Gurus consistently praise this product as an excellent lightweight hydrator, especially for oily and combination skin types. The water gel texture absorbs quickly, provides noticeable hydration, and works year-round or seasonally depending on skin type. A recurring strength is that fragrance and fragrance-free versions are available. The main caveat is that those with very dry skin may find it better suited for summer use or should consider the thicker gel-cream variant from the line.
"Neutrogena Hydroboost has done a great job with their hydrating cream. They're different ones. Their gel cream, one of my wife's favorites, the water cream, also one of her favorites. My daughter loves those, too, cuz they're so lightweight and hydrating. It's good for those with oily to combination skin. If you want something that's very lightweight, layers well with makeup, layers well with your retinoid or your vitamin C serum. It's packed with hyaluronic acid. So if you want a nice hydrating cream just to seal all that in, go with the Hydro Boost by Neutrogena."

"This is a nice lightweight moisturizer if you have oily skin. It feels weightless and absorbs very quickly. The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel has a fragrance version with blue dye in it, so it looks really pretty. It has a nice familiar smell. I think it's about 20 to 25 bucks for this. This lasts a long time because a small amount goes a long way. I love the texture of the water gel. The water gel definitely absorbs better than the gel cream version. You can use this morning and night."

"The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is a very lightweight product, but provides great hydration to the skin. The water gel is great and it does hydrate, but it has a much lighter texture. I generally like the Hydro Boost even though my skin is a little more normal to dry, but with facial hair, this works really well. It doesn't clump up."

My Favorite Summer Skincare Tips & Products
"I would transition from like heavier creams or ointments to lighter like gel cream creams or lotions so some of my favorite summer moisturizers are the Neutrogena water cream."
"Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is a lightweight moisturizer that really is oil-free, non-comedogenic, and delivers long-lasting hydration without any feeling of heaviness or residue on your skin. It's got a little bit more of a kind of weight to it compared to some others, but it's not heavy and absorbs super quickly. It contains hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and dimethicone. Dimethicone gives it a little bit more of that weight, but it's a great emollient that's not heavy and provides a smooth finish. If you have super oily skin, go with a different option. If you have combination or even combination-dry skin, the Neutrogena one would be a great option. This one comes in a fragrance and non-fragrance formula, so if you have sensitive skin, go with the fragrance-free one."

"This one is so good. If you're looking for a lightweight gel moisturizer that hydrates without heaviness or stickiness, this is it. She just provides so much hydration, really ideal for oily skin and really all skin types, especially during the summer time. I love using this even though I have more like dry combination skin. In the summer time it's great to use in the morning under a sunscreen. It won't peel. There is a fragrance and non-fragrance version, so just make sure you get the right one if you are sensitive to fragrance. Ingredient-wise it's got hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and dimethicone, so it really helps to seal in that moisture barrier without adding any heaviness to your skin."

Drugstore moisturizers for winter $35 or less | Dr. Jenny Liu
"The Neutrogena Hydro Boost is one of my favorite lines from them. This moisturizer is fragrance-free, so great to use on everyone even if you have sensitive skin. It contains a wonderful blend of ingredients including hyaluronic acid, ceramides, natural moisturizing factors, and amino acids that really helps to plump and hydrate the skin and keep your skin hydrated throughout the day. With the water gel texture, it's lightweight and fast-absorbing, and with that I think it's definitely better suited for wintertime for those with more oily and combination skin. It's also non-comedogenic, so definitely suitable for acne-prone skin as well. If you're more like me, that's on the drier side, or live somewhere that's super dry and cold, I think you can definitely try this out for the morning. For me personally in the evening I like something a little bit more creamy, more nourishing, but definitely this formula I loved using in the summertime as my morning and evening moisturizer."
Korean vs Western Skincare | Dr. Jenny Liu
"Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is an amazing product that I feel like can benefit most people. I love the fact that it is a moisturizer that really hydrates your skin without leaving much residue. It is fast absorbing, really great. This is one of my go-to recommendations for those with oily and combination skin to use all year round, morning and evening. And for those with more dry skin like myself, I love this one in the summertime where it's more hot and humid. Ingredient-wise, it's got epidermal lipids that focus on skin barrier health, so ceramides, cholesterol, and fatty acids that we know is really important in helping to build that moisture barrier, along with hyaluronic acid and glycerin, wonderful hydrating ingredients to help keep that skin barrier hydrated and functional. So again, wonderful moisturizer, highly recommend."

