoured after the treatment has been completed. This is also a device that I feel keeps the results going longer. After you've done your treatment, I feel like the results last for about a day or so and then of course you would have to use it again to keep the results going. This is something that you have to be consistent with, especially at the beginning, but then once you get using it for a good length of time, then two to three times per week really is sufficient enough. It really gives that nice lift to the skin and your skin just looks overall more rejuvenated. This is microcurrent, so it's like giving your facial muscles a little workout. It stimulates blood flow as well. You have to use this with a conducting gel, no differently than the NuFACE. You put the gel all over your face, you turn this on and then..."

"If you have a lot of these modalities, you know, microcurrent, microneedling, red light therapy, if you have a lot of those and you have a microcurrent device already like a NuFACE or like one of these and you don't have something else on this list, save your money and wait for that device to break. A NuFACE is still a great device. I used it for a long time. I'm energizing the skin right, I'm causing a little stimulation in the mitochondria of the cell, producing ATP, which is the energy of the skin. Our skin gets lazy as we get older, it just does. Cell turnover slows down, which is why we need retinoids, which is why we need microneedling, which is why we need to trick the body into producing collagen and elastin."

"If you already have like a NuFACE or something like that don't waste your money, wait for that sucker to break. I had a NuFACE for years until it broke. It's about the modalities and it's about energizing that skin and putting the effort into creating that wave of collagen."

"With the NuFACE Trinity, you're using a press and hold, so all you can do with this device is push up and press and hold. You're going to get a better result with other devices because those are what they use in the office. But another reason why I like this device is because you can tell when you have conductivity. You see this line blinking, that shows that I don't have conductivity, so either the device isn't on my skin or I don't have enough conductive gel. So it lets you know if you're using other creams, are you getting true conductivity, because you can't really feel anything with this."
"I love that it's technology that actually works. It's microcurrents that help to stimulate your skin, help firm and tighten the skin. There's a lot of benefits that come from regular use and it helps with lymphatic drainage as well so you look less puffy. It's just a great product overall. Definitely not cheap, but one of the very few skincare tools that are pricey that I'm like yeah, that's worth it. It does make a difference. There's some, I was watching back and I was like I can tell I really went hard on it that day. The cheekbones are cheekboning, we're good."
"I've never had really good luck with this brand because most of the things I've had from them, the first one would charge after it was dead, same thing with their dermaplaner. I went through like three of those through QVC. The NuFACE Trinity, this one required too much commitment from me. You really need to do it every day, usually every morning. It's radio frequency so you smooth it over your skin and the electrodes stimulate your nerves. The results on this were so short lived and not long lasting. It really requires you to use it every day and I just couldn't do it. I can do something a couple times a week but I can't sit there for 10 minutes a day doing this."

"I love the NuFACE Trinity Facial Toning Device. I think it's great. It's super fast, it only takes me 20 seconds in the morning because I only do it in a couple of spots. I'm still using it and I'm still seeing great results from it. My two primary age spots have significantly reduced and I think the biggest surprise was I didn't know the scarring was going to go down, the coloring which was just amazing. So I do it on my nose, on my forehead from my scars from my car accident. I love it and yes I still use it."
"I think we definitely still need more literature on the true efficacy and as far as comparing LED devices to microcurrent I definitely feel there's more evidence in LED light devices. The other thing too is you have to use almost like a lubricant, a gel ideally that is from the same company so that works the best. This is something that I would use intermittently really kind of before a big event so that way my skin just looks tighter, looks more lifted and most importantly helps to depuff. As far as the actual time, if you're wanting to use that as your device you have to use it I believe like 5 minutes so it's definitely much shorter, and then you have to use it I think like 5 to 6 days a week for about 4 to 6 weeks before you kind of jump into the maintenance. So overall the time commit I think is probably very similar, it's just that I don't personally have the time to every day or at least five out of the seven days a week to use a device 5 minutes on my face. So for me personally I much rather invest in the LED mask that has more evidence and it's also just a little bit more friendly for me with my schedule."
"Have you heard of the new face device or maybe you've heard of the foreo bear well these are microcurrent devices that use a very small electrical charge to stimulate the smooth muscles under your skin to lift and tighten up"
"I've been highly skeptical of NuFace since the start of my channel because the ideas behind it just don't add up physiologically, but I decided to actually try it for two months to see for myself. I used it once a day, five days a week, with the gel primer, on my neck, jawline, mid face and forehead. I did notice an immediate, subtle improvement right after using it, like less morning puffiness and slightly better facial contour and under eye tightness, but it was very very subtle and the following morning my face looked exactly the same as it did before I ever used it, so it was not long lasting and not drastic whatsoever. After using it consistently for two months I don't see any sustained difference in the contours of my face, and looking back at photographs from before I started, I honestly see no difference. There is no evidence to support that microcurrent boosts ATP, collagen or elastin, or that it enhances penetration of skin care products, and atrophy of the facial muscles isn't really a major driving force in the aging face anyway, so targeting the muscle doesn't make logical sense to me as an anti-aging strategy. It's not inexpensive at 339 dollars, and for that price you have to keep using it consistently just to maintain very temporary, very subtle results. In my opinion the microcurrent thing is a bit of a hoax because there's just no data to support it for any aesthetic purpose, and there are better technologies out there that actually have some science behind them. I honestly do not see this device as being worth your money."

