What the gurus are saying

The experts who reviewed it agree the medication does reduce appetite and help people eat smaller portions, but they differ sharply on whether the benefits justify the risks. One take notes it works best for people who eat out of habit rather than hunger, helping them feel satisfied on less food. However, multiple reviewers flag serious potential side effects, including thyroid cancer detected in animal studies, dangerously low blood sugar that can cause dizziness and confusion, pancreatitis that worsens if present, kidney problems, and vision changes. The gurus caution that those risks may warrant use for serious medical need under a doctor's care, but not for modest weight loss, and stress anyone with thyroid or pancreas issues should avoid it entirely.

"For people who live to eat, this medication is not a great medication because I've had some people tell me you've literally taken away all my joy. It's really for people who are thinking about food, they eat a meal but they're still looking for something else. If I can take away some of that edge and get people to eat the protein, have the fiber, eat smaller portions, feel satisfied, and limit them grabbing chocolate or ice cream after a meal, that's the goal."

"It works but it's not necessarily good for your long term. There's possible thyroid tumors, including cancer, so if you have any sort of thyroid issues, it's something that you do not want to be on. And also, inflammation of the pancreas, pancreatitis, so you have to stop using if you get severe pain. Your changes in vision, low blood sugar, kidney problems, kidney failure. There's a reason why taking those risks are sometimes, when with a doctor, are warranted, but not if you want to lose 20 pounds. That's when you got to pull on the willpower and you got to pull on more natural alternatives where you're not going to get the rebound effect, because you do not want your digestive system slowing down."

"There are some serious things that can happen. Your blood sugar level dropping too low. But also there's a lot of studies that are coming out even on the Ozempic website that thyroid cancer has been detected in mice. It's not something I would want to really kind of mess around with. If you've got thyroid cancer that's in your family you absolutely do not want to be on this. If you have any sort of pancreatitis it will make pancreatitis work worse. There's the thyroid being the big one but also being hypoglycemic so it could drop your blood sugar level low, you could pass out, sweating, slur speech, hunger, confusion. All of this stuff are symptoms of your blood sugar level being too low which you can get from a weight loss shot. Also kidney problems can be an issue as well and you cannot use this when you're pregnant or nursing. There's a lot of bad stuff about it."