It also comes in a fragrance-free version for options for everyone, and comes in a water gel cream that is great if you have more dry skin to use in the morning so it helps to keep your skin hydrated but still feels great and looks wonderful and elegant under sunscreen and makeup."

It's totally oil-free and non-comedogenic so it's not going to clog pores or contribute to any acne. A Dermatologist's Summer Skincare Guide | Top Products Picks
"One of the moisturizers that I like to recommend for summertime is the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel, not the cream or water cream slash gel which is really thick for winter time, but this is the watery gel and this is non-comedogenic, meaning non-pore clogging, and it really goes on like a gel but it provides this great hydration overnight. The main ingredient in the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel is hyaluronic acid, which is a humectant that will help your skin hold on to and retain moisture, and it's just a really great formula that's also really affordable and you can find it at every drugstore."
"Neutrogena reformulated their Hydro Boost line and they added a lot of amino acids, which are nice to see, amino acid skin identical ingredients in this new formula. So they took something super simple that people loved and added some good ingredients to it, and I'm really happy with it. The texture and everything else is nearly the same. They just added some nice ingredients. Typically Neutrogena they don't go out of the way to impress customers like me, but this did impress me. I was pretty happy with it."

Dermatologist-approved Tips For Radiant, Glowing Skin
"I personally have used as well as recommended Neutrogena Hydro Boost moisturizers, and their new Hydro Boost water gel fragrance-free, oh my gosh, I have been trying this out for the past couple of months and I am in love with it. It is so good. It's a fragrance-free super hydrating gel with hyaluronic acid, a dermatologist recommended ingredient that loves water and is a humectant, so it helps with improving the moisture content of skin's dynamic barrier. It also is formulated with natural moisturizing factors including amino acids and electrolytes, which help to restore skin's moisture and complement the skin's natural hydration process. This formula absorbs really quickly into the skin and doesn't leave any sticky or greasy residue. It deeply hydrates, and it offers six times more hydration for a longer lasting healthy radiant glow versus untreated skin."
*BEST* Lightweight Moisturizer For Summer
"The new fragrance-free water gel represents a substantial improvement upon the old formula. It has a variety of amino acids that are part of skin's natural moisturizing factors. They're better because they have ingredients that are helpful for moisturizing as they are naturally present in skin's outermost layer. As natural moisturizing factors they help with hydrating. It's not really solely now a hyaluronic acid focused moisturizer; it has some other things going on that are beneficial."

"The water gel has hyaluronic acid, which is the core of the Hydro Boost line, boosting moisture content through water retention and improving the water content. *NEW* Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Cream And Water Gel Review
"The gel doesn't have the epidermal lipids, it doesn't have ceramide or cholesterol or free fatty acids, but it's still a great option for improving moisture content in the skin which ultimately will help barrier function overall. I love this and I've used it multiple times. I was gifted these by Neutrogena to try out before they even launched, and I have since repurchased them myself because I do think they are really good. I really like to use the water gel in the morning as a facial moisturizer either after cleansing or just wake up and put it on. It's great on the neck and because it absorbs so quickly, it's easy to put my sunscreen on over it."
*NEW* Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Cream And Water Gel Review
"It smooths out little fine lines around the eyes and helps to boost overall radiance through improved moisture content. Good news for those of you who are sensitive to niacinamide and cannot seem to escape it in your skincare: neither of these products has niacinamide. I personally think these are an upgrade in comparison to the old formula. I actually prefer the consistencies and textures of both. They're a little bit more elegant, and you can see that they tweaked it to improve upon not only the ingredient profile and the performance of the product but also the aesthetics and the texture. If you're someone who has really oily skin and you find that many moisturizers just feel too greasy or oily, or you're worried that they might aggravate your acne, try the water gel. That might be a good place to start."