"I saw a subtle plumping effect that was very short-lived. I didn't get much in the realm of tightening. When you use this it does kind of give a tingly sensation, especially around the forehead, almost like an electric shock sensation. It's not unbearable, but if you're sensitive you may not care for that. To me this is overhyped, but I do think a lot of people find it beneficial for skin tightening. They do see a sustained improvement throughout the day. It depends overall on the amount of laxity that you have. Know that this is unlikely, unless you're using the one with the red light, it's unlikely that it's actually changing much of your collagen. It really mostly works by stimulating underlying muscles. It's only going to work if you use it, and I found this of all the devices I have tried to be one of the most laborious, and I did not stick with it."
10 WAYS TO TIGHTEN LOOSE SAGGY SKIN | Dermatologist
"NuFace is a microcurrent device that stimulates the muscles underneath the skin and when those muscles are stimulated they may swell up a bit temporarily. So when I used this device I did notice a subtle plumping firming effect of my skin but it was short-lived by the end of the day it was kind of gone. It is a device that a lot of people do see results with but it's only going to be as good as you are consistently using it. There's not much in the way of research backing the claims that it makes but a lot of people find it's beneficial. In my experience using it I found that it was kind of like a great way to tone the face just to kind of give a more contoured makeup look but I would not hang my hat on it reversing laxity."

"My favorite is the NuFACE Trinity. The way this works is that it increases ATP in the skin, which is your skin's energy currency. Skin that has more energy, that's more energized can do more. It can make more collagen. It can make more elastin. It can fight off the everyday stressors that our skin comes in contact with better. And it really helps to give me a temporary lifting and firming of my skin. I use the NuFACE Trinity every other morning and I alternate it with my red light mask."

So you can get a red light device for this or you can get another head that has little prongs that really, really helps with the hooded eyes called the ELE attachment."
"I've been using the NuFACE Trinity for years and years now, still do use it and still love it. My favorite thing to use with it is the NuFACE gel, which helps the device glide along my face and also keeps it from giving me any shocks or tingles so that it's a perfectly comfortable treatment. It is a little messy to do, so there are times when I kind of get tired of doing it and take a week off here or there, but overall I still love it."

"I'm really into my skin care devices and I absolutely love the NuFACE Trinity. I've been using it for about 10 or 12 years now. I did a test on this way back in the day and I really was amazed at how it just lifted my skin. It's very subtle, but it does do something for your skin. Basically you're giving your skin a 10-minute massage with microcurrent, which is electricity that runs between these two balls and it shoots the electricity into your skin. It helps your skin produce more ATP, which is your skin's energy currency, and skin that has more energy can do more. Skin that's been hanging around on your body for 50, 60 years is tired and it's not making as much collagen and elastin as it used to, and the more tired your skin is the more tired your skin looks. It just looks better when I use this than when I don't. This is the Trinity, which is the more expensive model because the heads pop off and you can get different heads to put on here."

