The experts who reviewed Neosporin are unanimous in advising against it. Neomycin, one of its active ingredients, is a common allergen that over 10% of people will develop a sensitivity to in their lifetime, and dermatologists report seeing contact dermatitis from it regularly, sometimes severe enough to mimic a serious infection and lead to unnecessary antibiotics. The antibiotics in Neosporin do not heal wounds any better than plain petroleum jelly, yet they carry real allergy risk and contribute to antibiotic resistance. Plain Vaseline, Aquaphor, or Cetaphil healing ointment accomplish the same moist wound healing without any of these downsides.
