"Adapalene can come as different gels which we used to prescribe but now it's over the counter in the US at 0.1%, and Neutrogena has also made adapalene as well. Adapalene is known to be very gentle, especially in the 0.1% range. If you're a teenager or young adult dealing with whiteheads, blackheads, inflammatory acne, adapalene is your friend there. It's better for mild acne. When it comes to fine lines and wrinkles, it's not the best, there's maybe a couple of studies that show it works on fine lines and wrinkles, but if you were to compare between a retinol and adapalene and your skincare goals are working on fine lines and wrinkles, I'd go with retinol over adapalene."

"The retinoid will help exfoliate those cells. It will help accelerate the cell turnover and therefore it will help open up the blackheads and the white heads. So I love using adapalene 0.1%. I have used different brands and they all do the same thing and they're similar to prescription tretinoin. The key at treating retinoids is to start slow a few nights a week and you want to be consistent. Also, don't just spot treat. If you tend to get these closed comedones on your forehead, apply your retinoid or your adapalene to your entire forehead. If your skin is really, really dry and really sensitive, start with the retinol sandwich method. By applying a layer of moisturizer underneath and on top of your adapalene, you are minimizing the risk of irritation and dryness that you're probably going to develop with consistent use of adapalene. The trick is to start using it maybe two to three nights a week to make sure you don't cause any irritation because if you use it every night, odds are by the third or fourth night that you're going to be dry, peel, irritated."