Winter Anti-Aging Skincare Routine Update! Over 40, 50, 60+
"This is shooting microcurrent into your skin and that current matches the electrical current that your skin uses and so it really helps your skin to produce more ATP which then if it has more energy presumably it can then produce more collagen. This is a treatment that I do every other day I love this. I love this new model because it has this 25% extra boost to it and I find that that really helps. What I like this best for is I find that it really helps to lift my face it helps to sculpt my jaw it helps to sculpt my cheeks it helps to lift my eyebrows and just make everything look more lifted. You could do it at night if you have more time at night it doesn't really matter."
Anti-Aging MORNING Skincare Routine | Over 60 | WINTER 2025
"The device I use alternating mornings with the Omnilux mask is the NuFACE Trinity. This is a microcurrent device, so those are two completely different technologies. The microcurrent in this matches the microcurrent, the electricity in your skin, and it helps your skin to produce more ATP, that energy that we were talking about before, that feeds the mitochondria in your skin and helps your skin do more so it can pump out more collagen, more elastin, more ceramides, more hyaluronic acid, more everything. But on the surface it also helps to lift and firm your skin. So if you have hooded eyes that are sagging, or if you have sagging jawline or sagging nasolabial folds, or you know want to raise your cheeks, doing this treatment can definitely help with those things. Now that part of the treatment is much more of a temporary effect. It lasts for anywhere from a half a day to a couple of days depending on how often you do this. It does require conducting gel."

"I love this Trinity. I do use the mini when I travel sometimes but this is my at home version and I love it that it has this booster button so you get 25% more power with the microcurrent. This is the device that I've used the longest. I've been using this for about eight or nine years now and I love it. The microcurrent that they use matches the energy currency of your skin, the ATP, and so it helps your skin to produce more energy and skin that's more energized can generate more collagen, it can generate more elastin, it can generate more hyaluronic acid, all the things that you need in your skin to keep it younger looking. Plus the massage that you're giving your face really helps to uplift your skin. I've noticed the biggest difference in my cheeks and in my eyelids when I do it. It really helps with the hooded eyes. It also helps to bring more blood flow to the skin and more blood flow brings more nutrients to the skin that can again help it to do all the things that it needs to do to look and act younger. So this is one of my favorites. I use it all the time."

All-Time BEST At-Home Anti-Aging Devices That Actually WORK!
"The NuFace is an FDA cleared device that uses microcurrent to firm and lift the skin. I've been using the NuFace for about eight years now and I use it consistently and I love it. This is the thing that gives me like a little bit of a lift for my hooded eyes, a little bit of a lift in my cheeks, a little bit of a lift in my jaw, and also kind of smooths out my skin a bit. The heads pop off so you can put on different heads to do different types of treatments. It's safe for all skin types and it's easy to use. Best results are achieved by using it minimum five minutes a day, five times a week for six weeks, then after that you can go into maintenance mode and use it less often or as you see fit. This is a temporary treatment—it's not going to be something that generates collagen in your skin. However, I continue to use it because I see the changes in my skin. They're immediate after I've used it, and now that I've been using it for so long they are fairly immediate. There is nothing that gives me that immediate lift of my hooded eyes or of my cheek like the NuFace does when I use it. To use any microcurrent device you do have to use a conducting gel, you have to put on a fairly thick layer of conducting gel, and you have to purchase some sort of conducting gel. The gel is an inconvenience but it never hurts to use it. This is an active treatment so you need to be rubbing this somewhere on your face for a good 10 minutes every time you're going to use it. You do have to be aware and keep it away from your thyroid. If you're looking for spot lifting and firming, then I would go with the NuFace because you can just do targeted areas—you can work on your jaw, you can work on your cheeks, or you can work on your eyes with different treatments."

It's supposed to help with collagen production but it's not really proven that it does. This is more of a temporary treatment, so you just use a conducting gel and glide it over your face. I think it makes a big difference, especially with my hooded eyes, and I feel like it makes my cheeks pop."

"I have the new Face Trinity. I have been using the new Face Trinity way way longer than the bear. The main difference between them is the amount of time that it takes to do a treatment. This guy is more of a very slow slow glide on your face, it has a five second timer for each glide and so the treatment tends to be about 10 to 15 minutes with the bear."

