In terms of the 1% over-the-counter versus the 2%, specifically for improving hair thickness and density and helping improve scalp health as it relates to androgenetic alopecia, there's really no data out there comparing the two. In my experience, the 1% can be helpful. A lot of people observe improvement with the 1% that they buy over the counter. If ketoconazole is going to be your ticket item for hair growth and hair density for improving your androgenetic alopecia, I would set very realistic expectations with this. You're probably not going to see a huge difference, to be frank. It's definitely not going to be as effective as if you stick to using minoxidil. Sometimes I feel like I have to use it often and sometimes I feel like I can use it like once a month for just maintenance, but it's really easy to add into your hair care routine. It's technically safe for hair color, but what I tend to do is right before I'm about to get a touch up for my hair color I'll go ahead and use this on my scalp, then I'll go get my hair colored, and then I'll just go ahead and for the rest of the month continue using the different hair products that I already have been using, and then just kind of go through this cycle of using this basically like once a month."

"You do want it to sit on your scalp for a little while. So I like to make sure I focus it on the roots and massage it there and then let it sit for 2 to 3 minutes. The main downside of ketoconazole shampoos is that they tend to be kind of drying. So, I really try to focus it just on my scalp and avoid it really getting washed up in my mid-lengths and ends. Nizoral shampoo is great. It's super affordable. It can help with dandruff and hair thinning. And if you have dandruff and hair thinning, this is the single best thing I think you could have in your routine."