"I really like the water gel. Neutrogena used to have the Hydro Boost extra dry that I loved so much, it was fragrance-free, and they discontinued it, which is a bummer, but in its place they came out with the water cream and the water gel, both of which are fragrance-free, which as a side note Neutrogena has been doing a lot more fragrance-free, which I greatly appreciate. I like this because it has the natural moisturizing factors, whereas the old Hydro Boost gel cream did not. The texture is kind of interesting in comparison to the old Hydro Boost."
*NEW* SKINCARE AT TARGET WE NEED TO DISCUSS 🛍
"Neutrogena has launched a new Moisturizer in their Hydro Boost line that is really good. This new water gel is really nice, it's a lot more lightweight in consistency and gives like a burst of hydration. The hyaluronic acid in it improves moisture content in the top layers of the skin and that's really beneficial for the Skin Barrier because when your skin gets dry the top layers of the skin become dehydrated, you're losing water because you have a barrier issue. Moisturizers really help step in and literally boost the function of your Skin Barrier and get things back on track."

This has ceramide in it, which is a new addition, really nice. It really does offer nice sustained hydration, great around the eyes too. "This Hydro Boost water gel is a great option for mature skin. It's very very light, almost like a serum in consistency. It's free of fragrance. It has urea which is good for softening dry rough skin texture and hydrating the skin, gently exfoliating and smoothing the skin surface. It has amino acids which are important for skin's moisture barrier. Ultimately using a product like this if you have mature skin can help keep the skin barrier turning over a little more efficiently, and that declines with age and that's why you get rough texture as you get older. You get three here for a really good deal."

*BEST* Hyaluronic Acid Gel: Olay Vs Neutrogena
"The water gel is a lot more lightweight, but I love this especially for the summer months because it is a pretty lightweight moisturizer, but does what it's supposed to do. Provides really good hydration and keeps the skin moisturized for a good long while. They claim 48 hours and I believe that. I've been to Neutrogena headquarters and I've done the transepidermal water loss testing on myself with this product and it really does do the trick. It has glycerin, hyaluronic acid, and amino acids, which are part of skin's natural moisturizing factors and help with water retention as well. And it does not have niacinamide, so if you're niacinamide sensitive, this is a good option."
*BEST* Hyaluronic Acid Gel: Olay Vs Neutrogena
"This is an excellent option for a facial moisturizer for the summer months in particular because it is a lot more lightweight. I have never gotten pilling putting sunscreen on over this. The Neutrogena, you feel almost like this little burst of hydration, whereas the Olay is like this cream. It's a gel, but it feels more like a richer cream. The Neutrogena really has this quenching feeling. The water gel comes in a glass jar. They both hydrate. And when your skin has better water content in it, then you get a diminishment of these little fine lines, what I like to call dehydration lines."

"They also have a version of Hydro Boost Water Gel here, hydrating gel cream. This one has fragrance. The new Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel and water cream, they have fragrance-free options. This is probably fine as a moisturizer provided you're not allergic to fragrance. The hyaluronic acid is helpful for hydrating the skin."
Skincare Products I Used Up | 2024 Skincare Empties
"The water gel is a lot more lightweight in consistency compared to the water cream but they have very similar ingredient profiles. They are both free of fragrance and they have natural moisturizing factors like urea for example along with hyaluronic acid, so not only do they help reduce water loss through occlusive ingredients like dimethicone but they really help with hydration by those natural moisturizing factors. Urea is also a really good ingredient in a facial moisturizer, not only is it hydrating but it helps to encourage gentle exfoliation smoothing out the skin surface and ultimately improving barrier function. I really think it takes the moisturizer to another level in terms of performance."