"If you are concerned with your eye area, the NuFace or microcurrent device is one of the best things that you can do for your eye area. It makes my skin just act a little bit younger, a little bit less saggy, a little bit firmer. I do it every other day and I alternate it with my Omnilux mask. I find that it gives me a nice subtle lift of the brows and it gives my cheeks a nice lift. I don't know, I just don't feel like my face looks the same if I slack off on this for like a couple of weeks."

"I've been using microcurrent for about five or seven years now and I love it, I swear by it, and I will never stop using it. I use it every other day. The NuFace is the one that I've been using longest and it's like my tried and true ride or die. It really does help to lift those jowls and lift the cheekbones and lift the hooded eyes."
Best Anti-Aging + Skincare of 2021!
"I've been using the NuFace for a long time. I love this device. The treatment takes about 10 to 15 minutes. I love them both, and I use them to give me that little lift. It firms my skin, it helps it to look younger, it helps it to act younger. So I am still 100% into these."

"I've been using the NuFace a lot longer than the bear. I still prefer the NuFace just because it's my tried and true, it's like my OG microcurrent device, and I've been using it so long and I'm just so used to doing the routine. It's very calm and relaxing, and I love spending that like 10 minutes massaging my face with this. It gives you almost like a mini little facelift."
Anti-Aging Morning Skincare Routine | Over 60 | Fall 2022
"I've been using this for I want to say eight years now of say the 40 or 50 gadgets that I've tried there are three that are still in my skincare routine so you know it says something when I try a gadget I do the before and after I see enough of a result in my skin that I want to stick with it over time this just helps to like lift everything it actually helps to lift my hooded eyes it lifts my cheeks and makes them look plumper it lifts my jaw it's a very subtle effect but I can see the difference and I can especially see the difference if I like stop using this let's say for a couple weeks I'm like oh wow what happened oh my gosh better get back to the NuFace."

"The NuFace Trinity is just an amazing skincare gadget. I showed it in my morning skincare routine where I did half my face and you could see the lift on half my face. It lifted my eyebrow, you can see the difference in my cheek, you can see the difference in my jowls. It is one of the things that I have just stuck with over time. I'd say I've been using this for eight years every other day. Doing something like this that takes about 10 minutes every other day is a slog and you get sick of it, but this is the one thing that I never get sick of because when I see the difference in my face every day I'm like oh yeah you were worth the 10 minutes of doing that."

"NuFace is a radio frequency at-home device and you're supposed to be able to lift your jawline, lift your jowls. It's supposed to firm your skin. It's supposed to be able to work on your crow's feet. It's supposed to give you more firmness in your face and more firmness in the skin of your jaw. I was so psyched about it because we're all looking for something to help us with the saggy jaw and the crow's feet, those are two areas that are notoriously hard to treat. I had really high hopes for this, but unfortunately I didn't enjoy using it. I found it very cumbersome, very time consuming. My arm got tired. But I thought, well, if it's going to give me those results then I'm all for it. I did the before and after pictures and the results just didn't pan out. The results weren't there in the before and after pictures, and I was so bummed about that. I really felt like my face looked maybe not as good as it did in the before pictures."

"It's kind of like a tiny gym for your face. It's going to help with your muscle tone over time. And indirectly, there may be some benefit when it comes to your intrinsic cellular health. You're going to get a short-term lift, a short-term snatched effect. But it's only going to really work if you do this very consistently, aka every single day for a few minutes a day, five times a week or so. But if you are doing this consistently over time, you will maintain your muscle strength and it will help with your skin cellular health. So to be able to incorporate them from the inside out and the outside in is going to help yourself maintain yourself better in the long run."

