What the gurus are saying

Gurus consistently praise these patches for their simplicity and effectiveness at reducing redness and swelling overnight. The hydrocolloid formula is highlighted as the appeal, with no active ingredients to complicate skincare routines. A major theme is their role in preventing picking damage, which dermatologists note leads to permanent scarring that is difficult to treat later.

"I like the Neutrogena ones, they're just hydrocolloid, they don't have any active ingredients. Put a pimple patch on clean skin and then do your adapalene gel on your entire face. The pimple patch will help draw the inflammation so when you wake up in the morning the pimple will not be nearly as red and the swelling should go down."

"Pimple patches are everywhere now, they're easy to find. You can find some with salicylic acid, with Tea Tree oil, or just plain hydrocolloid ones, hydrocolloid ones are my favorite. Neutrogena has some really nice ones. Put them on before you go to bed after you wash your face, sleep with them. You will be surprised how that pimple has shrunk overnight."

"Neutrogena makes some pimple patches, those are all fine to use. Those hydrocolloid patches prevent you from picking at them, because I can tell when a patient has been picking. I see this angulated triangular shaped scab on the forehead, on the cheeks. I can tell when you're picking and those are really tough. Those atrophic indented scars that you develop, those are so tough to treat. So even lasers we have a hard time filling in those indented ice pick scars. So if you're using the occasional pimple patch to protect yourself, your finger from picking at that acne lesion, I'm all for it."