"Microcurrent devices like the NuFACE Trinity are great only as long as you use it. It's been sitting by my bedstand for years so it has not been great for me. But microcurrent can generate ATP in your cells which can help boost collagen and elastin in the longer run. It's just annoying to do it. It's like going to the gym, it's like another routine that I don't have time for."
How to Reduce Fine Lines & Wrinkles from a Dermatologist! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"I have a microcurrent device, I have a NuFACE Trinity. I don't get the Zip as much as I get the NuFACE Trinity. I think the NuFACE Trinity in my opinion works a little bit better than the Zip. I don't know, there's no like gold standard research comparing the two back to back by an independent third party, but they're microcurrent devices that release ATP from your skin cells to allow your skin to really regenerate and tighten and contract over time and to help with collagen production. Only as good as you're going to use them, and I tell patients: listen, if you've never wanted to get a facelift and you are really gung-ho about making a difference for yourself, buy one, but make sure you use it. You have to use it every day for like at least 20 minutes all over your face, and if you have that in you, go ahead, it can make a difference. But once you stop, you're probably going to go become Cinderella again."
How to Get Rid of Sagging Jowls from a Dermatologist! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"With microcurrent devices like the NuFACE Trinity, if you don't use it you don't see any benefit from it. If you use it you will see benefit from it. When you stop using it you will no longer see any benefit from it. You only get the benefit from it as long as you use it. It has microcurrents, which deliver low-level electrical currents to the muscle and to the tissues of the face which can have several beneficial effects. Number one is muscle stimulation, so it's going to help get that muscle kind of contracted and moving which can help with lymphatic fluid. It's not going to make your muscles bigger. Number two, supposedly it helps to promote collagen production, helping to stimulate the ATP supply, the energy supply of your cells, promoting collagen to get secreted and for your skin to look slightly plumper over time. It improves circulation of course it will because your muscles are slightly getting stimulated and you're physically moving it, kind of like with a roller or a spoon or a massage. And I think the biggest thing is reducing fluid retention or temporary lymphatic drainage, which is what you're probably going to see the most from this in the short-term effect. You'll probably see a more snatched face in the short term when you use this, because you moved lymphatic fluid around, though it will probably come back within an hour."

"This has electrical currents and is producing ATP, so this is going to help stimulate all of your skin, your collagen production, your muscle stimulation, etc. It is a great device. Very honestly, I've had this, and I think I prefer this to the other one, it seems more intuitive."
How to Prevent Skin Thinning & Boost Your Collagen! From a Dermatologist | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"Something else you could do at home is potentially microcurrent like the NuFACE, or the zip. Microcurrents also help generate ATP from the mitochondria to enhance cellular production within your cells and enhance collagen production overall. So that I think is all super helpful."
Dermstore Black Friday Sale Top Picks 2021! | Dr. Shereene Idriss
"NuFace Device is used with an ultrasound conducting gel. I found their hyaluronic acid gel to be extremely tacky, so I just use a one dollar ultrasound gel from Amazon instead. Here's the deal with these devices: if you don't use them, they're not going to work. So if you're going to invest at least three hundred dollars in it, then use it every day. Personally, if you're not going to use it, it's not worth it. Instead, you can go in office and get an Ulthera or Thermage. But if you are dedicated to your face and the craft, then it is worth it. You will have changes over time to help with tightening. I don't love using it because I find it annoying to use the gel, wash my face, and do skincare. I don't care for their gel because I don't care for hyaluronic acid."

"Microcurrent is one of these treatments that are done in medical aesthetic dermatology and aesthetic offices. It works and it gives you this temporary lift and it kind of works out the muscles underneath the skin. I've been using this for years and I absolutely love it. This is very powerful. It does have five different settings. It doesn't overly shock the face. This one from NuFace is wonderful and it's tried and true."

"This can be a fantastic device if you use it right, but it can be hard to do. I really credit the NuFace, I've used it on and off for about two years and I really credit it for helping me kind of get this kind of chisel right here. That's something that right under my cheekbone, I really credit this for helping. And I am trying to kind of lift in my brow area by using this. It does work if you use it regularly, but I sometimes that's my problem, I don't have time to use this regularly. This is not a replacement for a facelift. This is not going to like lift your face. But, is it nice? Yes. Is it expensive? Hell yeah, that's like five hundred dollars."
I Burned My Skin Off Then Fixed It. How To Train Your Face This Year
"I found that I could use the NuFace during the time that my skin was irritated and this was kind of helping heal it back up. The NuFace shoots micro currents of electricity into the skin, it's a microcurrent device, and it's supposed to help increase ATP, adenosine triphosphate, inside of your skin. It stimulates that muscle to help tighten and lift. This is something I continued to do and these two have been best friends in my bathroom. If you're looking for lifting, these have been best friends."
